On one of the Geth outposts in the... early-four-systems-have-outposts-in-the-same-quadrant area. On the snowy world, I keep getting utterly destroyed by the Colossus and half-dozen missile troops. The Mako's too useless to go in, and there's no good hiding or cover spots that I've found in a few tries.
Am I missing something? Too low level? Does the Mako ever get upgrades to "not useless"?
I still feel like I'm doing something very wrong.
You do know what the right bumper does, right?
Because there are a rather disturbing number of people who don't and somehow beat colossi with just the machinegun.
Otherwise I would suggest what I tend to do.
Which is either A) find a decent bit of cover that my turret can see over from a distance.
Or just keep weaving in and out of cover as you shoot it.
Or, C), kill all of the smaller geth first, then smack the mako into the colossus, get out, and just fill it with lead while it struggles to get out from under your tank.
I've searched the thread and haven't seen any mention of the Shadow Broker. It seems pretty obvious to me now, that Sovereign was this Shadow Broker. Am I the only one thinking this? Or is it so "duh" that everyone knows this by now.
I think that's a possibility, but it hasn't been revealed for certain.

I think it's probably not, but if the prothean VI was correct, it is possible if Sovereign was scouting out the Citadel for hundreds of years.
Well, I was going to go for a third playthrough, get the Extreme Power Gamer Achievement on Insanity, and then start over with a Vanguard, but my 360 decided to shit all over me. Getting a coffin for it next week. Thinking about tracking down an Elite and then just selling the system they send to me on eBay.
I beat this game and I'm on my second playthrough, but...
Did anyone else feel that there really isn't that much of a story here for this first installment?
I felt that it was somewhat shallow and drawn out with needless fetch quests (Survery, tags, writings, etc).
I've never known Bioware to skimp on story, but it seems to me that they have this time.
The setting is great. But the majority of the characters that I have interacted with are bland and boring.
It's a first for me in a Bioware game where I feel like I really don't care what happens to any of the party members.
Try that on Insanity. It takes forever to kill them with the Mako, god knows how long it would take on foot.
I killed one on foot with an assault rifle at level 54.
It took a few minutes of continual fire with the Spectre VII assault rifle. I was hiding behind a rock outcropping thing where it couldn't see my but I could shoot a small piece of its body and a couple of legs.
I'm pretty sure if it can shoot back, you're not quite guaranteed to die on insanity, but it will take so long that your chances of doing it successfully are pretty slim. Well, at least your squad might not survive.

You're not the only one, but you're probably one of the only ones in the thread.
I'll admit that it was somewhat deficient in areas where BioWare used to excel and you can still see shining through in Mass Effect, but I can't help but feel that the game is too short on real main story-centric content compared to some of their other games and seeing as how there's only enough character developing dialogue to span the main story missions, regardless of whether or not you're doing enough uncharted worlds and side quests to open up the dialogue without doing the story missions, it feels like it's too short. Things happen between you and other characters way too fast and seem really sudden.
I thought the same for Jade Empire, which was just too short for any real compelling character development. That said, I still enjoyed the characters in ME and got very attached to them, but they never felt as developed as they should have been.
I'd love to see BioWare go back to the BG2 approach where there's tons of character developing dialogue and if you rush through the game, you're definitely not going to see it all, but if you want to take your time and spend the time with the game's characters, there's a plethora of content to be seen.

Don't get your hopes up, Pancake. Considering what I've read on the Bio boards, David Gaider still have nightmares about how overwhelming Baldurs Gate 2 was for him. Long RPG's aren't profitable enough apparently, so the chances to see an RPG in the same caliber as BG2 is pretty low. Which is a fucking shame since the Baldurs Gate games are some of my favourite series. Hell, it was my gateway into DnD.

I didn't say it was likely or that I think it will happen. I said I'd love to see it.
And I would. And it won't.
Really, it's not the length. I think ME's length is fine. It could have used more of its game time doing more interesting things like more story planets with more quests, but I never felt it was too short. The same for KotOR.
It's just that Jade Empire and Mass Effect suffered for their length in a way that KotOR did not. KotOR had plenty of dialogue with your party, romantic interests or not. JE and ME both have characters developed to a far lesser degree and they aren't really as engaging and interesting as a result and many people seem to find themselves caring about them far less than they could have.
They both just feel too short to accomplish what they want to with the characters and ME really is only a few hours shorter than KotOR for most people's first playthrough. And I can easily finish KotOR in 15 hours while hitting every bit of dialogue with my party members and it's far more than is present in ME for each individual character.
Doing my second playthrough on hardcore as a new adept with Tali and Liara in my party. Besides the dreams of hot alien threesomes, we also kick ass by rendering enemies helpless with biotics and tech and pewpewing them to death with our puny pistols while their guns overheat or their shields explode or they're tossed about in a whirlwind of crates and bodies.
An odd melee-related thing happened on Noveria today.
The fight with those geth and krogan when you get to peak 15 was about almost done and Liara was dead, I was fine and Tali was at low health. the only guy left is the krogan on the balcony with about half health, so since the rest of my biotics were on cooldown I singularity him from about halfway down the hallway retreating to help Tali, but he is pulled over the balcony rail, falls, gets up, and charges her. I sprint down, hoping she doesn't bite it before I get there, when all of a sudden I hear a body fall and a noise that sounds suspiciously like a krogan death rattle, and Tali walks around the crate and shouts "Coast is clear, commander!"
I'm thinking I may have missed a codex entry that explains that quarians are FUCKING NINJAS that can take down a berserk krogan with their bare hands.
Haha, that's awesome. Tali would always die on me, much like Garrus is getting destroyed on my current Hardcore run.
My level 12 Adept with Garrus and Wrex get owned by almost any combat. Am I doing something wrong? I had to leave Noveria because I couldn't get past the end of the tower. Hold down the fort for me, Fai Dan!
I'm regretting all my Intimidation points, but it doesn't seem like I'm being retarded with my point distribution. There's just not enough points yet. Now I'm doing all the talking quests on the Citadel and hope that I can get enough levels to make me better.

Did you pimp out Wrex with shotgun and barrier? Garrus with 100% sniper rifles?
Wrex with barrier will never die and sniper Garrus will kill everything on the planet before you can.
Obviously he didn't because he's still low level at the moment.
I suggest exploring space as much as possible. Survey every planet in every system you can (and searching for moons and asteroids while you're at it). Gives a healthy boost to your level in the early stages.
I put a lot into Barrier with Wrex, but I guess not enough, and I don't think Shotgun or Sniper has even been unlocked for them yet. I'm putting points into their weapons, but I wanted to be able to open boxes to Garrus has a lot of decryption and I thought Barrier and Krogan Battlemaster were important.
And my best power right now is Throw because I wanted to unlock Lift. I want Singularity, but that would be two levels straight into Warp before I even unlock it, and I don't know if I can afford that, since Warp sucks ass.
Haha, that's awesome. Tali would always die on me, much like Garrus is getting destroyed on my current Hardcore run.

What difficulty are you on? And what parts of Noveria were giving you trouble? I found giving everybody appropriate ammo upgrades (armor-piercing or antipersonnel) as well as my best gear in general and almost exclusively using my biotics helps a ton. At first I tried to play too much like my Vanguard, charging with a shotgun (my bonus talent) with the occasional biotic. Adepts don't seem to be that great at first anyways, though, until you get enough cooldown reducers (armor upgrade, skill points, biotic amps) and better powers like singularity and lift. The main focus of a adept is to keep an opponent off their feet and not shooting at you. Staying behind cover, using stasis, throw, lift etc. The damage from your pistol or warp or other abilities is secondary, especially if you have combat heavy allies like garrus and wrex. just use your biotics strategically and often, and give your squad a few commands (focus on one enemy, use overkill, etc.) and pick the best gear from what you have picked up. Leaving and leveling will probably help too, you'll level quickly and you can refocus your placement. I'd go for throw or lift and singularity. you could level up barrier too, so you can get at least one point in stasis and you'll be better protected from weapons fire.

If you have decent weapons then throw will do you more good then most of the other powers. Throw + weapon fire = dead bad guy almost always.
It sounds like you are just rushing too much. Hang back and engage enemies on your own terms. Don't just rush into a group and try to take them down. Move Wrex and Garrus up first before running in. Try picking off the weaker targets first and then focus on the painful ones. Also try to get a feel for the attack patterns of the enemy types, Krogans will always try to death charge you when they are almost dead (insert a push then for the win), the larger Geth types will do the same so treat them the same as Krogans, for snipers either try to outsnipe them if you have a sniper rifle or sprint and use cover to run up to them.
Just take it slow and you should come out on top every time. After all it's better to spend an extra minute being careful in battle then getting fuck over by a death that puts you back an hour.
Haha, that's awesome. Tali would always die on me, much like Garrus is getting destroyed on my current Hardcore run.

My Wrex never uses shotgun - he sticks to assault rifles. If I level his shotguns up will he start using them?
I've been pretty much making my Tali a beast with machines and my Wrex a nice companion for anything alive. My sniping is maxed out, so I'll send Wrex in to draw fire and take out people with his warp and assault rifle, while Tali and I stay back. Tali will disable all enemy weapons while I'll just sit back and pick them off.
I'm on Hardcore. One other problem is that I've been finding no useful gear, so I have no ammo upgrades at all and almost no weapon upgrades or amps. I just keep getting shotguns and snipers and heavy human armor. But that's just bad luck (and I think I accidentally sold the one or two upgrades I might have had).

exploring some ucws should helps you pick up some ammo mods, as for amps i spent all my cash buying one at the citadel, those are harder to pick up exploring.

yeah, but they'll switch every now and then on their own. He seems inclined thus far to use the Assault Rifle.
Not that it's a big deal - I haven't leveled up shotguns in quite a while, while his assault rifle skill is admirable.

Also another tip for anyone with sniper rifles on Shepard, Geth will always attack in areas that are long enough for sniper ranges due to one of the base Geth being the Sniper Geth. So pack anti-mechanical ammo for an easy time in Geth areas.

I got the Colossus on one attempt by running it over. Really, that's the only way I've found the Mako to be worthwhile.
Is it possible to try to move around from the north end of the outpost?
edit: Right bumper, you say? No idea. Why read instructions?

Unless you're already level 60 and have max money. Then you think just fucking die already.
Past about level 20 your three characters do more damage than the Mako, so the answer is "less time".
Amen to that.
And yeah...the Mako just ends up being good for traversing long distances after a while. Good times.
