I'm actually playing X3 right now and currently collecting all the free space ships.
The best is when you fly through a xenon sector and suddenly billions of red dots on the map are flying in your direction and shit shit shit wormhole shiiiit
And then when you mad it out of there, you see that they are already attacking the next sector with huge M1 ships blowing up space station and oh my god wooooormhole
Made it all the way to within 20k of a fucking station, then a Pirate Reaver (battleship) shows up behind me and assrapes me into oblivion. I should NOT be getting outran by motherfucking M2 ships.
I should install X3 again, but do you know how many space games I'm playing? I've got Evochron Renegades installed (I went ahead and upgraded to the full version), Freelancer, and Spaceforce: Rogue Universe. I'm contemplating Darkstar One, too. Bloody Hell!
How is X3 with Xtended? Man, I don't know what I'm going to do with all these damned space games. I'm surprised, though, how active Freelancer still is. There are tons of servers and mods, and the Discovery mod server has 80 people active on average. The highest they got so far was recently 128 players at once. A lot of those mods add in players and clans contesting for systems, kind of like EVE.

Oh man, I've got a copy of this back at the dorm just waiting to christen my new rig (though still neck-and-neck with Oblivion, to be honest). I plan on goin' straight into Extended, but are there any other mods I should run as well (particularly any that make manual mining not suck balls like it did in X2)?
Yeah, but does it still have to go over every square centimeter of a 125-click area of space over the course of ten minutes to bring in one roid's worth of ore? Or does this iteration let you go at 'em EVE/Evochron/Fruit Fucker style?
Ok, giving up on the nova for tonight. Tomorrow after work I'll try again. Currently I can get DOWN there without any problems, don't even get attacked. On the way back, there's a motherfucking Battleship in the way, right before the Maelstrom gate. And it runs faster than the fucking Nova, so I can't even outrun it.
Without fail, it's always there, but depending on how fast I go down it's in a different spot. Tomorrow I'm going to try and waste more time to see if I can't dodge it. If I can just hold off for another, say, 5 minutes while running SETA 10x I should be able to avoid it entirely.
I finally made it to the goddamned fucking station. I had to fucking kill 2 novas and a harrier raider to do it, but I do it.
And a motherfucking Xenon Q (battlecruiser) literally APPEARS behind the station when I'm not fucking 200 meters from the goddamned thing, and blows me away in one big orgy of assrape.
Sounds like an interesting expansion. Who looked at X3 and though, "this game should be more frustrating"
Seriously, I haven't been this pissed off at a game I can't put down since motherfucking Everquest.
God, I want to punch something.
Currently I gave up on the fucking Nova, and am currently dinking around trying to get the Mamba Raider. You know, the one in a minefield? Well, in the expansion, the small pirate sectors (like that one) are fucking deathtraps, cause in a small sector like that one -- you can see the etnire sector with a standard duplex scanner -- that means every goddamned pirate twit can see YOU, too. So far I can get into the Mamba Raider, and actually start fleeing "down" (z-) to escape, but there's an Eclipse (M3+) that chases me down and kills me rather quickly.
So current plan is to get an advanced satellite and throw it in there to better track when the conga-line of pirates calms down.
That Evochron Renegades game sounds pretty spiffy, almost too good to be true. It basically has everything that's missing from X3, including multiplayer. Has anyone tried it yet? Is it worth getting?
There's no fucking reason, AT ALL, that a pirate sector should be more dangerous than a goddamned Xenon or Kha'ak sector. I'm fighting the goddamned space equivalent of Captain Jack Sparrow (and despite the movie being good, he was still a dumbfuck). The other two are genocidal supervillain armies that have both brought the galaxy to it's knees.
So I'm going to start over on Normal instead of Xtreme. Before you say it, the only difference is your starting ship, and I ditched that long, long ago. Lets see how well this works.
I wouldn't give anyone shit for not starting on Xtreme. All it does is make the early, unbearably tedious hours that much longer.
That's not my problem, my problem is the "official mod" Xtended changes the goddamned pirate sectors into super skullfucks of EQ style screwovers.
Instead of running into a Pirate Harrier, Falcon, MAYBE a Nova if you're really screwed... You end up with hordes of:
Keas (Like a nova, except they move at 200, so you can't outrun them)
BlastClaws (like a nova, but which feels like it has something like 250MJ of shields -- oh, and they have two turrets, so get behind them and you die)
Elites (Novas, only bigger, with two turrets)
Eclipse (Novas, only bigger, with two turrets, AND faster)
Marauder (Pirate M6, roughly on par with a Centaur)
Cara-something (Pirate M2, roughly on par with a Xenon K)
And I'm not talking about 1 or 2 groups like in normal X3. I'm talking fleets of 1 or 2 of those M2s, a M6, 6 or 7 groups of a Kea, BlastClaw, and Harrier, etc etc.
Get ready to never see the sun again(except the digital version in X3). Tube, we'll miss you :P You can find more information on it on steam under coming soon, or Egosoft's site. Oh God, sexiness.
Terran Conflict OH GOD. MUST Have....I didn't realize it was coming out this month!
X2/X3 are some of my all-time favorite games. I just wish the capital ships were a little...spiffier. A lot of that though is due to the dumbness of combat AI. My fighter compliment is frustratingly stupid in a dogfight, and so I have to rely on my laser turrets which always seem kinda crappy.

Someone explain to me why I can't seem to capture ships in vanilla x3. Have the steam version. I keep trying and blasting them down but they're stubborn bastards.
Also what's a good dogfighting missile, I'm very lost as to missile types and there's no stats. I managed to outfit my nova with a decent set of primary weps. 3 apac, 3ahep, 2 of the puniest little lasers just for you know, the hell of it. Another in the turret set to missile defence.
I want to replace the puny lasers with ion eventually but I'm poor.
Combat was pissing me off with all the stubborn pilots so much I went back to trading.
What's a decent sector near the argon territories for noob capping. I like the pirate sectors nearby but I'm still a bit of a noob at combat so I take on packs too big for me a lot.

That's the exact problem, they are stubborn bastards. Vanilla bailout rates are notoriously low - something like 2-3% low, methinks - so it's a real crapshoot unless you get a mod to fix it up (don't know if they'll work with the Steam version, though) like Bail Signal Extension.

Basically it goes that you've got the Hornet on top, which is basically a fighter-scale nuclear warhead, and then you've got all these other crappy types that either don't do nearl enough damage or are so fucking slow that they're outright useless.. As for the guns, it goes IRE, PAC, HEP, PPC for the mainline stuff, Alphas are fast but weak, Gammas hit like a fucking truck relative to the weapon type but're slower, Betas are nice and balanced, and the power gap between each class is usually something along the lines of 10x the previous type'e power. Ions I don't think are really that useful since they've got crappy range and don't do nearly as much shield damage as a few GPACs or BHEPs would, though for clusters of gnats they might be good.

IIRC some of the pirate sectors are actually the better places to hunt since some of them act as joiners between different empires - there's this one PS between Argon and Paranid space SE of Argon Prime and near Priest's Rings or Priest's Pity or Priest's P{erversion or whatever the hell it's called, and if you camp near the Paranid gate you can pick off traders as they're coming in (they're douchebags anyway, so pissing them off won't be that big a deal).

So what the most secure, reasonable speed way to make early game money is the trading runs I'm doing?
I got me a 7000m3 ship and a baby mercury dude off doing runs and levelling up in that top left sector.
Guess I'll just keep on plugging away until I hit some kind of infrastructure critical mass.

the critical point for making money is getting a sector trader online in Empire's Edge.
Re: missiles, they're not worthwhile unless you have a factory mass producing them, and you're using disruptors. If memory serves, you can't manafacture disruptors anyway, so don't bother with missiles.

Also, anyone know if TC takes place at the same time as the X3:R ending, or a few years later, or what? It looks like they're integrating the X3:R Bonus Pack into it (Player HQ, for example), which is a great way to end the series, I guess.
I hope they come back with a great X4 in a year or two, or something, but...

Im pretty sure its just picks up at least a short while from the ending of Reunion, not sure though, since they haven't really said anything about it.
So Terran Conflict was supposed to come out today, but it kind of got delayed until the 17th

Is Terran Conflict a stand-alone game or an expansion?
Stand-alone game, although it uses the same engine as X3.
The delay was due to not getting the manuals printed on time, according to them, but bug fixing in the meantime is sure to happen, and that's always good.
They put out a whole bunch of patches for X3 though, and I expect the same to happen with TC, so most of the bugs will get ironed out by the 4.7 Patch in 2010.
