Problem with Mass Effect

When you go to start a new game, you can choose to start over with the same character from the last game. My problem is I don't want any characters there anymore. I just want to start fresh and the two characters that are there just annoy the hell out of me. Where do I go to delete these. I've deleted the Mass Effect file from my hard drive. It didn't fix it. Please help!:x
