Rock Band will win GoTY awards from the past, retroactively, because the amount of pure rock awesome stuffed into the game is so dense that it's created a singularity. Rolling Stone just awarded it GoTY 1980 - fuck that Pac Man guy. Right now, in the year 20,000 BC, there are a bunch of fucking apes shaking bones at a 10 foot tall copy of Rock Band standing in the midst of their domain.

I would like to file a petition for some Def Leppard DLC. Pretty much anything off of Pyromania or Hysteria. Rock of Ages, Rocket, Animal, Pour Sugar, Love Bites, etc etc. And I may as well throw in Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd.

On a side note - when an Iron Maiden song comes up in RB or GH am I the only who yells "Scream for me, Long Beach!" out loud every single time? If Revelations were added as DLC then I'd be able to yell "Let me see your lighters out there!", too.

Here's a question for Moss that may actually be able to be answered, however I'm sure by asking it I'm setting myself up to by lynched by the community and probably banned for some vague reason. Anyways here goes.

My friend and I were discussing this last night, but what is the possibility of a cheat code that eliminates having to use the kick pedal on drums? I've had 4 seperate people play this with me, and all have given up within a half hour on the drums and just said "fuck it" because of the learning curve of the kick pedal. This is discouraging to me as I'm sick of this being "Guitar Hero plus Allforce on drums constantly". Basically have the kick pedal parts be played automatically like the demo stations do and let you just wail on the pads? Maybe have it disable saving while the code is activated? Could this be something that could be added via a patch or maybe something that's been discussed before internally? Thanks for answering if you can.

Anyway, it's obviously possible, as you recognize that it was there in the demo stations. There's also already the existing cheat in there (to access all songs) that does save disabling and such. It's not a technical issue. Priority issue, yes.

I'd jump on the RB forums (when they're back up) and put in your request there, as they are read regularly by "the right people." (FYI, I am "the wrong people"... too messed up in the head, methinks.)

When doing band world tour did anybody have a problem with the mystery setlists (or some of the name ones) being repetitive? We ended up playing "My Name Is Jonas" and "Bloom" like 10 or 15 times each while going through BWT, it was really annoying.

Is it because the kick pedal is unresponsive, or that people have trouble controlling their feet while drumming?

If it's the latter, you'll learn how to control it eventually. When I used to drum, it was tough getting used to it. It took me a couple of weeks - and this was doing very basic beats. I can imagine it being a bit overwhelming for a first-timer actually playing a song.

Anyhow, if you stick with it, you'll get it. Just try not to get too frustrated, and keep in mind that it'll take a bit of practice.

Also, I'd like to mention that I am super pumped for the drumming in this game. It looks so spot-on, and I think it's a very good simulation of simple drumming. Nice job Harmonix.

Can you say if there's other cheat codes IN the game now that haven't been found? Maybe something like Hyper Mode from GH II (or whatever that was called where the fret board went like twice as fast)?

Even on easy drums? I don't know anyone who can't finish a song on easy drums.

A friend at work had a party where they all thought I was some drum god because I coudl do 95+% on medium all the time, but even they could FINISH songs on easy. They would get low percentages and sometimes have to be bailed out by others, but they would finish the songs. It did make me feel good when a few of them thought that medium looked easy so they tried it and then failed out horribly.

I probably would have been doing some hard as well, but the drumpads had the mousepad 'fix' on them. I didn't like that at ALL. I would get misses that would mess up my streaks when I would hit a pad a little off center. And it wasn't consistent at all when a pad would fail to register.

If people are having trouble with the kick pedal, you can always play it for them. Whenever my little cousin plays I always do the kick for him, because in addition to making it harder, he can't really push it down very well.

Well, it would probably be hard to get the coordination down then. Especially with the sauce in your system. Really, if your friends sit down for a little while, they can probably get it.

Have you guys seen these? Just found linked from GAF, but apparently there are some people selling bass pedal reinforcement plates made out of aluminum and such ... I'd been toying with ghetto-rigging myself but perhaps it's worth it just to buy one. I don't know, though; part of the geek pride of mods is being able to say you did it yourself. On the other hand: I'm really lazy.

Well no they can finish songs on Easy (as can my 6 year old daughter, go figure), but in my opinion there's a real definitive line for casuals in this game on all instruments to where you go from what feels like you're "playing a game and just hitting buttons" to "hey this feels like I'm actually playing this song!". I'm sure a ton of you can't even go back to Medium or Hard on guitar because it just doesn't FEEL like you're playing a song.

I know what you mean -- my wife can handle most drums on Easy, but even on the later tiers sometimes the bass-pad combinations are pretty hectic for someone new to rhythm gaming. Until any potential patch (which I'd love to see, btw, so I'll echo the sentiment for it when the official forums come back online), you may want to tell your friends just to ignore the bass hits they don't want to play. A lot of times, trying to play the hit and missing is worse than just ignoring it completely. Failing that, like mentioned above, have someone else do just the pedal or try to kick it yourself while playing something else.

I would think there would be all sorts of balance issues related to instituting such a cheat in the retail version. Band leaderboards and Drum leaderboards would turn meaningless overnight.

Um, but removing the kick would make it even LESS like really playing a song. I guess I don't understand the problem if they can finish the songs. Do you mean they would rather play on medium but can't because of the kick?

I guess I could understand that.

As far as guitar, yeah, I can't play on medium anymore. Just too slow. And there are still songs I really have trouble with on Hard. Several of the police songs (damn chord, nochord, chord, nochord really fast), suffrogette city, and enter sandman. Oddly back when I was stuck on suffrogette city on hard I four starred GG&HT in quickplay on hard and found it pretty easy. Different strokes I guess.

Well my EB confirmed today that there is no way they're receiving Rock Band tomorrow, and that it's highly unlikely that they'll have it before Christmas. BB and FS aren't even entertaining getting it before Christmas. I refuse to give $500 to Play Me for it. My Christmas holidays are pretty much ruined... I have no idea what I'm going to do for the next 2 weeks now. :-(

    Air guitar? Air drum?

...rig some paper to a treadmill, draw a fretboard with notes on it and push go?

So Moss, since you're chatty today...on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being awesome and 10 being super-awesome, how would you rate the new community features we're going to be seeing anytime now?

I actually haven't seen them yet...

Darn. Was hoping they did some sort of internal beta test deal or something. Thanks for responding anyway. I'm hoping the features will be pretty cool...I'm glad the launch was pushed back after seeing the GH3 community site just sit there broken for two weeks after release.

Well, yeah, they have been doing internal testing, but we have a QA department for that. I'm just a lowly (non-web) coder. *sniff*

I know we already got some Metallica DLC, but I just listened to the Garage Days album.

We need Whiskey in the Jar, Am I Evil, and Turn the Page. Badly.

    YES!

Problem is that those are covers, and I figure bands who made covers are probably low on the list of potential DLC (if anything, they'd probably go for the original songs by the original artist). Still, I really want Turn the Page. And Whiskey in the Jar.

I'm betting the next Metallica DLC is gonna be full album Master of Puppets, though. Which is fine since it's got Battery and Sanitarium.

Yeah, a game I took extra time off to play. Time I'll end up spending playing cards or something.
