The first thing I notice about Asus LCDs is they tend to not have DVI ports...
Secondly, according to general forum rumour, 22" monitors don't tend to be brilliant quality, better to go for 20" or stretch to 24". Not exactly sure why, although as 22" tend to only have the same resolution as 20", you do get a lower dpi...
Big widescreen monitors are awesome. After using a 20" iMac, using a 15" 4:3 LCD is just horrible now. Not enough screen!

Personally I have a 22" Gateway FPD2275W, and honestly, I love it. Its well known that if someone can complain about something, they will. I run mine at 1680x1050 res and I can't see anything as being low quality about it.
It also has component/composite inputs, and since I don't have a tv that was another selling point.
I can't say much about the ASUS 22", but that's my experience with 22" monitors.
I have a 19" widescreen, and I'll never buy a square screen again. I'm running mine at 1440x900 and loving it. It's great having the extra view area for games.
It's essentially the new VGA. Most modern videocards primary output is DVI anymore, although they usually include a VGA -> DVI adaptor and/or have a VGA port in addition to the DVI port.
For a gaming system I would recommend a monitor with proven low ms. LCDs advertise with all kinds of lagless terms or say their screen only has 2ms, while this is not true in perhaps most cases. There is a thread that keeps pretty up-to-date information on this however. Linky
Look under multimedia monitors (these monitors are good enough for gaming trust me). The recommendations I can give you are the HP w2207 (or the w2007 "20inch) or the LG L226WTQ. A very good choice used to be the Samsung 226bw, but they used different panels (from different manufacturers) on this model and some of the panels could cause lag or the colors were off. So with the 226bw it's a panel lottery.

Is that some sort of HD?
