How many of you have seen this before, “PS3 iz better than Xsucks 360†or “Xbox 360 pwnors POS 3â€. I’m here to debunk these statements and explain why both systems are good and who there are good for.
Let’s start with the Xbox 360:
Online
The Xbox 360 has pretty good online support. With in game chat and friends list and downloadable content what’s not to like about it. Unfortunately that’s where the good stops. The problem with charging for online is that it doesn’t really allow it to grow. Because Microsoft is making money off of the online gaming, it makes them reluctant to change it. Sure they might try to add a few minor changes but since they are making money, they want to keep making money. Another problem with the online is that it has no dedicated servers. Without dedicated servers all you get is matchmaking. You can’t see what games you join and even though you might be able to narrow down the random, you will never have the complete freedom to pick your games. With the PS3’s free online it allows Sony to make major changes to its online (like home). They also have dedicated servers which, in my opinion, is a lot better the matchmaking.
Multimedia
Both machines have good multimedia capabilities. I can’t really comment on which one has better multimedia because what it really comes down to is if HD DVD or blur ray wins the format war.
Reliability
This has been a touchy issue in the past year. Let’s start with the Xbox. Microsoft rushed their console so they would be first in the console race. The result is a console with over heating issues. In my opinion it was pretty dumb to try to release the console early since all of the Xbox’s really good games came out a year after its release. The PS3 so far has been pretty reliable. Only a few genuine cases of PS3’s failing (the dust thing was faked).
And Finally…Games
For this gen it’s really going to come down to the exclusives. The multiplatforms are almost identical on both systems so I won’t go into them. The Xbox exclusives are mainly first person shooters (Halo 3) and western RPG’s (mass) effect). The problem with the Xbox exclusives is that Microsoft is doing the same thing that it did with its original Xbox. They release as many exclusive early in the consoles life (Halo 1) with a few good ones near the end of its life (Halo 2). With Sony plans the release of their exclusive games so they last over the consoles life. That’s why you currently don’t see many AAA games out.
Anyway, this is just my two cents. Happy gaming.
