So tomorrow marks the arcade release date for Tekken6! Last week I went and played the test of T6 and off the back! Graphically, TEKKEN 6 is real CLEAN! Like, I always use to complain about the character design and the models used for Tekken. But this new engine is quite spiffy. Honestly, It’s the best looking 3-D fighter to date.
I only got to play T6 only once because I wanted to see the new characters. So when I got to the arcade. I just watched people play on the 2 the Noir Cabinets, (Which are kinda uncomfortable if you are 6′1 or over.) Simply murder on the knees.
The Japanese response to T6 seems pretty damn good. But not without careful study. With damn near every Japanese player in the Namco Game Center carrying a copy of the Arcadia Magazine with the T6 move list in hand. The shit was serious! It was a new game but the level of noobs at the Test was rather low. So this is how it went down in Shibuya. 2 Noir Cabinets side by side. The best 2 outta 3. Everything was set on default. If you loss, your wait on SNAKE’s WAY was like 10-15 minutes from the front of the game center. At one point the line went you the steps of the game center. Some matches were quick and other were long and entertaining.
Nuances of T6: That rage meter is serious. I lost to J.Chang because of it! Like I knew she was strong ,but damn her forward lunge attack had that extra, “You better get the fuck off me strength!†So, I will definitely be studying up on the rage meter thing. It puts your whole approach in a new light now.
STAGES: They Look fantastic! The High Roller Stage is so awesome with the money billowing out the sky and the 2 rich doods in the background are the definition of pimp. It’s a bit deceptive upon the first glance though. There is no wall on that stage. Now what I was worry about with T6’s stages was the fact that I didn’t want the stage to kill me in T6. You know like those stages in DOA, SSBM, and a couple of other fighters. The stages, as of right now, don’t kill you but they give a tactical advantage. The stage where the floor breaks and you fall down. I saw some dirty-ness that will very well evolve. For Example: Asuka’s slam where she grabs your face and slams you to the ground. When the floor breaks. Both opponents fall but Asuka can start; What look like to be a small juggle combo afterwards. (I hope there is a way to tech that fall.)
New Characters: Design wise, Zafina aka. “Miss Get Low with It.†is interesting. She has the creepy Voldo from Soul Calibur approach. Bob: Mr. FAT ROCKET! Is fast as fuck with a Dragon Punch. That seems to connect after his Kuma like big throw. Bob is very flashy and his moves seem a bit High Risk but he looks fun to play with. Leo: the VF5 rip off guy or should I say rip off gal. LEO is a girl. Honestly, I think Leo is whack, but I think she is going be the favorite of the Chang - Jun players. Then the Japan pick of the test!: Miguel aka. “Mr. d/f+2,1 and yo’ ankles is MINES!†A good mix of Speed, Power, and Size! I didn’t know he was gonna be that big! The Japanese Players were all over Miguel! I wish I would have had the chance to play him myself. His juggles seem to track very well. Also, they take you a good distance across the screen. The Japanese players usually played M in a rush down sense using his d/f+2,1 in mix- ups. But the strange thing is that Miguel has this “laugh.†Where he walks toward you…. I thought it was a taunt but it acts as a stance…. either that or the opponent was just stupid. So to roll up the new characters of T6 Location Test chosen on sheer popularity:
1st: Miguel
2nd: Bob
3rd: Zafina, Leo
All and all, without getting into the finer points of the game play and not diving too deep on the first try. T6 is really Clean! The real abuse however will start on 11/26 but for now. T6 is full of WIN! Damn. I need a PS3!
P.S. (d/f+2,1 = Press: Down and Forward and Right Punch. Then press Left Punch. )

Thumbs up/down?
I personally hated the idea of a forced handicap against the stronger player, but the idea might be different in execution.
Eventhough, the rage meter caused me to take an "L." I don't think that it is a bad thing. It just adds another level of in game thought. It isn't as bad as KOF so I'm O.K. with it now.
It is said that the US should get it January-Feb 2008 with the PS3 version, but this is only rumor.
I wouldn't call it making a fuss. More like giving a heads-ups. Last year 85% of the foreign teams at SBO got creamed. And Japan basically got back at Korea for that ass kicking last year. Ultimately, I would like to see the old Team versus Team Japan events back up. Like I don't play as much as I use to but just being in Japan now and learning "How they play games" has improved my fighting game skills dramatically.
I can't wait for this damn game to hit.
I also heard one of the characters had an infinite bug which they patched over their Arcade Network thing, Tekken.net, within a day.
A day, for an arcade cabinet. Serious business is Namco about Tekken 6 at the moment.
Hell, I can't remember the last time I've been to an arcade!
Seriously? Tekken's (and VF's) are always released in the arcades months before their console releases.
Anyway, I haven't been following Tekken 6 since it was first revealed so I have to ask, has it improved much since then? The general opinion on it back then was that it looked like a slightly improved Tekken 5 and didn't stack up to VF5. And as someone that loves Tekken 5 (so much I bought it on the PS2, PSP and PS3), I was kind of disappointed too.
Regardless, this makes me hopeful for a PS3 release before June 08. Any time after that and I don't know if I'll be able to make time for it, let alone afford it (what with the PS3's lineup next year).
Do you play with Ganryu or Roger Jr.? I really don't believe that there are any joke characters in Tekken. Since the move list are so big and the way people play differs from area to area (IMO) It seems that any character could be a killer based on the users ability.
They bascially closed all the ones where I used to live. BASTARDS!
The rage meter and the break away stages just add to the level of play to me. I'm going to play it today in Shinjuku.... So let me get back to you tomorrow. I kinda expect T6 to be broken off the back but having online F-net updates is the wave of the future.
I was pretty bored with Tekken in America. My friends usually qualify for nationals. So, their level of competion was pretty damn high. I couldn't buy I win. So I ended up going back to MVC2, SMASH, 3rd Strike and Soul Calibur and playing at home more.
But the scene in Japan in different. People go to their local game center (= arcade) to play each other. Arcades are still plentiful here. So people don't have to commute so far. This creates arcade styles. This is where that character ranking comes into play. I've been to gamecenters where I'll fight Steve users all day. Then I'll go across the tracks and then I'll play against Kazuya and the family all day.
The F-Net screens not only play matches in that arcade. They show character ranking, leaderboards, and replay hotmatches all over Japan. So, if you a really good player..... There is a way for others to find you and what gamecenter you frequent.
HOW TO TAKE an "L!": "Pay close attention if you want to get better at any game."
1. Believe that you are going to win.
2. Don't be afraid of the "J-Beasting.": So what if you got hit by 100 hit combo and you only touched him once. Find a counter. Be it a character, a tactic, or just blocking till the cows come home. And most importantly learn from your mistakes.
3. Japanese players' defense is superb at time. (3rd Strike is a good example of this)
4. Japanese players' have somewhat of a robotic offensive scheme with little error. So, every now and then... Throw that monkey wrench into the mix and watch how they react. But don't strecth yourself out to far and get killed.
5. Do the math: So your 7-hit combo that you only land 40% of the time. Always seems to lose to his jab, jab, grab which he pulls off 70% of the time for the same amount of damage.
The joke comment just comes from the general frustration of the character lacking a real offense up till now.
I know what you mean about robotic. A lot of asian players in sydney play the same way, with great defense but robotic offense. It actually works in my favour, since I'm very good at pattern recognition.
Mind you there is a korean steve here who is just random as all hell and does whatever he wants and is really really hard to predict. (not bad random, the good kind if you know what I mean) I like fighting him though, he's good fun.
Ganryu is a beast in DR. He is not a joke.
Just so long online isn't a purchasable add-on. :P
2006/11/26:
There is no delay Tekken 6 is out and today I went down to Joybox in Shinjuku to meet Mixbob and Maxi Millan from Sweden. Eventhough, I usually frequent the South Side of Shinjuku. This was my first time to go to JoyBox. This smoke filled area is in the basement and is about the size of your middle class parent's bedroom with the closet knockout for more space. The majority of the games were about 100yen a game, but honestly I really didn't look. Because I was there to play or should I say learn to play Tekken. Better yet learn how to take an ass whoopin'.
My count today at JoyBox was around 2-15. Which is pretty damn bad. I'm not a Tekken God or anything but they really should change the name of the arcade from "JoyBox" to "HurtBox." The combos were brutal and the skills were out in full force.
Today, I saw 2 characters being played at really high level. Heihachi, played by Maabuu, a Joybox Legend and a very friendly Japanese guy. Bob, played by MixedBob of TekkenZaibatsu.com representing Sweden.
I played Maabuu the majority of the time I was there and he was the cause of at least 88% of my loses. He played a real solid Heihachi with firm grasp of spacing and extraodinary defense. In a nutshell, don't grab him. 75% of the time he would break out of it. The only grab of mine that he didn't break once was the ground throw with Marduk. Once we stopped playing. I asked him what he thought of Tekken 6. He replied, "T6 is a new game and I like it, but this is only the first week. With online updates it could change overnight." This in addition to telling me to get the Arcadia Magazine with the new moves list.
MixedBob's Bob is something to be noted as well. Bob's ridiculous rushdown speed and tricky mix-ups are dangerous. Despite Bob's appearance he is fast. Like Xia fast but with more weight! Like damn near a "TON" more weight. I noticed something during one of Bob's fight though. When he landed the Dragon Punch his opponent floated to the wall and he was able to land 2 jabs on the way down. I'm sure you can prolly add some more or maybe even another Dragon Punch! Either way Bob's is definetly a force to be reckoned with.
If you asked me what did I learn about Tekken 6 today. I would answer:
1. Get the fucking moves list!
2. Be aware of which stages have walls and break away floors.
3. I need to practice how to get up and break more throws to better my defense.
4. Take a small notebook to jot down little bits of Tekken knowledge.
Like, I said before Tekken 6 is the new good looking champ for 3-D fighters and it is looking like my soul reason to buy a PS3 now. If you live in Tokyo or if your just visiting, come on down to the JoyBox to see how the pros do it!
Story wise I don't know yet, but he has a couple of new animations and he can use the shotgun on his back in combos.O_o

Enough with the bragging, I'm pretty excited about T6, even if I don't own (or even plan to buy) a PS3. Hopefully my uncle (who's a Tekken fan) will finally get his kids a PS3 for Christmas.
Hate to break it to you, but any 9 year old can beat the game with any character.
It takes a real prodigy to WIN A NATIONAL-CALIBER TOURNAMENT at around that age. (I think the youngest I've seen was a 14-16 year old who won that kind of tournament before.)
Until you do that, I don't think you're justified in your elitism like I am. 8-)
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/hyperbole
A metaphoric allegory is fine too.
Except there are actually kids that are good at Tekken, so the allusion doesn't work out too well.
Same reason as for any fighting game.
They're really, really, really tough.
And they got Wolverine's healing factor.
That makes absolutely no sense. If I said that I was the "best chess player in the world," the fact that there are probably millions of people better at chess than me doesn't lessen the effect of the hyperbolic statement. By definition it's intentionally a huge exaggeration regardless of what my actual skill level is. Because that's just what it is; a general (and usually wild) declaration used for emphasis and has nothing to do with the reality that there actually are "Tekken" Prodigies.
There's never been ending cinematics for Arcade releases.
Also, Tekken has been pretty good with keeping fan favorite characters:

(Poor Jun and Kunimitsu...)
Holy shit. Those screen-shots following a couple of links after yours are fucking brilliant. Do you know if that's the arcade or the pre-release console version? If that's the arcade, I can't even imagine what the PS3 version will look like.
All these are arcade.

At least we know they're not deviating from their roots...
Whats his status in arcade games? Get used much or not at all?
WHERE'S HWOARANG?!
His name is Bob.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pz50gNpAo0E
Julia's dead
I'm in shock about that. I hate the character, hate hate hate, but that's fucking harsh.
And rubs her tits in her cousins face.
Anyway, disappointed in the lack of Julia, Hwoarang and Devil Jin on that list. Hwoarang and Devil Jin are my best characters...
She better be there.
