This game is the best MMO I have ever played.

I think the last competitive FPS I ever played semi-seriously was Quake II, but I spent about two hours playing multiplayer yesterday. I'm still quite new (rank 12 now), but I opened up some of the challenges and I'm really impressed with the way the game slowly spreads itself open as you rank up. There's a ton of options but I'm learning about them all piece-by-piece and it's not intimidating at all. And of course I'm now addicted to completing challenges and gaining experience -- such a Pavlovian setup but it works so freaking well. Unlocked the red dots on my AK47, M16 and MP5 (I think, the first SMG you have access to) and I just kept going back for more. And the controls work well (I'm on 360), so I'm getting used to the higher sensitivity.

I got a few invites last night, and sorry I couldn't join in but pretty often I play 1v1 with a buddy of mine who doesn't really like team DM and more prefers close-encounter fragging and shivving. But any other time I'm more than down to play with people who don't blare bad rap across Live!

1v1? That sounds like it would get boring. Fast. You need to invite him to some bigger games as they are a blast in this game.

Also, sweet games last night. I hit a personal best last night with a 59 kill, 10 assist game. Sure helped my K/D ratio. I'll probably be down for some more this afternoon, but might go see a movie tonight.

M16 w/ ACOG or AK with nothing for the win!

It's a damn shame I'm spending like two weeks back home without LIVE access, or else I'd be tearing up some COD4. Maybe I'll go to my friend's house with my HDD tonight.

I never really thought I'd say it, but I am loving the online multiplayer in this game. I've just been sticking to free for alls and have been having a blast. I'm not usually to into this stuff, but CoD4 just seems right.

Although I probably should have got it for the 360. I mean really, there was no reason not to - the vast majority of the people posting here play on a 360. I guess I just wanted to pad my PS3 game count.

Tried a couple FFA games last night, had been avoiding them before that because I prefer more objective style games, but I found I was enjoying the fast pace of the HC FFA mode, and it's by far the best way to go to complete challenges.

I even managed, quite by accident, to complete the challenge for killing someone by throwing a grenade in their face - not throwing a grenade, having it explode and killing them that way, but throwing a grenade so hard that it kills them before it explodes.

    I felt like Chuck Norris.

I'm going to go on a rant here for a minute: Why the hell isn't prestige mode on the PC? Every single server I go to has the same god damned scenario: 26 people with level 55, 6 people with level 2 because they just started. Rank doesn't mean a god damned thing WHEN EVERYONE IS THE SAME FUCKING RANK. It seems that it would amazingly simple to implement, and would offer more depth and variety for pc gamers. This is a major oversight and is starting frustrate me.

I don't think PC needs a prestige mode. Just start a new profile. I did another one just to see how fast I could get to 55. The only difference is you don't get the "special" insignia or whatever.

Plus you get the satisfaction of kicking some 55's ass with your level 15 newb.

Indeed. Since you get the M16 red dot as like your first accomplishment, you already have one of the best weapons in the game right when you start. It's not like it really cripples you; it just limits your choices. I like that a lot.

Also, does anyone besides me refuse to use camo on their weapons?

What does the prestige mode do? Don't have it on console.

Just got a 16 kill streak. :) I like that when for example, I need like 1 or 2 kills for airstrike/heli, I stop being rambo and start being careful. :o
Too bad that the "items" don't reset after heli, so when you get your 10th kill, you wont get a radar again. :(

I've been using pretty much just assault rifles and submachine guns (M4 and MP5, mostly) since I started playing, so last night I tried a shotgun class (Bleh!) and a sniper class. The sniper class is fun, but goddamn the maps are tight for sniping. Definitely requires you to remain mobile.

I got XFire last night finally. I usually play with a couple friends of mine, but if any of you are so interested, my username is novacollision.

I hated the shotguns the first time I tried them. "WTF is this?!" I cried. Then I tried it on Domination with Extreme Conditioning, Juggernaut, and a smoke grenade. Now it's my most favorite thing ever.

Also, the "other" SMGs (not the MP5 or P90) are way more fun than I thought they'd be, especially if you kit out with RPGs or something and Sonic Boom.

The first time I tried the automatic Shotgun on Xbox360 t took me 3 games to do all the kill chalnges, not the headshots but normal kills. 3 Rounds. I'm pretty sure I was the first person to use them on Live aswell cause I never used to see people do it and I started using SG's within the first week of the game being out. It's still one of my favorite things ever, but I love sniping too much to use it often now-a-days.

And I really don't get why everyone loves that first sniper rifle so danm much, sure its better than the .50 cal, but its the 2nd worse in my opinion. For bolt actions the R700 is where its at it drops everyone in 1 round w/ stopping powewr unlike that first rifle which only kills 1/2 the people I shoot in 1. For semi-automatic snipers both M21 and Dragunov kick serious ass. Dragunov will often kill in 1 w/ stopping power as body shots but has more recoil than the M21 whiuch is smooth as butter.

If I spawn as Marines on Crossfire that building is the first one I unload onto - there is *always* someone hunkered down there.

Just like the building at the top of the hill usually has 3 or so 'snipers' in it.

Sounds like corrupted assets Try re-downloading from Steam. If that doesn't work I'd guess that it's a failure to initialize a rendering context, in which case try reinstalling DirectX and your drivers. If that doesn't work, back up a driver version or two.

    Keep me posted.

I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Well cause I know you're all waiting for an update. I have uninstalled COD4, redownloaded it, verified the files through Steam and it still didn't work. I have installed ATI drivers from 7.9 to 7.12. I have reinstalled DirectX and the DotNet Framework for craps and giggles, still no solution.

Steam not so surprisingly told me to contact Activision, Activision even more not surprising still has yet to get back to me. I hate this fucking game and I've never played it.

edit: I've also verified the video files which I assume would play at the beginning load fine using Rad Tools. Not sure what else to do.

I love the MP5 myself. Before I started doing prestige mode, I was running with: Silenced MP5, silenced pistol (the third one, forget what it is), Bandolier, UAV Jammer and Dead Silence. The only downside is the silenced mp5 by itself can need a bit of ammo to take someone down.

I think Dead Silence is really underrated. Not so much because other people can't hear you run around, but every time YOU hear something moving you know to be on the look out.

Yeah, I've manually checked for updates on Steam and I don't have X-Fire. I've read some forum reports that changing ur language helps. I changed it to Spanish, and now it's pretty much downloading from 10% on. Maybe despite deleting and re-downloading twice, it didn't fully dl? I dunno. Trying everything at this point. I'm a bit late to the party on this one. Finally got it for my 360, and played through the SP campaign in a night...

I'm just wondering, what did everyone else think of it? I found myself alternating between extreme boredom and extreme frustration; not exactly great feelings to have towards a game. Mind you, I bought it for the multiplayer (which I know won't disappoint), but I still feel a little let down.

So am I alone in this (and totally crazy), or do some people agree? :|
