I want to see one of the candidates shout "Yo quiero Taco Bell!" at an inappropriate moment.

Wow, when the Dem debate happened, all of the Republican candidates had refused to do the Univision debate. I wonder what happened? Maybe they took a headcount, and discovered that there's a decent possibility that a huge generally anti-gay, pro-life group might be a good source for Republican votes?
That is, if they can convince them that "we hate fucking Mexicans" isn't actually part of their platform.

Latinos are pretty conservative so I'm sure the Republicans are trying to get as many of their votes as possible. And not all those that speak Spanish are from Mexico either, duh!
Actually Latinos are more liberal, Cuban demographics tend to vote more for Republicans but this information I got when I was looking into politics in late 90s.
Also the host for the news coverage are Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena since they did the Democratic debate.

Latinos tend to vote Republican, but they maintain a lot of social conservative positions. They vote Dem mainly because A) the Dems pander to the lower class, in which a lot of first- and second-gen Latinos exist, and the Pubs are busy yodeling "Dey took'r jorbs!" Probably the latter, mostly.
If the Pubs actually cared, I think they could rally a fair bit of Latino support with comparatively minor changes in their stances.

There's also the whole "we keep pissing demographics off, we're going to be fucked shortly" aspect as well, Than.

Except, Jeffe, that would require the GOP to, you know, not be racist. Seriously, the same arguments are made about the black community - socially conservative, fiscally minded - on paper, they look like the model Republican constituency. Yet the black community is pretty much solidly Democratic. And that's all thanks to how the GOP actually treats blacks.

Well, it doesn't hurt that the Dems make it sound as if they would pass legislation for reparations in a heartbeat if not for those damned Pubbies. In both cases, it's partly because of cynical pandering to unsavory groups by the Pubs, and partly because of cynical pandering to token hot-ticket items by the dems.

Damn this thread. I tuned in just now thinking I was late for the debate and I get... oh, who the hell knows. It's Univision.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.

"we hate fucking Mexicans" is part of the platform though. They just need to get the message out that they're the homophobe party and the Catholic church will start lining them up (why do you think that the church is starting to make voting for Republicans a moral imperative?)

I doubt there's much about 'I hate you and want to drive your people into the sea' that would get lost in translation.

also, Rudy seemed like a giant dickhead to the moderator for not translating his question
