There's a demo out of the game on the Marketplace. 1.7 gigs, and the complete second mission of the single player game. I haven't tried it yet but I think it takes a sandbox approach to completing objectives (different ways to accomplish a goal).
Anyone tried this one out yet?

Why would they sneak this demo out before releasing the Burnout Paradise OMG mega-demo? And furthermore, why would they emphasize the single player mode when these guys worked on Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat and Battlefield 2? The single player mode in those games was literally a bot match.
I don't even want to play the demo because I have really high hopes for this title.

I would really suggest renting it before purchasing unless it's very cheap.
I was in the multiplayer beta and it was awful. The amount of bugs were astounding, and it was largely unplayable. The level of poor programming was downright embarrassing. But bugs can be fixed, so I'll put those aside. It just wasn't fun. I don't understand how the screenshots can look so good when in-game and in motion it's really ugly. The models and textures were really low-quality. The maps they had were small, really weren't designed very well or impressive, and there was massive fog. I'll try the demo on the marketplace, but I'm not too hopeful from what I played in the beta. Just try and think of something bad and it was probably true for Frontlines, from the interface to the hit box detection.

It's ridiculously clunky, not bad but the crouch/prone button was hard to use, and trying to use a rocket launcher from behind cover is an exercise in futility.
But blowing up tanks with explosive versions of the tyco rebound is entertaining for its own sake.
Yes,THQ launched this new video game,if you want to get more info you can visit here. The trailhead of it is started in exeoinc.
This ARG game is set in a world war caused by oil crisis in future world.
It is a first person shooter similar in style to Halo.
AND,which is more attracted is that the winner will have a chance visiting Air Combat for free AND a free copy of the "Fuel of War". People who recruit a winner will get the same prizes as well.
Maybe it's a good way to invite your friends to increase your chance of winning.8-)
Shill much?
As for the demo, I found it painfully generic. I hope the multiplayer is better. Also, the HUD is horrible.
Anyway, the demo is a pre-release demo with code several months old. The game does not come out until February.
To address a few other things here, we take player feedback seriously and are working hard to fix the control issues with the Xbox version of the game. We're also looking at the UI issues people have brought up and have just announced that a multiplayer demo for the 360 is in the works. We've also released a major update to the PC multiplayer beta and are continuing to address the feedback from players.
The Frontlines open beta started recently and we are releasing 5,000 keys a week on Wednesdays through Fileplanet (membership but no subscription required). We're still working on server optimizations for the 360 which is why we released the single-player demo first.
Anyway, we appreciate any feedback whether positive or negative. I'm the community manager for the game and take what players have to say seriously and make sure their opinions get back to the studio.
I'll watch this thread in case people have any comments or questions or you can visit our beta forums at http://community.kaosstudios.com/
THANKS!
P.S. We're considering adding THE BREAKDOWN to Frontlines. Aw jeah!

But really, when I played it (this was on my old TV and not my monitor), it didn't look too good, one thing that particularly stood out to me was a statue in the middle of the town area. Along with that, it felt like objects in the world had much larger hit boxes than they should, so my own grenades would bounce back in my face.

I remember playing the beta. Did they make it easier to tell who is friend from foe?
During the beta I was playing a sniper and I had snuck into enemy territory. From a cliff ledge I was picking off enemy soldiers. After 3 or 4 kills I hear a gunshot go off right next to me. I turn and look and an enemy sniper had set up shop right along side me. There was no foliage to cover me, I was out in the open, but here was an enemy sniper laying next to me picking of my guys. Well I take my pistol out and shoot him dead. Thats when I realized they needed to distinguish friend from foe better.
Sadly that was not the only incident like that, just one that springs to mind.

I'm not a fan of the art style it just seems so plain. I know it is a bit late in developement to change the art style on the whim of one random internet dude though :P
Thread revival, eh? Oh, and a community manager from Kaos is in here, too! I'm not going to go easy because of that fact, though.
So yes, the open beta is in full swing, and just like the closed beta, it causes me to become physically ill and, strangely, angry. For some reason, there's still a heavy amount of fog for each level. It makes little sense in this day and age. Am I playing Dynasty Warriors again? Visibility is set to max, yet there it is, blinding the map in a white wall.
The weapons handle like rabid beasts, in that as soon as you fire your weapon, it will shoot upward like a rocket straight to the moon. I tell no lie when I say an enemy player and I stood 20 feet away from each other, both of us firing away yet unable to hit each other due to both the way the weapons handle and probably terrible hit detection. He had an assault rifle, and I had a sniper rifle. I managed to kill him, but it took us both a significant amount of in-game time at that distance to kill each other.
Animations, textures, level design are very amateurish. It definitely feels like it was built by a team whose past was just previously making mods. Also, your graphical settings don't like to stick. You can set them again and again, and they'll always change to neither default nor what you chose, but always at a lower quality. I did manage to increase the graphics eventually, so the comment about the fog still sticks, but that's an issue that really should be fixed.
Overall, it's not a fun multiplayer experience. The overall quality of the product is most assuredly not very high, although I did play the 360 single-player demo and it seems most of the polish was for that portion (I still didn't find it that fun or impressive, though; it doesn't hold a candle to, say, Call of Duty 4) of the game. So after having played the single-player demo, the closed beta, and the open beta, you're going to have to do a lot of work to convince me to purchase this game.

I've been poking around these forums for years - and was in the WoW Dark Iron guild for a time - and wouldn't expect anyone to go easy!
Out with my son today so will respond more later but that "enemy sniper" report was great. The AI has been worked on since then but will still pass that one on. Pretty funny.

Always nice to see a member of the team stop by, even if we're not always the most pleasant to hear from.
I liked the demo... it was o.k. I guess. It didn't blow me away, and it didn't make me want to spend $50, but it was certainly playable. I guess there just wasn't much there. The controls seemed... weird. I don't know how to describe it, but it's almost like someone played one shooter years ago, and then made up his own control scheme. I haven't looked enough (my bad) to know if you can change the controls, but really, control schemes are one area that games should blatantly plagiarize other games. The setup in Halo 3 and CoD4 work well, and other companies should just scream a loud "YOINK!" to make it easier on gamers. ;-) In Frontlines, you carry more weapons than either game, but perhaps hitting the "change weapon" button to switch to sidearm, and holding it to select between weapons, for a start?
The weapons themselves have no "oomf" to them. They recoil like fucking crazy, which should probably be worked on as well, but the sound effects are very soft, and enemies don't really react when shot. Half the time, I honestly can't tell if I'm actually scoring hits.
Really, I want to like the game... I've been looking forward to it for a long time, but I was pretty sad when I got to play the demo. This is one of those cases where I hope the game is delayed some, so we can get a more polished experience.
Oops misread it. I was on my "smart"phone and pre-coffee lol
Will pass it on though.
And "Shadowfire" I'm more interested in honesty than pleasant...
The SP demo is older code so you should see a difference in the upcoming multiplayer demo.
Controls and recoil are being looked at... not sure why you found the sound effects "soft" - we've gotten a lot of good feedback on them. Can you go into more detail?
I played the demo, and I tried to like it...but once I hopped in the tank, I got stuck and and died after about 2 minutes of tanks shooting at me. I quit right then and there, and unless there are some serious improvements, I don't see myself playing this one. Sorry.

Do you mean you got stuck in terms of physically stuck? Like the tank got stuck on something on the landscape or stuck in terms of you couldn't get past the tank fight and finish the level?
I'm usually just a lurker but when I saw this thread I thought I should just post what I thought of the game.....Not to sound like a complete suck up, but I really enjoyed the demo. The graphics were great (outside of the initial Guy talking to the troops in the chopper), and the "movement" in the environment was also a highlight. I know it was just a train rolling over a bridge but at least it was there......
Gameplay wise I think you've really nailed it. The countless hours I've spent playing the different Battlefield games on PC were finally rewarded with a console game that feels just like it. Having the different levels of the environment open to the player was also a nice touch. Being able to not only flank but to also go above or below the combat area, helps add to the replay value. Likewise suitable weapons being available to the player in these places (nice touch). The C4 drone car thing was also fun, although better "car" handling would be appreciated. Tank handling felt a little clunky (probably what was intended), would also be nice to handle slightly better....... it is a game and being able to control (almost perfectly) whatever vehicle you jump into is always fun. The mix of the objectives and their non linear placement is great. Maybe slightly better HuD or environment markings on them, I ran past a few (especially in the building next to the tank).
Just a couple of other questions/requests:
Is there a parachute in the game? (maybe i missed the button) It's fun jumping from high places....
Please no-insane achievements, like be No. 1 on the leaderboards. A huge request that will earn you much praise from the XBL community (especially in Australia)......... allow us to host our own dedicated server XBL games........ please please please....... See RTCW on the original Xbox on how to do it right.
A few easter eggs on maps, just some fun stuff for the fans to look for?
Ok I think that's it...... no doubt some of this stuff has been fixed in the newer versions, so sorry if I missed that. Thanks for reading this :P

How can you praise such a steaming pile of horse manure?
Comparing this game to battlefield is like comparing Mario Galaxy to Spyro the Dragon. I know it was a demo but it was poor, very poor.
The premise was good but the game is very poorly executed.

Sorry Man
Maybe he's a philistine.
Anyways, if you think the single-player was bad, you should try the multi-player. As I said before, it looks like the single-player is getting all the polish for the game, even though they seem adamant to promote it's multi-player. It's bad, though. Really bad. Sorry, Mitch, but I think it's a little too late to fix it. There's too much there that would have to be re-done. Animations, textures, level design, engine optimizations (seriously, do they not know how to make good use of the engine, because the level of fog online reminds me of Dynasty Warriors), mechanics, etc.
It's just not fun. It's actually an exercise just to play a match, with you battling the poor mechanics and design. The single-player is better, not really that praise-worthy, but less of a frustration and bore. Unfortunately, I was interested in it for it's online mode, so this isn't a purchase.

I've been salivating over Frontlines, I love the moving front and the Battlefield style free roaming. So of course when I saw the demo I downloaded it in a heartbeat. I was disappointed it was only SP but, hey, at least it would give me a taste.
Well it tasted like white bread. I didn't think anything about the 360 SP demo was bad but there was a lot of mediocre. The level design, I felt, was top notch. Plenty of possibilities there between the allies and rooftops. The weapons were fine, typical FPS fare, with the standout RC car.
The controls, I don't know, they didn't really bother me. Nothing special but they didn't feel terrible. I doubt there is enough time ($) but I think the game would be 80% improved just by adding a Rainbow Six: Vegas style cover system.
The tank controls were a bit...wonky. I got myself turned around a few times trying to drive it but it was manageable.
I wait to reserve judgment for the MP demo but things aren't looking up. I think you'll have a hard time convincing people to drop the cash for this when COD4 and Halo 3 are still so fresh. Holding off release until the summer, when there usually isn't much of worth being released, is probably a pretty good idea. February is all ready rather packed with big titles. I don't think Frontlines, at this point, has what it takes to stand out in a crowd so targeting a smaller crowd could yield better results. Plus it gives the devs more time to fine tune everything.
Did you change anything about it from the single-player in terms of the way weapons feel, vehicle handling, etc? If not, I don't want to waste the bandwidth or hard drive space downloading it.

Having a lot of fun with it, it definitely is much better than the single player was.
Still not a full price purchase for me, but maybe if I can pick it up at a bargain and it's still played online, I will get it.
I love the dedicated servers though, it runs so much better than Halo or CoD4 ever will.

I love the Dedicated servers, but are we playing with PC users or what? there's no voice at all, and I have no idea what my team is doing.
As far as the game goes:
Gameplay is pretty solid, with good hit detection, and realism (a-la counterstrike, where a few bullets is all it takes at close range)
The weapon selections are good, and the secondary weapon evolution system is pretty nifty, as long as you don't mind being dedicated to a specific support class. (I prefer remote control ops.)
The vehicle control is pretty solid, and well balanced. Vehicles trump ground weapons, but the bazooka has a lock on feature, and the remote explosives, mines, and grenades do the job as well.
Overall I'm a fan, I spent a couple hours on it last night, I just wish I could talk to people without a USB keyboard.
Also, I like hiding, launching a helicopter or car, and fucking people up with them. That and a sniper rifle make my day.
I remember snagging the demo a while back and I actually liked it alot. I thought the graphics were great and I loved the sound and story. Or at least the chunk of story I saw in the demo.
I enjoyed the little remote controled death cars and just thought it was a good, solid game.
The only complaint I have is the tank controls were, at least for me, way off. Maybe I can't drive 'em and others can, but I just couldn't get it down.
If the controls had a bit of polish on them, I would pick this game up, maybe not right away, I would wait for the price to drop a bit. I know alot of people here didn't like it, but it just cliked with me for some reason.
But if you can only chat in a squad, how do you tell people to get INTO a squad?

Aside from the horrible tank controls in the SP demo that was released awhile back, one other thing I noticed is that the AI didn't really -react- to stuff that you did.
For example, at one point I managed to punch a hole in their lines, at the start of the level. Everyone got through. I expected to be followed when I went to the back-most objective, but the enemies just sort of waited around for me to return. Was kind of anticlimatic, considering. I mean, you could pretty much hear the gunfire, and sounds of my team wiping out the enemies at the objective, but noone showed up.
Other then that, the demo seemed decent enough. I noticed that allies didn't seem to have tracer-fire, which made it kind of hard to tell if they were actually attacking anything or not, but other then that, it was OK. The tank controls totally sucked, though. It was nearly impossible to hit anything. I ended up beating the other tanks by popping off one or two shots, rolling back behind cover, healing, and then popping back out and repeating that until all of the tanks were dead. I'll pick up the MP demo when I can and check it out. Maybe it improves on the controls.

Can you give me more specifics about what you didn't like with the weapons or vehicles?

Still not a full price purchase for me, but maybe if I can pick it up at a bargain and it's still played online, I will get it.
I love the dedicated servers though, it runs so much better than Halo or CoD4 ever will.

S Q U A D P A R A D O X ?
HORRIBLE GAMEPLAY.
Reminds me of Turning Point: Fall of Liberty` even. From the demos at least.
Just hit "up" on the D pad to access the squad menu and send them an invite.
