I wonder how its name impacted on its sales. It's a pretty stupid fucking name.

Yeah, it sounds like "pirate monkey ninja cheese pies lol i'm so random" bullshit, but then that's the style of humor in the game so in that sense it certainly tells you something about the thing. The name itself was a recommendation by someone on the forums.

Well to someone on xbox live who is browsing through the games list looking for something to buy "Space Giraffe" would probably give the first impression that the game is about raising a giraffe in space or some shit. I bet the forumer who recommended that name worked on Frogger.

I feel sorry for him in the second quoted article, but the first quoted article. Shut the fuck up. There are a whole range of reasons your game didn't succeed. Name recognition, marketing, hell gameplay. You need all three to have a successfull game and it's your fault that you didn't do all three. I had never even heard of Space Giraffe before this thread.

DEAR TIMOTHY THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. IF I KNOW YOUR GAME AND WHAT IT IS ABOUT I WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO BUY IT. LOVE BLAKE.

I can understand why the reviewers scored no achievements and then gave it 2/10.
I downloaded the demo, tried it for 5 seconds, then promptly uninstalled it before I died of an epileptic seizure. I'm a big fan of shooters, and rhythm/music/etc games, but to me, SG sucked major ass. I'd rather play a Frogger remake. Seriously.

I would have gotten no achievements either, and also would have gave it a 2/10.
Bottom line: Space Giraffe is fucking shit.

Well, Space Giraffe maintains a higher score average then any Frogger game ever (except Frogger 2, for some reason), so maybe, just maybe, it comes down to opinion. Just saying, I have friends who won't play Super Mario Galaxy because every part of it's presentation offends them, but they still don't go into threads and shit them up because people like it.

I'm pretty sure this is a thread for calling Jeff Minter, the creator and producer of Space Giraffe, a pansy (at least it is if you take the majority of the responses into account). So in a way the Space Giraffe apologists are the ones shitting up the thread.

After watching some gameplay videos, I really don't see what's so bad about it - it looks like a mixture of tempest and rez. It had lots of colors, but they seemed to flow relatively well, like in rez. It didn't look anything as bad as that dumb pokemon episode that actually DID give people seizures. Maybe it will look different when I actually play it.

When did blogs suddenly become equivalent to taking a microphone and WHINING RIGHT IN YOUR EARS because it seems nowadays everyone loves to take offense to what people post in their own little section of the Internet.

It's fine if you don't like the game, but why should the designer behind it not be able to vent his own frustrations? It's not as if he actually posted here saying everyone who bought Frogger and not his awesome creation is a douchebag, he just lamented about it on his own blog.

It's more the fact that he is publicly presenting himself as a whiny ass. I mean, if you're looking for good recognition and a favorable view in the eyes of gamers and producers it's generally not good to blog about how the reviewer sucked and how frogger sucks and how we all "don't get it" and therefore suck. It's kind of like taking out newspaper ads that run insults to your old boss. People read it and go "what the fuck is this guy's problem?"

Except the newspaper is called Jeff Minter Weekly and its subscribers are people who are interested in Jeff Minster's opinions and therefore know the situation.

I loved Jeff's older games, I bought SG recently without playing the demo and just couldn't get in to it. I've tried but as many have said, it makes me feel pretty physically ill (Something a game hasn't in quite a while!), it was a similar feeling to wearing those red and green 3d glasses for too long!

Also, why'd he have to go and slag off frogger? It's still a fantastic game to keep you occupied for upwards of 15 minutes (later stages are punishingly difficult)!

Which is fine and dandy, except many people aren't just slagging him off for disagreeing with him, a lot are acting as if he commited some grievous sin by daring to express it online. Blasting people on the game's forums for not liking it does make him a (bit of a) dick. Expressing frustration, even exaggerated, on a personal blog? Who gives a fuck, I've said lots of shit both here and my personal blog that I'd rethink and rephrase should I actually care to make it an official statement.
Some of the opinions in this thread make it sound that him being a developer means he should forever walk on eggshells about any opinion expressed about the subject online, lest it be used against him by the Grand Council Of Judgement Of Assholery.

Also, I still don't get all the Dyack hate- at this point he would've had to have kicked puppies and eaten babies to warrant some of the bile tossed his way.
