So, I decided to whip out the game after not playing it for far too long. Only I can't seem to play it. It gave me no trouble installing, yet it seems to forget where the disc went when time comes to run the game. Any suggestions?
I was kinda paranoid that I would be accused of piracy. Any claim I could make to the contrary would only carry as much honorable weight as my own reputation here, which isn't exactly superb. Needless to say, I do have the disc, but it's been with me for a while so it could just be defective in some small way (If this problem would be considered small, anyway)
I honestly don't remember if this problem came up when I played it before, as it's been a couple of years (or more) since I first picked it up. So I'll try this out. Thanks.
I'll check this out, thanks.
Edit: Fassive Mailure. Now I'm getting a new error message altogether. It seems that replacing the exe file with the alternative from the webpage has caused further errors and the game won't even get as far as I got before.
I had the same sort of problems with the original Homeworld... I could install the game from my DVD-ROM drive, but when I tried to start it it'd ask me to insert the disc. I event went as far as to remove my other drives to try to get it working, but nothing seemed to help. I ended up creating a disc image with Alcohol 120%, mounting it with daemontools and using that to start the game. Once the game was started it'd start reading from the disc again and I could unmount the image.

(and because the homeworld series is awesome and nobody should be denied.)
