Great Games To Play With the Girlfriend

roflgoblinroflgoblin Registered User regular
edited December 2007 in Games and Technology
My girlfriend isn't as big of a nerd as I am, but I'm slowly converting her.

She can't hang in COD4, but she offers great target practice. In the meantime, what other games are great fun to play with a 360 noob like your girlfriend?

So far, we're considering Scene It! Lights, Cameras, Action...

Any suggestions?

My girlfriend and I picked up the Xbox 360 about 2 weeks ago and we've been trying to find quality games to play, so far we've had luck with Rayman Raving Rabbids, Viva Pinata and some of the XBLA titles like Bomberman Live, Lumines, and Super Puzzle Fighter 2.

This. (and many of the other recommendations)

This was one of the first games my friend's wife started playing with us and she loved it. It seems it was a pretty good "gateway game" too, because now she games with us much more often. It's still mostly games like Rock Band or Scene It, but she wouldn't have even given those a shot (well, maybe Scene It) to begin with.

    Obligatory plea for reason:

There is no such thing as a great game for girls, because individual personality matters much, much more than some stereotypical gender bias. Does she like action? Does she like complex stories? Would she prefer something quick she could just pick up and play with you for fifteen minutes? The fact that she's a girl should be irrelevant here, and stressing the point will only lead to the usual faintly condescending "oh, girls like kid's games because they're easy, try Barbie's Horse Adventure!" or "well, women aren't any good at games involving situational awareness, so you'll want to avoid FPS games."

Gaming isn't about gender. I bought my boyfriend Shadow of the Colossus a month or two ago, and we spent a couple of days taking turns playing it. I can kick his ass at Tekken Tag Tournament, but he always wins at Capcom vs. SNK 2. I have a male friend who loves RTS and turn-based strategy games, but can't stand playing first-person shooters, and a female friend who introduced me to Quake back in the day.

Please, don't ask "what games should I play with my girlfriend." It would be like saying "so, I got my brother a PS3 for Christmas, what games should I get him to go with it?" Without the proper context, the question is meaningless, and picking games just because they're simplistic or easy or cute may backfire if she finds them boring.

What genres do you think she would be interested in? What sort of things does she look for in her entertainment? Provide that information, and the answers you get will be much more useful, I guarantee it.

I didn't interpret the question to mean, "What's a great game to play with the girlfriend, who is a girl, and thus we need certain girl-friendly games?"

I interpreted it to mean, "My girlfriend is a really casual gamer. Are there any games that are easy to get into that we can play together?"

It's not like the OP was asking for games that girls like. He was asking for games that a 'noob' would be able to play with him without sucking terribly at it or being unfun.

On the 360, these are the games I've bought for / to play with my Girlfriend.

    Beautiful Katamari
    Raving Rabids
    Viva Pinata
    Lego Star Wars
    Kameo
    Blue Dragon

and her favourite of all games

    Halo 3.

I'm pretty pleased with myself, she never really played any video games other than some N64, and shes now she has a couple 70's in warcraft, and plays Xbox with me. 8-)

Currently my GF adores my new Wii, but looks quite repulsed by the 360 and it's "embarrassing" controller (she doesn't mind the Remote control sitting around the house, but not the 360's).

Obviously I'm currently working on her, but it's a lot, lot harder. It's a much geekier console (which is why I really like it myself obviously). So far I'm thinking Lego Star Wars will work well on the 360, along with GHIII.

I haven't fully explored the Arcade, but I suspect a lot of goodness lies there, Catan especially will go down a treat. Isn;t there a music fireworks game? That should be great too.

I didn't mean to imply that because she was a girl, what simple games would she enjoy. In asking for suggestions, I included the fact that she was my girlfriend along with the details that she was a n00b to the xbox and couldn't hang in COD4.

This thread is more-so suggesting great titles for new comers, in this case my girlfriend, but games that we experienced gamers can enjoy alongside the new comers. So forgive the implication.

Saying that, she's sitting here in front of me playing more COD4. She just knifed someone. lmao.

My ex and I used to have so much fun playing Soul Calibur 2, especially the team battle mode that lets you each pick 8 characters for some really epic battles that even she could win despite being a total newcomer.
