I have a spare light ball if you need it. All I ask in return is something EVd so I don't have to take half a day raising something from scratch.

All I have to do is beat the last stadium in Battle Revolution and i'll get a free Pikachu holding a Light Ball.
    But thanks for the offer.
Are you looking for another shot at the badge, or will you wait till tomorrow?

Luck just got me into a 5v6 scenario. Not a good start.
And left a guy with 1 HP. Loosin' tonight.
    Lost.
Threw that match when I left my Absol in instead of throwing my Alakazam back, even though either will have no effect. What I need is a stallasaur or a stallterra to giga-drain a guy or two.

Well, it's dissapointing that you fled. assuming it wasn't an accident.
But when your first attack misses, even though it has 95 accuracy, I can certainly understand your frustration.
I feel bad for winning. You have to win eventually Sir Red. It's inevitable.
Use a Gyarados. I hate them.

And supposing it was an accident, it just proves how unlucky I was at that moment.
And what ticks me off the most? I have to wait another 24 hours for something that took less than 5 minutes.

I got a mudkipz with the following IVS:

    22/29/31/18/31/31

The catch? It's a goddamn female. I can't use it, because I will be possibly using three rare TMs on this thing, and having it unable to pass on those TMs just won't fly. Of all the times for me to get a girl...

Oh well, with a little more incest (:winky:) they should toss out a MALE with the right stats, I hope...

Umm, why didnt you just put the TMs on the mudkipz to begin with and breed a whole bunch of them with all those rare moves???

Can't. For some sadistic reason, Gamefreak made stuff like Roar, Avalanche, and Stealth Rock moves that only Marshtomp and/or Swampert can learn - they can't be bred into a mudkipz.

Yeah, the Mudkipz excellent. Apart from having 22 HP instead of 28 or higher, which grants 401 HP max, making it able to survive 4 Seismic Tosses without Leftovers. Well, in case you run into Blissey...

If ever there was an argument for all TMs to be buyable/able to be reused in game, it would be stuff like this. I know its due to Mudkip not being water/ground, but still!

At least its a female with (I presume) the right nature, so it'll be excellent for passing those stellar IVs on.

Stone Edge is not a one-time only TM. You can get more at the battle tower. Sometimes it's better than cloning, though.

I don't like having Toxic on Garchomp. It's a nice surprise, but I barely use it with mine. Also Weezing's there for obvious Earthquake attacks and physical wall support.

Only one more Pokemon to go and my new team shall be ready! Kind of annoying having to burn two hard to get TMs on the team, but one I can breed onto other Pokemon fairly easily. Sadly the second one is now on a female Pokemon. So hopefully I can copy it off of this used Emerald cart I picked up this afternoon. Any tips on the copy trick in Emerald?

Also, this thread has been rather quiet today.

Thats because I am studying for a final tomorrow, and also trying to breed me a mudkipz. Still.

You'd think that with the female I bred earlier, and a male with a 30/31 in HP/DEF/SPD the game wouldn't have such a hard freakin time giving me a mudkipz with a 26+ in HP, DEF, and SP DEF. Apparently you would be mistaken. It seems to relish in giving me a 31 in one or two, and a 0-7 in the others.

Or one with the what looks to be great IVs and the wrong nature. Or a female.

    I just got one that's 30/24/31/26/30/20-26.

    That'll do, mudkipz. That'll do.*

*until one of the IV freaks like Chen or Aggril barges in here and says something about this not being able to outspeed a Blissey or otherwise not being able to perform in some niche situation, and makes me feel bad enough to try to rebreed for the ATK/SPD stats.

Seriously? I had that video running through my head at least half the time I was breeding the little bastards. Mainly because I had the nursery Poketech up, and in it you could see the two mudkipz opening their mouths in a cute, alternating fashion. Mud. Kip. Mud. Kip...

Weeell, once I EV train this guy and wrap up a few odds and ends (namely, gets one more Leftovers and a Focus Punch TM), looks like I'll be ready to take this team out for some battles! Exciting. I'm looking forward to the part where I realize that my careful planning/theory doesn't work at all in actual gameplay scenarios

Hey, now I've got a new video to inflict on my friends. Thanks! Lets see if I can get the same guy to watch that all the way through.. I had him watch that Magikarp vs. Magikarp thing for five minutes before he realized it was looping XD.

Also, I'm not completely IV insane. ...aside from the occasional bout of hidden power madness. Which I may or may not be attempting to inflict on unfortunate squi.. er, jellyfish.. as I type. >.>

One of my ideas for a team (possibly a BT oriented team) calls for a Infernape. I've been avoiding trying to put that team together purely because I REALLY don't want to go about trying to breed for a 70-power HP Ice. Or ANY particular Hidden Power, for that matter.

Maybe I'll just suck it up and give him Earthquake or something.

    Save your game.
Deposit each pokemon in an empty box.
    Save your game.
    Withdraw the pokemon.
    Do not save your game.
Talk to the multi battle lady.
Eventually, before you begin the saving process, you'll notice a little pause where theres no text box on the screen.
    Thats the key.
After the pause the trick is complete. Reset, shut off, whatever.

Theres a little more to the trick than that, but thats the basic outline.

oh, your right. I guess I meant that there are some other minor details.
You can only clone up to 5 at a time. You have to have 2 pokemon that can be entered into the Battle Tower. Lvl 50 or Open Lvl doesn't matter.
    And I guess thats it.
If they haven't done the trick before I could see a person having a few questions. Instead of answering those, I just gave a quick outline.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but it is the Pokémon thread, after all!

I haven't played a Pokémon game since Gold/Silver, but I'm looking to pick up Diamond or Pearl (or both) after I get a DS this Christmas. After reading this thread, it seems like battle strategy has come a long way from the "Dragonite, Hyperbeam!" days of my youth.

My question is this: how steep is the learning curve for all the new techniques? EV training sounds easy enough, but breeding, passive techniques (like Sand Veil), and the slew of new Pokémon are kind of daunting. Will it be difficult to pick all of this up, or will I be back on the competitive scene in no time?

Yeah, I tried to make a nearly all BL/UU team a while back that could compete with OU guys. It worked...OK. Really, really unreliable though - I had to pull off the strategy flawlessly. It seems like you HAVE to use at least a few OU to win, though some of the best strategies tend to toss in a few BL and UU in surprising ways. After all, a lot of those guys are so sparsely used that most people don't really know what tod o when they see them.

Or you can just put together a Doubles Battle team, where quite a few BL/UU Pokes are way useful. Because doubles is broken :P

Speaking only from personal experience, I've had a lot more luck and, more importantly, a lot of fun using my mostly UU pokemon. Even now, only half my Gym is actually OU. I think. I've forgotten the tier list, so maybe The Hippo is BL?

Anyway, you don't need to feel guilty for going with OU Pokemon. Maybe if your using SkarmBliss, but otherwise it's fine. But like ChopperDave said, you'll do especially well if you can toss in an UnderUsed pokemon and use it in some unexpected way.

Also, I'd like to submit to you this video: BlueBlue VS InvisibleInk, G+T Finals Qualifying Match
From a tournament a while ago.
Wow, looking back on it, I did terrible in that match. It was only luck that I managed to win. Thats a terrible example, I shouldn't even link to it.
But I did win. And then I lost the match after that.
    That guy had a TyraniChomp.

Heh, MAN, you won that one by the skin of your teeth.

I'm trying pretty hard to work a UU and BL guy into my team. I'm a little ashamed that I couldn't bring myself to use less that 4 OUs! Maybe I can rotate some more interesting guys in there if the team works out...

But I figure it probably WON'T work out, and I'll end up up having to replace the UU guy with another OU one in a desperate attempt to win matches :P
