Treasure Seas Incorporated is a game from Felix Wiesner over at Mausland Entertainment. It’s an Arcade/Adventure game with RPG elements about deep-sea treasure hunting, with the player using a miniature submarine to plumb the depths in search of gold. But Neptune isn’t just handing out gold for free: the depths are full of deadly obstacles such as giant sharks, absolute darkness, and crushing pressure. Who knows what might gaze back at you from the abyss…
If all three of your submarine pilots become lost to the sea, your exploring days are through.
What I found most interesting about this game was its incorporation of Role-Playing elements into the gameplay. As the player, you can use the gold you’ve recovered to outfit your submarine with upgraded equipment, allowing you to gather more gold. These upgrades include improvements of the sub’s air-supply (for staying down longer), pressure-plating (for diving deeper), and propeller (for moving faster).
The more you refit your sub, the more gold you can get. Get enough gold and maybe you’ll earn a spot on the online Hall-of-Fame.
So take one last glance at the surface, and prepare to dive. Good hunting…
As I said I'm still exploring the early part of the game, but it's most definitely addictive. First thing that struck me though was the wonderfully spongebob-esque music
Yeah I had to search for this thread too, and the title fails because it uses "indy" instead of "indie."
I am just starting on my independent/freeware games adventure. I really have to recommend Zombie Smashers X2, which I don't think I've seen mentioned here at all. It's a River City Ransom clone with lots of blood where you beat up zombies, collect coins, and eat food for powerups. At first I was a little disappointed in the art and animation, preferring the stout characters from the original RCR and his own Zombie Smashers X, but once the fighting starts, it all looks pretty good. Almost certainly going to purchase this one.
For you Xbox kids, this is the guy that did The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai. (Sure wish I could play it on PC!)
Old Gregg asked for more indie games, and he shall have them
Rom Check Fail by FARBS
Something of a derivative of Wario Ware. Defeat all the enemies on the screen, regardless of the setting. Not recommended for the more seizure-prone PAers
I give Ainevoltas 2 a half-hearted endorsement. It's a 2d-platformer with RPG elements but the crap writing and shoddy gameplay make it a short term cure for boredom. I suppose the best thing about A2 is the feeling of how great it could be you'll no doubt feel whilst playing it. That said, you could do worse, it's worth a look, albeit a short one.
Hate to bump a dead thread but I've been looking into buying cortex command recently and was wondering if anyone has any input on it? The demo only last six minutes which doesn't give you much time to play around with it.
Also are any more units unlocked if you purchase the thing? The starting selection is pretty bleak.
if you don't mind committing your next 5 years to hair pulling/wall banging stupidness:
In the year 200x on his 15th birthday... a child left home on his dangerous and epic quest to become The Guy! Many years ago, "The Guy" left world and retreat to "Dungeon of Doom". Now "Young Boy" goes to defeat "The Guy" and become "The Guy" with his gun pass handed down by former "Grandfather the Guy". Go find the "8 units". Now become "The Guy".
the reason i kinda stopped updating this thread is because the OP is actually too big and takes forever to change. it keeps warning me about "text limits" etcetcetc
Can someone recommend me a good adventure/exploration game?
Google/OP Check dees:
Knytt
Cave Story
Aquaria
Soldexus
Hehe, unfortunately I've already played all of those, not counting Aquaria as I'm short on money though :P
I'm looking for games that have more of a metroidvania feel to them, I'm currently playing Ainevoltas 2 but I'd really like something more complex, Soldexus and Hasslevania could be perfect were it not for their frustrating difficulty
The game Elona is pretty fun, you can find the Elona thread there and read up about it. Sort of a rougelike/jrpg/whatever and it's pretty funny, with lots of Engrish.

You could give Bunny Must Die a shot. It can be tough to figure the first few puzzles out (game's in Japanese), and the jumping is really stiff, but other than that it's good times.
Looks like I'm going to have to buy Obulis, a formerly-PocketPC physics/puzzle game where all you do is cut ropes to fling colored spheres around and get them in corresponding colored pots. The reason is that I started to play the first level while my wife was watching over my shoulder, and then she screamed "let me play!" and polished off the demo in less than an hour.
It certainly looked fun from where I was standing...
She likes Peggle too; maybe there is something about casual games with bouncing balls.

Soldexus is only really hard during one of the mini-games. The trick here is to keep moving, always timing everything down to a second. There are some hidden upgrades in the walls here and there, so that also helps. It takes a bit of getting used to, but the controls are tight, Spiderman-tight.
And use the charge attack, as it expands the range of your slash. I'm not sure if you start with it, but I think you can get it quite early, maybe after the first boss fight.
Just aim for his feet the whole time. That will destroy his feet and make him stay in place while you shoot him. The sub machine guns might kill faster, but I find the assault rifles give you better jumping control to dodge his poo bullets.
FreeCol
This is an old Sid Meier game from back in the day that has been reworked to work on windows, linux, and mac. Open source and it should tide you over until CivIV: Colonization comes in the fall.
FreeCol is a turn-based strategy game based on the old game Colonization, and similar to Civilization. The objective of the game is to create an independent nation.
You start with only a few colonists defying the stormy seas in their search for new land. Will you guide them on the Colonization of a New World?
Don't let the graphics fool you, this has all the addiction of a real Sid Meier game and will suck you in.
For your own benefit, read the documentation, thoroughly!
How is FreeCol's completeness these days? Can you play a game or two without any glaring balance flaws, crashes, etc.? Was just looking at that last night and got curious about it.

This is an awesome game.
Also,
No, I beat him on the first try.
But he was so godamned awesome. Like when his face was just all scribbles.
Also, I've been screwing around with flowers of error lately. It's a decent twist, good fun.
I like the scoring system, too. Instead of getting points you get letters that complete a poem. Right now I've got:
your life builds a fortress
within it runs the corridors of comfort and safety
to build them you repeat yourself
same places, same actions, same people - the walls of your fortress consist of things you already know
by their safety you lose the errors you need, along with those that would wound you
//////////
Outside your fortress grows a garden called Play
in the garden, you breed errors: the winding paths are there for stumbles, shadows for the sense of unknown, darkness for the visage of death.
losing yourself in the gardens, you throw yourself against failure, succeed to fail anew.

Normally, I hate all flash-based games with a passion, but this is an exception. Actually, I'm pretty much just a sucker for ninja games. Especially ninja games with stealth and grappling hooks.
Just so's you guys know, Assault Droid is the game of the day (Sunday) on gamegiveawayoftheday.com. If you want it, go for it. The download will work for the next 24 hours.
1. It's superb fun
2. It's really elegantly designed: the 4 tools are versatile enough to build a huge variety of crap
3. After you solve a puzzle, you can see other players' solutions, many of which are genius.
give it a try. I haven't enjoyed a Flash game this much since N.

Looks pretty awesome, I'll give it a shot. BSuaJG was awesome and hilarious, and I'm sure this one will be just as good (in a different way).

Cave Story is a free exploration game in the Metroid style. You could also pay for Aquaria.

Neat little game that reminds me of games on the Apple and Spectrum, but with a shot of heroin. It's fast, hard and really fun.
