Internet sites opening with wrong region

I'm using the latest version of Firefox, and lately some websites, such as Youtube or Sony's playstation pages (PSP, PS3, etc), keep opening up in the UK region, and not NA where I reside. I haven't found out where I can configure my settings so web sites open in the correct region. Any help here?

Its tied to your IP address. Apparently the internet thinks you live in the UK. Call your ISP and complain.

My ISP is Comcast. I have to physically call them about this? It's not something I could configure on my own?

Are you using a proxy for any reason?

Basically automatic region selection works by the destination server taking your IP address and comparing it to the known assignments of addresses worldwide. So either Comcast is using an IP range that was supposed to be assigned to Europe, or Sony has gotten mixed up.

Or you're using a European proxy for some reason, so from Sony's perpective, on the surface, it looks like you are connecting from Europe.

I can't really say for certain. I don't usually mess with the default connections. If it's a proxy thing, is that something I could fix by opening up my IP on the address bar? Where would I go to check this?

And if it all checks out, the next step is to call Comcast, right?

I would check to see if you have any Firefox extensions (or failing that, spyware) that is proxying your connection. Comcast is a big enough company that if you weren't being proxied, everyone on the planet should know that your IP address is in North America.

Well I do have several Firefox extensions. You're saying one of them could be setting my region as UK?

Rather than wade through all my extensions to see which one is doing this, is there an additional extension I could download that will lock my region for NA?

Yeah, sounds like a Firefox configuration thing, but Comcast might have different IP blocks depending on how it's grown (did they buy out a local company?), so it could be them.

Easiest way to tell is to visit the same website in Internet Explorer.

    No.

There is no such thing as a "region" for your browser. I am saying one of your extensions (or some spyware) could be causing all of your traffic to be proxied through an address registered to someone in the UK.

There are a variety of firefox extensions that allow you to browse through a proxy. That is, your machine sends a request to a remote machine somewhere, it fetches the page from the website you typed, then sends it back to your computer. If the proxy machine is in the UK, then the websites will think that your machine is in the UK. These are most commonly used for browsing privacy.

Okay. I just need to figure out which extension is doing this, and how to change it to NA (or just remove the extension).

I'm at work so I can't name all of them, but off the top of my head: Adblock Plus, Cool Iris, Veoh, Several saved Themes, a search toolbar (for sites like amazon, imdb, youtube, etc), something that can increase or decrease jpegs with the mouse wheel, and that's about all I can remember right now.
