Okay, we all remember downloading the original grand theft auto that was around 10 megs ... it was the best of the series ... don't you agree? and if you do or don't tell me why playa'
my favorite was cornering a city block and seeing how long and far i could go without getting caught. i know it's senseless but it made sense at the time.
r u nuts? you never played GTA 1 on the PC? come on man ... download it right now, it's free and small and no i don't work for rockstar ... but it is one of my favorites. and after u do that apply for beta on join titan strike... then ur set, oh no wait ... don't forget to order 10 large dominoes pizzas with extra cheese and extra pepperonia!
GTA1 has some serious flaws. Limited lives. One shot kills you instantly, unless you find one of a handful of bulletproof vests, in which case 3 shots kill you. Vests and weapons do not respawn. It takes 1 to 2 hours to beat a level before you can save.
That said, it was enormous fun. I think they fixed a lot of my gripes in GTA2, though.

Running over the hari kristners (sorry I spelt that incorrectly) was always fantastic.
Yes, GTA2 was the shit. The Redneck Gang was the best.
Has anyone else ever completed all the missions for all three gangs in a city, and then observed the completer and utter chaos that results afterwards?

GTA2 was awesome. I remember getting into all kinds of areas you weren't supposed to get into on the original using the "park a bus against something and then slide under it" bug.
The original GTA was brilliant. I remember playing the demo to death. It was one of these time-limited demos with a 300 sec limit. Me and uncle would compete to see who could rack up the most points (i.e. cause the most destruction) within the time limit.
I also got GTA2 the day it was released, and it was great...but still GTA1 will always be the one i think of when i get nostalgic.
I remember you could have the game play whatever was in your cd drive for the music in the game. I always had Antichrist Superstar in my drive, so it got the point that I forgot that Marilyn Manson wasn't the official music for the game.
Marilyn Manson and GTA, like something out of Jack Thompson's nightmares.
And lest we forget...

But, if you are after mere parlor tricks, you will be sorely disappointed. For if I reach behind your ear, it will not be a nickel I pull out, but your very soul!
While I cannot stand the single player modes in any of them, gta2 lan games were absolutely amazing. Especially fun were the flamethrower duals in the middle of four-way intersections.

I loved the single player in GTA2. The third city map where you round up people via buses for the Russians and make them into hotdogs is the best thing I've ever seen.
I never finished either, but I loved both of them. And couldn't get into any of the 'proper' 3d ones; always got bored after a couple of hours.
And yeah, the first game's demo had the same "just one more try!" quality that the Carmageddon demo had. A friend of mine and myself had Scarface competitions, where we tried to rack up as high a cop kill count as possible before either being taken down or the time running out.
The only real flaw was when you got yourself a nice fast car, since GTA 1 & 2 only showed the overhead view you had to have the reaction times of a Formula 1 racing car driver to avoid other cars and walls, plus a memory of every single road helped too.

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
I had loads of fun with GTA 1 back when it was released. The soundtrack was pretty amazing, and I never got very far just 'cause I drove around annoying cops.
How did that country song go again? "men folk find 'em women scary 'cause they were so big and hairy"

I have GTAIII for PC ...does anyone know if it will work with a 360 gamepad?
Also, the PC version wasn't 10mb.
Also, it wasn't available for download.
edit: I figured it out, after doing a bit of checking. The OP pic is from the GBA port of the game.
Still a terrible OP, for the aforementioned reasons.
Original GTA looked like this:

No, but the demo for it was.
Yeah, I was gonna say. 10MB is incredibly small. Even for a game that was released several years ago.
Congratulations on not checking to see if your hotlinked imaged work, you lazy bandwidth thief.

GTA2 is where it's at.
No matter how many GTAs come out, this is what will always come to mind when I think GTA
