Yes. From the youtube of the video review it looks like he was pissed at gamespot for having ads of this game everywhere. I don't know what gave me this impression but towards the end it's almost like he knows what's about to happen.
Rey Del Aguila on
Because you know who SAID you know what with you know who, let's keep that between me and you.
Except before now I used to rely on them in addition to PA/SA for reviewing, because Gamespy and IGN are balls and I don't know any others
Someone link me off some "known" good review/news sites?
google zero punctuation
This is epic shit
Thank you so much
(edit) hahahahahha oh my god the Orange Box review "... and the Sniper for people who really like point and click adventure games although admittedly the only puzzle is Use Gun On Man."
he is awesome, last week he was invited to valve for his review of the orange box because they loved it so much
during that week he got to hang out with tycho and some other guy from the game industry
if this shit turns out to be true (and I'm not really sure how anyone could legitimately disprove it at this point) I won't be visiting gamespot anymore

So I decided to brave the unwashed masses and delve into the gamespot forums.
They seem to be unimpressed and there is massive (though I can't encourage people to do this because it's against the rules, so don't do this or drugs kids) raid going on at the Edios forums as well.
Fired for reviewing a game and not giving a high enough score
Goddammit, there is no integrity whatsoever in this business
Probably true to the worst extent. I imagine that the only noteworthy aspect of this story is that this time they got caught.
Yes, exactly. This is just the time that it got out to the public.
It's about time they were caught. I know for a fact this has happened with Gamespot many times before. Maybe now people will pay attention, from the looks of it right now Gamespot can't back their way out of it. We'll see what happens next.
I gathered (from listening to the PA podcast about Spider-man 3) that Gamespot had done this whole site-integration thing before and yet still savagely reviewed the advertised shitty game. What changed here?
What changed is Eidos complained about what they saw as excessively inflammatory language in Jeff's review. (The text has since been altered, and his video review has been taken down).
In my mind, it played out like this. Eidos went to the top brass at CNET, said we don't like what your boy said about our game, and we're gonna pull our ads if you don't alter his review. Not his score, but some of his language. CNET brass went to Jeff, Jeff laughed in their face and said "fuck off, this is my turf. I say what I like about a game". CNET said, well, sucks, 'cause we pay you, so take a hike. If I were Jeff, i would've walked the minute they even asked me to consider changing my review. So CNET sucked up to their advertising partner and lost not only their best game reviewer and personality, but also all of their credibility as a trustworthy company.
So here is a little different view.
If Jeff decided to not "alter" his review by removing any profanity/language does this paint him in any darker light? Because it's one thing to stand for the truth and honesty.
It's another to be over prideful on your talents though.
I worked for a game publisher once. Let me validate your assumptions right now, that review scores for important games are bought with advertising money from most, if not all, big publications.

How long has it been since PA broke the story?

The only reviews I take seriously are from people whose opinions on games I already know and whose viewpoints I actually give a shit about.
what he is however is funny and entertaining.
i watch his video reviews for games i don't even give a shit about because they are funny.
I don't think he's intended to be taken seriously. He's just hillarious.
