I'm betting the next Metallica DLC is gonna be full album Master of Puppets, though. Which is fine since it's got Battery and Sanitarium.

This would be fantasticly awesome, but only as long as they left in Orion. I really want to know if they can even do songs that leave a part out, in this case vocals. I guess they could add the clapping or whatever throughout the song, but that would be kinda dumb imo.

I can totally understand why someone would want to disable the kick drum, I think it would be a great feature to implement. A lot of casual RBers would enjoy it and I, as a drumming newbie who wants to become 'good' at it, would like to be able to use it for training purposes. I'd love to be able to play some songs on hard or expert with the pads only, just so I can focus on improving that aspect of my playing. Then once I feel comfortable with it I'd add in the kick.

Please, God, please. RB needs some instrumental metal so hard. Orion, stuff by Russian Circles, Mogwai, Mono, whatever... bring it.

RE - Garage Days. I would love to see The Small Hours and The Prince as DLC. But as far as Whiskey in the Jar goes I would much prefer the Thin Lizzy version, which IMO smokes Metallica's. Some more Thin Lizzy, stuff like Renegade. Robin Trower's 'Bridge of Sighs' would be sick, too. Ok, I need to stop with the requests.

So Moss, since you're chatty today...on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being awesome and 10 being super-awesome, how would you rate the new community features we're going to be seeing anytime now?

I actually haven't seen them yet...

Darn. Was hoping they did some sort of internal beta test deal or something. Thanks for responding anyway. I'm hoping the features will be pretty cool...I'm glad the launch was pushed back after seeing the GH3 community site just sit there broken for two weeks after release.

Well, yeah, they have been doing internal testing, but we have a QA department for that. I'm just a lowly (non-web) coder. *sniff*

I guess they could just exclude vocals from the song. As in, whenever you pick the song and the difficulty options come up for all players, vocals are just grayed out, and they exclude the song when playing single-player vocals. The same sort of theory could apply to acoustic songs with the drums and bass.

That or make clapping. Or freestyle sections. But that wouldn't work since everyone else would murder anyone trying to sing during Orion.

I know we already got some Metallica DLC, but I just listened to the Garage Days album.

We need Whiskey in the Jar, Am I Evil, and Turn the Page. Badly.

    YES!

Problem is that those are covers, and I figure bands who made covers are probably low on the list of potential DLC (if anything, they'd probably go for the original songs by the original artist). Still, I really want Turn the Page. And Whiskey in the Jar.

I'm betting the next Metallica DLC is gonna be full album Master of Puppets, though. Which is fine since it's got Battery and Sanitarium.

From what I understand Whiskey in the Jar is a public domain traditional folk tune, so that should be fine. Obviously the covers would be weird... but they're just so awesome!

I dunno, I think a good mix of instrumentals would be pretty good. Pink Floyd did a few awesome ones, as did Metallica, and a few others I can think of. And of course there's already the Boston one in there, right?

And holy shit... WE NEED ERUPTION!

Heheh, yah I think if you tried to add vocals to Orion, then Lars actually shows up at your house and bludgeons you do death w/ the mic.

And yes, I want some guitar/vocal only songs too. Especially so I can cue them up in my solo BWT efforts. Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley...holy crap that would be so awesome to sing/play yourself...

Any Canadians have any luck picking this up? The local EB lied outright, "guaranteeing" a copy today. Turns out that's been bumped to the twenty-seventh, which is likely another made up number. I called another EB in the area and they were still on track for the 20th, but they were only getting two copies.

Also, Futureshop and Best Buy have bumped the prices on their site to $200. What a bunch of horseshit.

Man, they totally ripped of Battlestar Galactica for that verse.

A game doesn't have to be the most original game of the year to be considered the greatest of the year, it just has to take its features and make them an awesome experience.

I think the way they did it was brilliant for beginners. I forced myself to play through easy, and I noticed that it would alternate between having no kick notes but constant hi-hat/ride, and kick but none or minimal hi-hat/ride.

Removing the kick pedal requirement would ruin the game for me and make it another Donkey Konga-style abomination. It'd be kinda like removing the strum requirement from guitar hero.

I actually wish there were 2 pedals (one for the hi-hat), like there should be.

I don't know on PS3, but it's not too long of a wait. I know on X360 I can download tracks and start/continue playing other songs then when the download's complete, head over to the extra setlist and select them. Of course, the packs take longer to DL then individual songs.

We can do the same on PS3, although I usually start the download and wait for it to finish so I can jump in and start playing the new stuff ASAP. I don't know what kind of connection Lord Yod has, but they download in just a few seconds for me. We do have to exit the game to make the new content show up though.

Just for fun I'd like to relay to you all my rock band experience.

Here is a copy an email detailing my adventure that I've sent to EA, Harmonix, and the better business bureau. Spoiled for size.
Hello, my name is David Kilroy, and i would like to relay to you my Rock Band experience.

I purchased rock band on its release day, though due to holiday preparations i didn't get to open it until nov 25 (thanksgiving) . Now one of the main reasons i made this purchase so early was that I wanted the game to play with my younger cousins, nieces, and nephews during thanksgiving and christmas, and I told them all I got rock band and they were all very excited too see uncle Dave this Thanksgiving. So I start emptying the box and assembling the drums and such as the younger ones start piling down and watching in anticipation.

The first thing I notice wrong is that I was only sent one drum stick...odd, but i happen to have a pair of real drum sticks, problem solved! Then when plugging everything in i can't seem to get my guitar hero 3 guitar to work for the game. Hmm the box says it works with most guitar peripherals, and since the guitar hero 3 is the ONLY other peripheral available for the ps3, I assumed it would work. Oh well, i guess only 3 of us can play at a time.

So we make our characters and a band and such, and we start our first song...and we suck. And we seemed even worse in the next 2 songs. On my turn on the drums i see a reason why, the red drum pad only registers about 50% of the hits, and to add insult to injury the bass pedal came apart on me (the linch pin holding the pedal to its base came out, I put it back in place but it kept slipping out in play). Well drums are out, 2 player game now. My turn on guitar comes up, and guess what, the down strum (right handed) only registers about 75% of the hits. I now own a 1 player singing game...I didn't realize I bought a $170 karaoke machine. I then got to see the disappointed faces of all my younger relatives, boy don't I feel like a piece of crap.

"Oh well". I said. "At least we'll all be able to play together on christmas" (foreshadowing!!)

Next day, nov 26, i call ea and make an rma for my guitar and drum kit. I was told on the phone that I would get my pad, pedal, and sticks all in one box. 1st to arrive was my guitar replacement, a little over a week later, not bad! Problem though....I seem to be failing all of my songs due to a double strum effect...

Ring ring 45 minutes listening to elevator music on hold, ok hi my replacement guitar is even more broken then the last one. Did I get an apology? No I get questioned by a man as to what I did to break this guitar? I'm the one who should be mad, don't you test this crap before you ship it!!!! Blah blah we'll ship you another guitar.

My 3rd guitar arrives a little over a week later, and you know what? Works great!! Although there is still a problem, they've delivered 2 guitars to me but I haven't seen any drum stuff yet? Ring ring la di da more elevator music on hold hello? Oh it seems those drums were never shipped, let me send you to someone in the express department, back on hold la di da, Ok i get a new RMA for my drum stuff. Can I have a tracking number for these items? Oh we can't tell you that over the phone, but we'll email you all the information within 10 minutes.

I never did get that email.

I received my drum pads and sticks on Dec 18. Where's my pedal...I'll have to make another call, but first let me check these pads. Oh look at this, they sent me the XBOX 360 drum pads, not the PS3 ones I specifically asked for...

RING FRIGGIN RING WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!! It's been 28 days and counting and I still haven't been able to play drums. Okay calm down, they'll express me another drum pad. And you know what, I don't have to send them back the XBOX drum set!!!

Wait is that some sort of gift? What am I going to do with a drum sets i can't use? Build a fort out of it along with all the other plastic guitar hero guitars i have that don't work on rock band? Yeah no thanks, send me a prepaid shipping box for this crap, throw out your own garbage.

Next day (Dec 19, today as I'm writing this) I notice I have no tracking or reference number for my incoming drum pads, and my tracking number for the pedal still says it has yet to leave your warehouse.

Ring ring, I relay my problems, and once again get put on hold for 10 minutes to the escalated department, though when the phone picks up it's the same man as before. He then tells me they never made an RMA for my drum pads yesterday, and the bass pedal rma from a week ago must not have processed right. He then makes 2 new RMAs for these items, and gives me the reference and tracking numbers over the phone. Odd, I thought, I've been told countless times over these weeks that they can't give that info over the phone, and they've said they'd just email me. This man informs me that they can't make outside emails, so basically the people who said they'd email me my tracking numbers for all of my RMAs have been lying to me. Fantastic.

So it's another 5-7 business days of wait, which means I realistically won't have drums here by Christmas. Which means I get to see those disappointed faces not once, but twice.

EA has never offered me any free game or coupon other people are reporting getting, not that I particularly plan on playing an EA game any time in the future after this debacle. I'd much rather return this crap, but it doesn't seem possible.

I just wanted to say thanks for making me the bad guy on the holidays twice now.

I'm sending this message here because I don't really see any complaint department on your website, so I'm also sending a copy of this to the better business bureau. You have given me the most appalling customer service I've ever dealt with, you clearly don't check or test anything you're sending out, and my problem is still not resolved. Maybe in a month or two I'll be able to play this game I spent $170 on.

I defy someone to top my customer service experience. If you think you can live up to mine then we can have a bitching duel, I got my white glove ready to slap someone's face.
