Hello people, it's been a while since I've made a thread here, but now I have a good reason to!
I am now enrolled in the preparatory course or whatever the English term for that is of the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam. I go there every wednesday by train to do art things and increase my odds of getting in. The train trip is two hours either way, which leaves me with lots of opportunities to doodle and do other things.
So now I present to you some of the fruits of my labours on train journeys:
These are simple, unrelated doodles.
The course I'm taking has also motivated me to do more life-drawing:
This is my grandfather.
I've also been brainstorming with Squidbunny about this thing we are hoping to do in webcomic form. It's about Punch-Boy and Kick-Girl, who fight vampire oppressors in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future, along with several allies.
Punch-Boy, who punches:
and Kick-Girl, who kicks:
They ride this guy to get around:
(a bearwolf is a bear with lycanthropy)
There are also other characters, such as Surgery-Boy and Syringe-Girl:
And Vox-Boy and Guitar-Girl:
And Buccanneer-Boy and Pirate-Girl (not pictured):
Also, I am in the process of colouring this:
for Squidbunny because it was her birthday a while back and I promised her that I would totally do a Punch-Boy and Kick-Girl picture for her.
Any comments and crits are welcome.

... some cantankerous bastard would ban me if I put enough <3s to express myself adequately.
The WIP is so excellent.
I still sketch a fair bit, though, but it's mostly nearly unintelligible doodles which I develop later on wednesday or saturday or sunday.
Projeck I want to let you know you will have to face me in 50 successive rounds of bare-knuckle boxing first.
... okay, 40.
How big are the odds of getting in with and without the course anyway? I haven't really looked at how dutch art colleges do it these days.
I have no idea, to be honest, though I didn't take it last year and didn't get admitted (that was actually my own dumb fault for fucking up the entrance exam and stuff)
NOT THIS YEAR, HOWEVER! HA!
There can only be one.
For large quantities of ever.
Not just to asspat: I do think your characters have evolved a lot, and the artwork is always great, but at least in this batch, I don't see a whole lot of foreshortening or perspective work, which I think would snazzy up your art as much as effective inking.
Kick ass and take names, dawg.

Megaman baddies were the first things I had ever sketched when I was little. Good memories.

Seriously though, work on pulling you're inks together. I love your art but it just begs to be smoother/more refined in places. Not losing the energy by making it static, just making it look all intentional, like the last one. The last one is all "I'M INKED. BAMF, PERFECT. FUCK YEAH." The others feel more "I'm Scratchy and unsure!"
If you know what I mean.
I've been doing something that may interest you and Squid but I'd better not spoil it.
I get what you're saying and I agree about the inking on the others. Personally I sort of like the scratchiness, though, but I think that I could make it a more directed scratchiness in the future. They'll probably never get very clean inks, as the train tends to move about a bit, but yeah, they're too sloppy.

Not Gemini Man, I'm afraid, just a generic super robot I drew while experimenting with a Go Nagai-inspired style.
ALSO UPDATE! I coloured Squidbunny's birthday present! The colours look better in real life, and I realize that this makes them seem sort of flat. I will also probably re-do them completely once I get my new tablet, but I still like it a whole bunch!
Pretty nice though, pretty nice.

I'm sure I'll get the hang of it as I do more!
uhhh
your art contains more spunk than most things.
I do also agree about the markers looking flat. It doesn't make the image less awesome, though.
I got an A5, which is about the same as an 6x8.
Here's some more non-tablet stuff I did on the train today.

I already showed it to some people earlier who said that next time I need more contrast and more consistent types of shading, and I agree. Still, I'm very happy with the result.
Also I will probably fix the linework on her left leg. Because it is sort of ew.
i enjoy your coloring. direct me to more of it.
Hey, look! It's my Time Jumper! You owe me five bucks for that, I've decided.
do I really now
I claimed it before you did
you haven't a leg to stand on, legally
I can take the five bucks via PayPal or personal check.
Also, five dollars.
The background is temporary and will be cleaned up in the future.
EDIT: The scarf is a colored a little weird, it should probably have more of flat contour
... did we fight in the same Round 7? Or the same tournament, for that matter?
You know that made perfect sense when I posted it yesterday XD
You've made me a very happy man this day.
