Legal question!

My friend assault her mom, hit her, and took her car and drove away. I tried to find out where my friend was, but she would not tell me, so I have absolutely no idea.

Her mom assumes that I know where she is, and I have repeatedly told her I do not. She said she will have the police come to my house. That does not worry me, as I do not know.

My question is, can the police force me to text message my friend and find out where she is? I asked once, she wouldn't tell me and I doubt she would again, but can I be forced by law to?

I didn't think so. And since my friend won't tell me where she is, is it illegal for me to continue talking to her? I don't think it is. And nor do I think it's illegal for me not to keep trying to get information about where she is to the police.

I just hope my brain isn't fucked up and givin me wrong information, lol.

It's not illegal for you to continue tring to find out where she is, but if you find out where she is and don't tell the police, I believe that's illegal (Aiding and Abetting, I think)

    [edit] Or possibly Accessory

Yeah, I know if I find out and dont say its illegal, but I have no further plans on trying to find out. She even said she wont tell me to protect my involvement. I just wondering if its illegal for me NOT to try to find out where she is. If THAT would be considered aiding

It wouldn't be aiding & abetting, it would be obstruction of justice or obstructing an investigation. If you were letting her stay at your house, that would be aiding & abetting.

And no, there's nothing illegal about you continuing to talk to her, provided you aren't helping her to flee from the police in any way.

If someone was trying to hide, it would be silly to keep using a cell phone.

You've got nothing to worry about, and your friend did you a favor by keeping you in the dark.

Hope everything turns out all right.
