It's been a while since we had one of this threads, so, to get things started:
FUCK YOU F-ZERO GX, NOW
I AM THE MASTER!
My confidence over my skills was raised a couple weeks ago, after many tries i managed to beat the story mode chapter "save jody", wich consists of escaping trough a long straight tunnel, while dodging blast doors, its easily the second most difficult challenge in the story mode, the game demands absolute perfection, but i managed it and earned an ok ship: the cosmic dolphin.
But now it was time to face the biggest challenge of the game : the F-ZERO Grand Prix stage, the goal is simple: win the race. Piece of cake right?
WRONG, theres a catch: half of the AI machines will cheat trough every orifice, they are faster and have way better boost than you, and they are much more agressive, especially black shadow.
And the track itself is an equal threat, it has ice sections, lots of lava, several sections without safety rails, lots of 90° turns, only 1 pit strip, wich is located on a cork-screw section, so its difficult to cross at high speeds, and the entire course is not very wide, so you will be constantly bumping the other machines.
I have spent time during the last couple days giving it a try, and failing, triying different machine setups, different strategies, perfecting the killing skills, timing the turns, etc, at this point i probably did more than 100 attempts.
The most effective strategy turned out like this:
-Machine settings at top max speed, even at this, you wont catch up to most machines, on pure speed alone.
-Killing or hurting the black bull is a must, i became very good at killing him right at the beggining of the race, but even hurting him is good enough, he got killed several times by the other machines.
-Killing the guys on the back of the pack is not worth it, killing the guys at the front, is very worthy, since they are the ones who cheat the most, but its important not to kill unless its absolutely safe.
-Get the most out of the boost, one before the big jump, 2 after the 1st 90° turn(before the zipper), 1 after the zipper(and before the 2nd 90° turn), 1 before the pit strip and 1 during the pit strip, getting a full recharge is a must.
The rest is luck, plain and simple, sometimes lots of machines died after the first lap, sometimes noone died, sometimes the physics screwed me over, sometimes noone hits the mines, etc.
After an entire afternoon filled with fail and misery, i did it, i beated it on hard, then after another hour and a dozen more attempts, i won on very hard, and earned my new ship: the spider something.
Racing neck to neck against blood falcon, bashing the boost non-stop, beating him by just a milisecond or so, i felt the adrenaline and my heart was pounding, then, fucking victory, and an incredible sense of relief.
TL;DR: i won the 2 most difficult challenges o F-ZERO GX, happiness ensued.
Now, share your tales of pain, and eventual victory.

But it didn't start that way. I must say Tsavo Highway was horrible. Not only do you have to fight waves after waves of brutes (supported by a wraith) at some point, you then have to drive around in a warthog, hoping your stupid teammates will shoot the enemy wraiths and not some imaginary enemy. I retried the part where you have to fight against 3 wraiths and a bunch of choppers so many times, until I remembered I could give my fuel rod gun to the guy riding shotgun. That was a *facepalm* moment, right there.
At least it was smooth sailing from that point onward. Save for the end of The Storm. I curse ye, fuel rod guns wielding brutes!
I curse ye!
Extreme on MGS3:SE.
No Summon/Sphere Grid/Customization on FFX
That's about it, really.
HOLY SHIT! You unlocked EVERYTHING!?!
Those extra levels you get are pretty cool, especially the meteor one.
Now Bionic Commando for the NES... I spent many hours of my youth dying uselessly in that game and a couple months ago I finally managed to beat the game.
You can chump GX like nothing but had problems with Bionic Commando? O_o
That's bizarro-land shit, right there.
Well honestly it wasn't nearly as difficult as I remember it being when I was 8 or so but I'd still rate it as pretty tough. Not battletoads tough, but tough enough to require some effort.
EDIT: Also beat Ninja Turtles as a kid too. Now that game was a bitch. Had I not been a Ninja Turtles fanatic I doubt I would have had the patience to go through the whole thing.
You've gotten further than I have. I haven't even done a quest yet.
On that day, friends, I became a man.

Well, Monk is one of the easier classes to survive throught the game, since you don't need to worry much about armor and weapons.
In comparison, Wizard and Tourists are both pretty freaking difficult classes to use.
Hi5, brother.
On which difficulty?
I am a freaking nerd.
I think the furthest I've been is three levels below the stairs to Sokoban. I've also been all the way through the mines. I only got so far below Sokoban because a stupid gnome with a wand of digging kept leaving me to plummet through holes. I ended up getting destroyed by a Murmak before I could find stairs back up.
In fact, I've lost several character to Murmaks. Mostly in the deeper sections of the mines.
My proudest moment in Nethack was when I had two pets that could shapeshift. They destroyed everything.
My dad has beaten FarCry. Then he went back and beat it on the hardest difficulty.
I'll let you know when I beat it. Say hi to your grandkids by then if I never call again.
XBL Gametag: mailarde
Screen Digest LOL3RZZ
I must have beaten about 20 different characters over the course of 2 weeks. Some of which were double my realm rank.
Ahahah! I remember the first time you posted your story about this! Hahahah.. great stuff :^:
For me, I felt great when I finally beat NightShade (PS2). Then I played it on Hard, and couldn't believe it when I beat it on Hard. That game is awesome. So I played Shinobi (PS2). Whooped the game's ass after gaining so much skill from NightShade. So then I managed to S-Rank most of the levels. That was fun. Hard as hell on Hard though.
Recently I beat Contra 4. This game is fantastic. I love these games because you feel like it's going to be impossible the first time you play. But you keep at it, and eventually... you can beat the game on 1 credit. So awesome.
A great genre for this type of feeling is Shmups. Gradius V and Castle shikigami 2 are my two favorite shmups for this reason.

Elite difficulty. Rebels versus Empire. Mustafar.
At some point during the conflict, I hit the Zone. I killed 137 Stormtroopers without dying. And that was only because I the match ended.
For some reason I thought this said Trauma Center:NGB (Ninja Gaiden Black).
If I ever find the guy who thought "You know what this game needs? Mutants" I will pluck out his eyes and rape him to death via the now empty sockets.
After that, it's on to the guy who designed the checkpoint system in that game. He only loses a few limbs. His choice.
I don't remember exactly how I beat it. In fact, I'm not sure I even did, I think I blacked out from rage after the 38th time cars plowed into the limo from every conceivable direction five seconds into the stage.
Now playing: Teardown and Baldur's Gate 3 (co-op)
Sunday Spotlight: Horror Tales: The Wine
My achievement is beating Timesplitters 2 on hard with a friend. Most frustrating thing either of us have ever done. It took us at least a few months of on and off playing to finally beat the spy level. We just kept getting so pissed off at it. And the robot factory? I'd rather not talk about it. I don't think they even play-tested the final level because it is impossible to finish it with both people alive. If it's not impossible, only a combination of Jesus and God could do it.

My Timesplitters 2 save is up to here on hard, and will likely remain there for a good long time yet.
I don't think I ever beat that song on normal.
I'm no 646, but I still got everything cleared on the Cheer Girl difficulty.
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
As it should. Robot Factory is a soul-shattering experience. The reward for finishing hard isn't even worth the pain. However there is a game hidden there that I've never gotten to play so it may be worth that, but that level requires so much patience to finish even on co-op with double the firepower. It really pissed me off in hard mode that whenever you got armor, you would almost always get immediately pegged in the face so all your armor just vanished.
They giveth and they taketh away.
I thought Atomsmasher was worse, personally, but I'm weird like that.
Huh. I don't remember my friend and I ever having that much trouble with any part of the game, except for the spy level of course. I beat the game solo, too, I'm pretty sure. Been a while though.
F-Zero GX was pretty hard. Never did beat those advanced GPs, though to be honest I never really bothered trying. I beat sotry mode on every difficulty, and that was what I was more interested in.
So basically I'm just a god of gaming.
