So guys... I suck at this game. I need some tips. Especially with the shot gun, I can never kill someone with that thing unless they're already close enough to knife me, and even at that range it's a little iffy. I think my problem in general is that I treat the game too fast paced, and I always sprint and never check where I'm going, and then I dive in to an enemy nest and find I have lot more holes in my stomach than I did before.

Extreme Conditioning and a shotgun is no fun to fight against. You just can't catch them and when you figure out where they are they are already gone and probably right behind you.

I should have been more specific... Unless I'm playing with the PA guys, I'm playing in HQ mode which forces some mobility, and less snipers.

Wetwork is good for HQ (even tho its fucking buggy with the spawn points) and shipment is just fun mowing people down. Airstrike!

Is anyone else disappointed that there aren't any pistol challenges? I'd like an excuse to run around with just a pistol. Capping bitches.

Shipment is only fun when the there are less than six players total in the map. After than it's just nade spam nade spam nade spam ad nauseum.

Doc is right about the PC servers: admins set the maximum player count way too high and the maps essentially break. It becomes either 1) grenade spamming/airstrike explosion fests, 2) a game where 50% of the players camp and the other 50% gives them points, 3) both. If you like that sort of stuff, great. I get tired of it real fast.

I just had a quick session of games and killed two guys within 2 seconds using the knife. I had the sniper rifle equiped and they just popped out round the corner out of the alleyway in downpour. The first guy MUST have seen me but I just instinctively knifed him and I guess the guy immediately behind him didn't see me because the first guy was in the way. VIVE LE KNIFE!

Have you tried a "stealth" load with a shotgun?

Shotty (I like the one you unlock
    Grip
    UAV Jammer
    Extreme Conditioning.
    Silenced Pistol.

You don't need stopping power because the shotgun packs enough punch, and you don't need to worry about a silencer in THIS loadout because the only time you'll really be firing your main gun is when you're killing someone or about to die.

Sneak around an unguarded flank, pop someone in the back, and just disappear

I remapped my knife key to E because I never use lean. The first match I went into I got 4 knife kills.

I am thinking about putting the lean keys back on and putting knife in another easy to reach location. Mouse Wheel up maybe? Or wheel click?

The problems I have with the shotgun are mostly seeing someone at short-to-middle distance and firing and not even getting the 'damage confirmation' x, or even better looking down the sights, missing, and blinding myself with insane amount of shit that's spewed out of the mouth.

I find myself more and more just using the silenced AK, which is often quite boring to be honest.

edit: Is it just the way I aim? What should I be holding my crosshairs over?

Incidentally is it just me or are the sniper rifles crazily inaccurate (on the 360)? I've held my crosshairs over an unmoving person's chest and fired and missed far too many times to count.

Suposedly there is a patch coming that fixes this. I noticed a new playstyle listed on the menu tonight, which seems to indicate a patch, but they don't seem to be fixed.

I snipe all the time on the 360, I don't really know what people complain about, got ACOG's on all sniper rifles this time and my last time thru prestige mode. That said I hate that the bullets don't go where the reticle is if your breath is not held and your gun completely still, but you learn to work with it. Just you HAVE to hold your breath, and you have to wait for you guy to completely stop breathing, which is not the second you click the analog stick. So just stay behind your cover till your screen is completely still then turn and pop some heads.

Also about those knife kills, we were playing Overgrown earlier this morning and I got a 10 kill spree without shooting once, 5 knife kills and 5 from airstrike/chopper support. I should have had 6 knife kills, but it went thru the guys back then someone else saw me while I was recovering from my missed attempt.

First off, don't sight the shotguns, they actually spread more when you do that. Second, if you want to be able to hit someone further out, use stopping power.

For the sniper rifles, that just happens, it's really frustrating, but you just have to deal with it. It shouldn't happen all the time though.

Shottys spread more when you shoulder fire them? So how does steady aim affect the hip fire accuracy? Even less spread?

Yeah, they spread more, you can test it out by yourself in a private match. As far as I can tell steady aim just reduces recoil.

    I did misunderstand, I apologize.
Somehow, I never took the time to melee as a last stander. Although I notice people melee a lot less on the PC version. Theres less of a forward lunge with the melee than the 360 version. Even so next time I'm laying on the ground with my pistol, in some high foliage, I will try to get that knife kill. I'm sure it feels amazing.

    Question to Hardcore players:
What perks do you liek for the M16? Stopping power is useless on hardcore servers and so is juggernaut. I put sonic boom on if I have the 203 attached.
Does double tap do anything for the m16? I can't notice a direct difference.

Good 8 hour session there PA crew, rollin that full party action for victory.

I started working on the G3 and Saw tonight, at first it was difficult but I've come to love the G3 and the Saw I'm not sure how to use effectively, pretty much just use it to tear through walls on Crash. I tend to do better aiming fast with the iron sights or just hip shotting than taking the time to sight with a red dot so I've gotten rid of those.

I don't see much use for stun nades or rpgs, maybe for downing helos but it seems heavy fire on the rear rotor brings em down just as fast.

Kill death ratio needs alot of work but I notice my accuracy is up there compared to most so I guess that means I pick my shots too often or don't look around enough to spray and pray, once I unlock the P90 I'm sure that will change.

I've learned all the maps now so its fairly easy to get lockdowns going on spawns and run train on enemy crews with a coordinated full party of our own. I imagine this will only improve with time.

I think THE KEY to success is using and pimping out your force multipliers- the MVPs that bring in the bacon of UAVS, AirStrikes and Helos, by watching thier backs and letting them do their job racking kills. Assigning some body guards and establishing clear defensive lines will help there.

So I bought this last night off of STEAM and I gotta say, It'd be fun if I could actually START the game. Everytime I try to load the game I get the initial splash screen, then everything goes black and then the .exe stops responding. This happens for Single Player and Multi-player.

I've checked all the FAQs and changing to 800x600 and dropping back sound card hardware acceleration does nothing.

Any ideas? I have help tickets into STEAM and Activision but I am impatient.

And my PC runs Witcher at all high and Crysis at pretty high, so I've got the rig for the game.

Had to jet again last night. I don't particularly care for Guitar Hero III. It's a nice distraction. But it comes in handy. Me or friends of mine can go to a bar, approach some hotties, make small talk, and go, "Hey, I have Guitar Hero III at the house. You guys wanna come rock out?" Or, in last night's case, "My buddy has Guitar Hero III. We can go rock out at his place if you girls are getting bored here."

Schwing. I might even upgrade to Rock Band so we can get more than two at a time.

    Any way.

RPD = God on Hardcore. Eh, not so much on other game types. It's great if they're 10 - 20 feet in front of you, but once some range comes into play, it's more for backup than anything else. Got it paired with an AK at the moment, so I should be set.

I really wanna replace my G3 with the M14, but I'll have to use a red dot on the M14. I just can't see through it's iron sights for some reason.

LIES! LIES AND SLANDER!!! I love my RPD, regardless of map type. If you get the grip and single shot the RPD, you can pick off snipers from stupid distances. I love it, more so than the M60 because it has better iron sights.

I started using the G3 in Hardcore last night, works pretty well. Might keep using it. Does anyone know if its a single shot kill without Stopping Power in Hardcore?

Good sirs, I think we all know that the RPD pales in comparison to the M60e4. awesome damage, decent accuracy, and plus grip, it omgwtfpwns. Really awesome gun.

The G3 is instant kill in the chest on hardcore. But that's the only reason why you'd ever use that gun. In non-hardcore games, the single fire really doesn't hold well vs a sniper rifle.

More wrong. Check the accuracy on the G3 and compare it to a sniper rifle. There's a reason why I countersnipe w/G3 and M16.

This kinda goes for any gun, but I've found it to be definitive w/the G3: Its as good as its user. I can headshot with it from across the map, or do CQB. It will be as good as you need it to be. So accurate, too. And with Stopping Power, it's a 1-hit-1-kill gun.

Managed to find a HC game of search and destroy (or was it sabotage, can never remember what the difference is) last night, which had Wet Works in the rotation, this time though there were only 5/6 people on each side.

That game was much more fun than I am used to, people actually trying to slink around rather than blindly throwing grenades - I might have to reconsider my opinion on that map.

Found a few 'tactical realism' servers as well that seemed to have some pretty strong (but fair) admins on them and they were great - no bunny hopping allowed, no nade spam, no airstrikes/helos for the first 30 seconds of a map etc etc. I think I will stay on those servers when I am not trying to complete challenges as I am too old for the 'let's charge around aimlessly and die every 10 seconds' setups. All I need to work on is to stop firing from the hip when I get surprised (not allowed on the servers) - did it a couple of times last night when I was a bit too tired to concentrate fully and got a warning for it so I thought I had better logoff before I screwed things up more.

When the hell are we getting our mod kits? I need to make some custom maps. I need to play custom maps. I need my awesome SP mods! Please the community is HUGE for PC on COD4 right now. WE NEED IT!

Oh and I agree with most PC servers having wayyyy too high a player count. Just find a few servers to be a regular at with a lower player count/or only big maps. Also find a server with regular admins if you do hardcore, people come in, turn on martydom, and shoot anyone without a name above them. Fucking morons, I swear.

I we could just have a filter on our server browser for hardcore. Then set the default to no hardcore, wed get less nublings. Not to mention make it easier to find hardcore.
