Square-Enix making "Eye of Judgement" type of game for Arcade (no 56k)

Not sure if this is old news or not, but it appears that SE is making an online card battle game that's going to have awesome art. Since the arcade extincted in US, majority of us will never got to play this game in our life time.

Hopefully SE is thoughtful enough to make a PS3 port or a DS port, because it looks like the game require you move the card around, kinda like the Romance of 3 Kingdom card game released for arcade and ported to DS.

I thought you meant Live Arcade when I clicked, would've been amusing to see the 360 fighting back with a card battler of its own :x

Wait... does this use actual, physical, buy-them-seperately, nobody-could-be-that-stupid cards? I do hope so. I'm in a rather sour mood and could use a good laugh.

I don't really understand the point of things like this.

It's like when Nintendo made Pokemon, and then made a card game about Pokemon, and then made a game about the card game about Pokemon.

I thought things like this were already really popular in Japanese Arcades?

This game was probably the best game to ever come out for the GBC. I stand by this statement fully.

    I want more.

They are. Both the machines, and dispensers to purchase the cards from for games like these (there are several already in existence) can be found in most game centers in Japan. Even more widespread are the little kids version, which is some kind of three button deal along with a card scanner, featuring versions for Dragonball Z, Mushiking, and Dino-king.

I saw an awesome game based on this idea while I was in Japan. Picture a soccer/football management game similar to those horse breeding/training/racing games (local arcade as well as a few Dave & Busters have that one). Big TV in the back for the action, little terminals for each player/manager.

Now, here' s the kicker, the Couch/Manager/Player has a pack of sports trading cards and he places his top pick onto his terminal to represent his team on the field. He can bench certain players or swap positions.

I thought that whole setup (though expensive) was pretty sweet. And I don't even like soccer.

So... is this an arcade game, or what?

Yeah, when I was in an arcade in Japan I saw something similar to this. It's not a new idea. It looked damned awesome, as well. Not the same as Eye of Judgement, really. A person would place their cards on the deck, and squads of soldiers would appear on the screen where their card was placed. Then they'd enter a real-time battle with the computer, or another person I believe, and they could move the cards on the deck and the squads associated would retreat, or advance, to wherever they moved the card.

Kind of like issuing orders visually.

I like how the Square Enix logo on the machine is displayed more prominently than the title of the game.

I talked to a guy who is living in Japan and he tells me that the huge multi leveled arcades that they have in Tokyo and other places have all sorts of huge card games like this. He said they have whole floors devoted to arcade machines that consist of you laying cards down on a board table thing and it fights them for you. So perhaps for Japan this sort of thing is not all that new but it's just another company getting in on the action.

Sure makes me want to go to Tokyo though.

Except when you're sitting there playing the game, Lord of Vermilion is going to be right at eye level.
