Trillian Causing Hardware Lag

For the past two days, every time I either send or receive a message in Trillian, I experience some major hardware lag. This has never happened before and I have no idea what could be causing it to happen out of the blue.

    I've noticed that although Trillian is infinitely more userfriendly than the services it emulates, it often uses more processing power than I'd expect.
