It's better on Scyther, actually, because he can use Aerial Ace. Though Metal Claw on Scizor isn't bad, either (Technician multiplies the power of an <=60 move by 1.5, so Aerial Ace goes from 60 to 90 and then to 135 with Scyther's STAB bonus, and Metal claw goes from 50 to 75 and then 113 with Scizor's STAB Bonus). You can also use it to up the power of stuff like Double Hit (good against substitutes), Quick Attack, and Pursuit, though you won't get the STAB Bonus.
Lastly, it can actually be pretty fun to use Fury Cutter while holding a Metronome item and getting the Technician bonus - the damage ramps up FAST. But it requires you to both survive long enough to get the hits in (and usually, to get an Agility up), and to not miss.
edit: while it boosts Silver Wind by 1.5, Scizor's SP ATK is ass while his ATK is fuckawesome, so dont use Silver Wind.
Oh. I'm following now :P
I have a bulbasaur egg if anyone wants to get in on this.
someone (maybe you) asked that earlier.... what does "getting in on it" entail? Are you giving away bulbasaur, or do I need to provide something? (which I don't have at this point, obviously)
But then I feel bad because someone could use one :P
If you're giving them away then I would love one.
Get online.

Have the game, and I have like, six pokemon. you can probably guess which ones. Goddess, I am such a newb. Took me forever even to figure out how to pry my code out of this devil machine!

Blah, I have no luck sometimes in this game. Anyone around that has a bold Ditto or a bold Pokemon with Synchronize that I could have, or even just borrow for a little while? I'm in need of a Bold natured pokemon, and I'm lacking in anything that could reliably get that nature.
I've heard that everstones don't work right with traded pokemon - but I have a bold umbreon you could use to try and get your own bold ditto/other pokemon.
As far as I'm aware, only Pokemon traded from a Japanese copy of the game don't work correctly with a normal, US copy of Pokemon. I could be wrong about that, of course.
In either case, though, a synchronizer should work fine, if there's one to spare.

yeah, I was in your shoes three days ago, use a dusk ball at night, just save before you do it. You get a dusk ball as a gift in the next town. Teleport is his only move, so until you get sleep or disable you'll have to catch him with one ball.
edit: I wanted a strong psychic early on, so I taught abra hidden power so it would have an attack and power leveled it to 16 to make it a kadabra, then traded with someone here to make it alakazam. It's a pretty tough little scrapper now, but I've got meditite and machamp for fighting, so I've been just giving it psychic moves.
Also, I've got a question on EV training, I just want to see if I have this right.
There's no way to tell just how many ev points your pokemon has gotten till you hit lvl 100 right? Then it pops up in your stats? So if I wanted to find a good grind spot and go ahead and ev train one of my pokemon I'd just have to use the counter for now?
There is no way to know your EVs at all. If you know its IVs, you can calculate the number of EVs each stat has.
You have to keep track of them yourself. Also, EVs are effective immediately, but they are proportional to the level, and the maximum effectiveness of them comes at level 100 (you see the full results of what you harvested for at level 100).

okay, so I take my alakazam, and I want to get it's special attack and speed up, so I go out and fight until I've killed 200 or so of both creatures that do that, and at lvl 100 I actually see them reflected in my stats?
There's a Stat Calculator at Psypokes.com, and you can also take your pokemon into a Lvl 100 battle and check their stats just to make sure.
You really shouldn't be giving any thought to EV training until you've beaten the E4 at least.
It's easier to EV train, and you'll have access to more of the Items and TMs that are neccessary to make a good competitive team.
If you need Pokerus and a Macho Brace I can offer those to you.
Being able to earn the Power Items from the Battle Tower is another reason you should wait until after the E4.
You'll only need to fight 15-20 pokemon in order to Max out a stat when you've got the right items+Pokerus.
Great threads guys. I'm almost at the end of Pearl and my question is:
Do I use my master ball on the legendary that is on the cover of the box? I think it's Piakla.
Thanks guys. I have to get on Wifi and hopefully will get some trades done after I become the League Champion of my little DS card.
You can but it's hardly necessary. I caught Dialga with one quick ball on my first turn. There are other legendaries later that are harder to catch and you might want the master ball for one of them.

What Ink said! Also, keep in mind that fighting with that pokemon to this point has been earning you (probably random) evs, and once you reach the cap, more ev training has no effect. If you desperately wanted to ev train that guy, you'd need to feed him the stat-lowering berries until each of the stats 'couldn't go lower'.
Also vitamins from the department store can be used for 10 evs a pop, for up to 100 in a stat.

Nope. You'll want your Master Ball on the annoying gits that run across the map since unlike other Legendaries you can't just 'save, reload if failure'.

So would a better decision be to just beat the game, then go back and say, if I wanted kadabra in my lineup, go catch an abra at lvl 5 and start over, since I can get more exp now from higher level pokemon and go anywhere?
Most people breed their teams. Raise them from Lvl 1. and you can breed unique moves (egg moves) or rare TMs onto the baby. But that isn't always necessary. Catching a wild pokemon could be fine. It doesn't matter what level they're at, just make sure you get a good nature.
You can effect the chance of getting a certain nature on the baby when you breed, so again breeding is generally the way to go.
I hope this isn't getting to complex or annoying for you.
We have so few people, I don't want to scare anyone off.

not at all, that's why I got into this game, because I'm a sucker for OCD tactics and strategy.. I just don't see why (in the case of EVs), pokemon took the most important build system and made it invisible. I guess they just didn't expect people to break it or something.
I'm just a) getting all the information I need, and b) trying to figure out how I want to play this. I think now I'm just going to concentrate on beating the e-4 so I can unlock everything, then work towards breeding my superteam. I've got an idea of a lineup already, I just figured the best way would be to catch them.
edit: also, I've been working my ass off to physically catch all 150 pokemon for the national dex, but I see that all I have to do is actually battle them, not catch them. Seeing as how I won't use 90% of these pokemon, is there a reason to catch them?
Edit:
Yeah, the ivs and evs being invisible is kind of crappy. I think it started as a way for each pokemon to be unique, even within the same species, and maybe they thought they wouldn't get caught or something. But now... well, they're not completely invisible. You have the npc in that sun..town?.. that gives you a ribbon when you've reached the ev cap, and pokerus/machobrace/power items which exist only to help you gain evs at a quick rate. Also, the little flavor text you get about your pokemon's personality is based on the last digit of your strongest iv - Alert to sounds (speed), often dozes off (hp), mischievous(sp atk) (it seems I only remember the ones that correspond to a 31). I wouldn't be surprised if one day we get a version that has an npc or something that will completely tell you your ivs/evs, or the equivalent of a poketch app or something.
