By the way Ink, that video with you battling Blue, holy cow, you impress me. Like, a lot.
I just said I was amazing. Don't copy me.
But thank you.
I'd impress myself if I could beat you more often. Speaking of Tournaments, in the First PA Tournament you were my first opponent, and your Drifblim fucked me up completely. I started with my awful Cradily that I never ever use anymore, and I just floundered about until it was quickly over. That was just depressing.
According to my Pal Pad i've beaten you once, lost twice, but I can't remember that win.
I'm glad I don't have to deal with OU Guilt. 15 Pokemon trained (not counting the Cradily) and only 6 that are not UU. Assuming I have the tier list right.
Also, more people should stroke my ego in this thread.
Pokethread, I have a question, just how awesome would you say my Venomoth is? Great Venomoth or Greatest Venomoth?
I don't remember Globita being the one who beat you completely, though. Then again, I don't remember anything from any battle except for the times I've gotten greedy with Dragon Dance (and swept by a fucking Yanmega in the same battle).
Also, I think I remember we've battled more times than that.
Hahaha, no. Hippo is one of the best Stealth Rock users and one of the best Tyranitar counters to exist.
Not the Surfing Special Attacker Tyranitar I've always wanted to make.
How does one become a great Stealth Rock user? It seems like any pokemon that can use it, can use it as well as any other. I suppose it has something to do with Def, Slack Off and dealing with Rapid Spin users?
Oh, and how about this for a Water Gym team:
Tyranitar
Relicanth/Omastar
Empoleon
Swampert
maybe a Milotic with Aqua Ring
108/118/72 defenses are nothing to sneeze at. Hippo will take a big chunk out of surfing T-Tar with EQ before it goes down. Or better, the player switches to a bulky water after he/she knows it has Surf/Ice Beam and watch how T-Tar can't do shit with its less than stellar Special Attack and Speed. Hippo can then Slack Off during another time.
Less than stellar? I guess. Thats probably why I end up with UU a lot of the time. 95 base Special Attack seems fantastic in my mind. And hopefully Surf would do enough damage the first turn that I could then use Dark Pulse to finish, or deal ok damage to this bulky water they might switch to.
Edit: I just figured out the 6th member of that Sandstorm Water team. Golduck with the Cloud Nine ability. Assuming that Cloud Nine protects it from Sandstorm.
Shit, I might think about this for my ground team. Does anyone know from experience how Cloud Nine works?
Speaking only from personal experience, I've had a lot more luck and, more importantly, a lot of fun using my mostly UU pokemon. Even now, only half my Gym is actually OU. I think. I've forgotten the tier list, so maybe The Hippo is BL?
Anyway, you don't need to feel guilty for going with OU Pokemon. Maybe if your using SkarmBliss, but otherwise it's fine. But like ChopperDave said, you'll do especially well if you can toss in an UnderUsed pokemon and use it in some unexpected way.
Also, I'd like to submit to you this video: BlueBlue VS InvisibleInk, G+T Finals Qualifying Match
From a tournament a while ago.
Wow, looking back on it, I did terrible in that match. It was only luck that I managed to win. Thats a terrible example, I shouldn't even link to it.
But I did win. And then I lost the match after that.
That guy had a TyraniChomp.
I can't beat that shit.
OMG you guys need to stop it with that, they aren't unbeatable, infernape is all you need for them plus weavile. i'm much more threatened by Tyranitar+shuckle any day of the week
Ferratto, you could have taken those 3 posts, added them all to your first post (the one that says double post) and then deleted those 3 posts. I think it's to late for that now that i've posted, but please keep it in mind.
Also, we all know that TyraniChomp is perfectly beatable. In fact, I have never once feared a Tyranitar. I've had my Rotom beat Tyranitars. I can only assume they weren't the perfect TTars, but still. Hitmonchan takes 'em in one punch (Mach Punch).
Also, if you had looked at the youtube vid that I linked in that post, you would have seen the team I was using in that Tournament. It's just to weak to handle the amount of OU that I eventually lost to. I did faint his Tyranitar though.
On the other hand, I've always feared Garchomps. Always a pain in the ass for me. Metagross too.
Also, it's Tinted Lens ability with a Choice Scarf.
yeah, i kinda made those posts as i was reading along, and i wouldve deleted them but idk how.
Cloud Nine takes away all weather effects, sandstorm doesnt buffet you or the opponent, solar beam still takes 2 turns even with sunny day, chlorophyll doesn't make you faster, etc.
how can i delete my posts? and i'll go watch that vid now, i was just checking how cloud nine worked for you =]
and I think you can still delete those posts. So it wouldn't be bad idea to copy those 3 posts into the first one, and delete the other 3.
I remember sending out a Rayquaza against Kyogre/Groudon in the game, and I was really confused when the Rain/Sun didn't end. So I guess thats how Cloud Nine works as well. It won't actually end the weather, it'll just cancel the effects.
Cool. Maybe I'll make a Hail team with Clefable, Golduck, and Roserade some day.
Yeah right, but those are 3 pokemon i'll always have to consider whenever i'm making a weather based team.
You can delete posts only when someone hasn't replied to them (this including yourself). Basically, you can do it if it's the last post.
Also, Infernape is pretty iffy against Tyranichomp if you don't have HP Ice (though I guess Grass Knot could work, though it's pretty rare). You've got to be able to OHKO the Chomp reliably, and not miss, or else you're busted.
edit: oh hey, I guess you can delete older posts too. That's new.
Ah. That battle. I can't bring myself to watch it, but that was the one with the feraligatr and the scarf bug and the crit at the end, right? God.
Someone (I think your previous opponent) had told me not to get cocky before fighting you. I was like "Yeah I realize getting cocky is bad but uh I'm going to do it anyway."
Having that video posted again makes me understand how RU must feel when I repost the "watch porygon kill his entire team" video.
Good LORD does this game pull some cheap ass tricks in the BT.
I just got Quick Claw Guillotine'd. TWICE. IN A ROW.
Good thing my team is AWESOME. My second guy just so happened to have a Focus Sash when he got ganked, flipped that cheapass Crawdaunt the bird and swept him and the rest of the team with ease.
35 rounds in and still going strong - this bodes pretty well for my team (I'm using three guys from my now-almost-completed "Water Gym" team).
Sweet, maybe i'll participate in the tournament...I mean, I've got the right pokemon and abilities...I was just worried about having to have them all at a ridiculous level since all of my local area friends outlevel the shit out of me.
Free levels I've only ever seen if you wanted to humiliate someone using FEAR. Nothing says 'lol' quite like a lvl 1 Rattata beating a lvl 100 Dialga.
And I've come to theorize that the battle tower is there to make you feel better about hax in normal matches. It ramps up eventually to the point where I swear, the random number generator is permanently *not* on your side. Fortunately once you start to get to that point, you can smack Palmer's team down pretty easily, so its quicker to get BP.
I'm gonna try and go with some of my UU pokemon and see what I'm capable of as a strategist.
Although, that probably isn't much seeing as how I don't have much battling experience to begin with haha.

Hey guys... its been forever since I posted in these threads. :P (sometimes around a month after release I think).
Anyway, after getting caught up in a crap ton of other stuff, and finally beating it. I came back around to my pokey mans.
Now, I left off on Victory Road, where I was grinding out levels to take on E4. Trying to get everyone to low to mid 50s.
My group was a Empoleon, Torterra, Charizard, Drifblim, Vespiqueen and Palkia.
Whats funny, is I made it thru by the skin of my teeth. Having just recently taught Drifblim Explosion, he had 1 hp on Cynthia's Lucario, and I crit'd with it. :O
So now that I've opened up so much more of the game, nat'l dex and whatnot, I'm putting together a team to hopefully take on some of you PA Gym leaders/E4. :P
I'm curious what you guys think though. This was put together in a couple hours. I don't really get into breeding, so this is what I'm left with:
Now, the only one I'm not to sure of is Ariados. And I don't like that Xatu and Ariados share a move. I love me some constructive critisicm, but you should note that this group is partly built around diversity, partly for 2v2s and partly just because some pokes look cool. :P
Weavile is pretty bad without Ice Punch which you can only get through breeding. Ice Beam is a special move and doesn't work well with Weavile's poor Special Attack. Same with Dark Pulse.
Earthquake and Earth Power are the only Ground attacks you should use. Even though Earthquake TMs are hard to come by, it is ten times better than whatever mud attack.
Solarbeam isn't too great without Sunny Day and is even worse when raining. Level it up to lvl. 66 to learn Earth Power.
Ariados sucks hardcore.
Nothing wrong with Magnezone, although Thunder + Rain Dance is a nicer combo than Discharge.
Give Xatu some supporting moves, like Wish, Roost, Thunder Wave etc. 4 Attacks are a bit much unless you're running Choice items.
Chen beat me to it, but I agree with it all, and add- what are the natures? IVs only matter if you're seriously going for a competitive team (or are just a bit crazy), but natures are easy (ish) enough to get to be worth mentioning. Physical attackers should usually be either Adamant or Jolly (both improve attack or speed at the cost of special attack, which doesn't matter) and special attackers should usually be either Modest or Timid (same as before, but at the cost of physical attack in this case). Mixed attackers and tanks get more complicated, but the above is a start.
In some cases there are other ground attacks that can be usable over EQ and Earth Power. Bonemarang can be useful for sub breaking. But EQ has power. Also, Surf and Waterfall are better water attacks (though they're not the only usable water attacks by any means).
I'll mention since Magnezone's carrying Rain Dance anyway, might as well give it Thunder for the 100% accuracy in the rain.
Chen I'm surprised you would say Ariados sucks hardcore but not Magcargo. Magcargo is one of those pokemon that is still very bad even in Diamond and Pearl. It just has so many weaknesses. 4x weak to Water, 4x weak to Ground. Every single pokemon you'll ever face has water and ground moves. No one else is worried about using the same attack on multiple pokemon.
Magcargo, Ariados and Xatu are usuable, maybe. If you have a strategy and lots of experience. They're a bad way to start. I'd suggest taking the Empoleon, Torterra and Drifblim you mentioned earlier and find a way to work them into your team. Thats a much more enjoyable way to start out.
And the Ground Gym looks forward to defeating all newcomers. And also Sir Red.
I thought I Ariados was cool in the GBA games. STAB Sludge Bomb and Signal Beam with a really nice Atk stat. It lost those two things, gained some weaker replacement, but now it has Sucker Punch. Which is nice, since most people won't know that. Becuase who the hell would ever use Ariados.
I think the Poison Gym uses an Ariados Chen. So you better watch your mouth buddy. Insult his pokemon? He'll take your ass down. Just look at what I did to RockinX for insulting Lucario.
I didn't do anything.
What use does Magma Armor have? I mean, in Battle. It's great for hatching eggs, I know that.
Are you thinking of Camerupts Solid Rock ability?
Well, pretty much. I could still use another Leftovers - things aren't exactly the easiest to get a hold of - but it's not THAT important and I can roll on without them for a little bit. I look forward to seeing how these guys fare in battle later this week! Perhaps I will troll a coffee shop tomorrow, yes...

MU? what's that?
compound eyes+ hypnosis and i think they have it on choice scarf nonetheless
nvm, it doesnt get compound, i must've been thinking of a butterfree

Unless you choose to go free levels. But no one does that! :P
But in reality most of my ground team is in the mid 30's, and two in the mid 40's.
I wanted Hammer Arm on Swampert, but then I saw I'd have to take it to level 69. Fuck that. I don't need Hammer Arm that bad.
