The first complete shooter for the Wii is finally here. I've never been a big fan of Medal of Honor, but when I heard about the online mode for this thing, I came running. Thirty-two players can be on one server at the same time; absolutely beautiful. I haven't had it long, but I've definitely had fun from what I've played so far. The only thing I would change about it is the spawn points for TDM (they tend to toss you into the middle of the battlefield at times) and voice support. Nintendo honestly needs to come out with a mic peripheral for the Wiimote, possible a modified Nunchuck with a headset on it. That's really the only thing holding back the system's online games.
It's a wonder the Allies were able to win WWII when these Axis soldiers can take so many shots to the head...
Good to see another PA player - I've been playing the game 1-2 hours almost every day, mostly playing in TDM matches in city, monastery, or base using the BAR/SGT44 or Thompson/MP40.
Also, on the note of rating, how does the server population seem to be? Enough to justify purchasing the game solely for the multiplayer?
I am just wondering, not because I would actually do such a horrible thing, because I'd like to scope out the game before hand. I absolutely love the Zapper compatibility and the on-rails business.
I think we already have a thread for this game....
Anyway, I fully plan on getting this. It shall be a Christmas present.
Between the single player campaign, the Arcade rails shooter bonus game, the multiplayer, the fact that the controls are perfect, and the fact that the game is polished and runs at a smooth and constant 60 frames per second has me sold on it.
It seems to be a fair amount of stuff for $50. I really just want to try out the controls. I loved COD3s and of course MP3C's. These are supposedly even better. Plus, link's CBT and ghost squad have gotten me back into the 'rails shooter' mood and I'm looking forward to Arcade mode. Lastly, I've always wanted to try multiplayer using Wii controls, to see how I stack up against others using the Wii controls. I think I'm pretty good, but we'll see.
Oh man, I played MOH online on my computer for years! COD3 was the only FPS I got for my wii, Ill wait to see what more PA people say about this game before I get it.
Way too many games out this fall but maybe at the start of the new year. How are the controls? The only shooter I've tried was Red Steel. The game itself (graphics story etc..) were awful but the controls are actually fun. How is turning handled? Do you turn or strafe with the stick? I'm glad to hear that they changed the iron sights from a wiimote motion to a button. Pushing forward for iron sights is a pain in Red Steel.
For those of you that own the game: does it have 4-player split-screen multiplayer? That's the one thing that would finally push me over the edge to buy it.
Is the multiplayer just deathmatch and team deathmatch or does it have objective based CTF or point capture stuff?

Only DM, TDM and CTF.
And you can't change the button layout, though the sensitivity for aiming and turning as well as the bounding box can be tweaked to any degree imaginable. You can make it can control like any other FPS on the Wii that tickled your fancy.
For those of you who asked, no, it doesn't have a split screen multiplayer. It's strictly online, which is really a shame.
If I had to rate it out of 10, I'd give it a 7. It's got great controls, acceptable graphics, a variety of weapons and huge, non-laggy servers. However, the exclusion of voice chat in an online game automatically drops the score to a nine in my book (that's the system's fault though), the targeting recticle on most of the weapons is a little too big for my liking as you can't aim very precisely (guess that's supposed to emulate realism) and the game has a tendency to spawn you in the heat of a gunfight sometimes.
Seems like the controls are the biggest topic of interest. They're very, very precise. I'm in agreement with powersurge that the controls were pretty good on Red Steel and I feel that this game actually surpasses them in that you're not going to catch yourself spinning in circles at any time. In comparison to Metroid Prime 3, I would actually say they're better because you can turn faster. They're basically identical otherwise.
In regard to specific actions:
You flick your controller to reload
You designate a spot with B and then flick your controller to toss a grenade
You rotate the controller to adjust the sniper scope and can lock it with C
You put the controller upside down on your shoulder in order to scope with the bazooka
You thrust the Nunchuck and Wiimote forward to melee (or Z, but what's the fun in that?)
If you hold down A to aim, you can lean out of cover by tilting the Nunchuck.
Phew! That looks like a lot when I actually write it down... Anyway, it's definitely a must-have for the Wii at this point.
Depending on how you set up the controls, you can turn 180 even faster than using a mouse.
Course, if you're not used to such speed and sensitive control, you might just get motion-sickness instead. :P
I prefer the sub machine guns more than the close range machine guns so I usually set the sensitivity only at half the bar - I usually don't need to turn that fast since I like to kill people at medium range.

Also, a bunch of people around here bought it at the B2G1Free deal at TRU back when the game was released.

Everyone, -everyone-, is saying that this game is the best controlled FPS on the Wii, and that it even manages to control better than Metroid Prime 3.
And that the controls are highly customizable.
