PS3 numbers look a lot like GCN 2002 numbers, so much so that I'll predict only a 33% increase for December sales.
I know you love to troll the PS3 but the November sales are only a little lower than the 360's last year (though they're probably a fair bit higher worldwide). So by extension, does that make the 360 the new GC too?
Comparing the PS3 to the GCN is the highest compliment I could possibly pay the system. Anyways, for an accurate comparison the 360 you'd have to compare GCN sales from November 2003. I'd say the 360 is a bit ahead of that mark, but probably not by as much as you'd think. The 360 is a relatively slow seller because of the price, while the GCN was cheap as chips by that point.
An apt comparison is:
PS3 = Sega Saturn. Just without all the great games that the Saturn had.
Think about it. Over priced. Hard to develop for. Initial offerings relied on a rally racer and a dragon shooting pew pew game. What third party support there is, the PS3, like the Saturn, is getting rushed ports that don't take advantage of the system or are not tailored for it, and the best games are probably going to be published by Sony.

Is there something going on in Japan that I haven't heard about? I thought it was some kind of blip with Mario but apparently something there is shooting the console software market to hell.

Why don't PC-exclusive developers get together for a marketing campaign? Games for Windows doesn't seem to be too thrilling.
I'm thinking something like: Hey frat guy, your PC can be used for more than just getting laid through Facebook. Come back and explore the magic.
Well, Microsoft tried with their "Games for Windows" banner (which always struck me as pointless, since the other operating systems aren't exactly overflowing with big-name exclusives) and Live on PC, which was apparently a bomb-and-a-half.
Are there any PC games not published by Microsoft on PC Live?

WHAT ABOUT BRAWL?
Since Japan doesn't actually buy games anymore, I wonder how that first week will go.
I think that right there is why Wii isn't getting the third party support Nintendo would like.
Wait wait wait..
Let me get this straight...
The Wii, which costs far less to develop and publish for, has almost an equal number of installed base as the PS3 and 360 combined, which cost far more to develop and publish for, especially since it at least requires porting and publishing another format..
So...
What you're saying is that it's smart to spend $10M making a 360 game, a 'few' extra bucks on top of that to port to the PS3, and sell it to 20M people... as opposed to making a game for $5M for the Wii, and selling it to 15M people.
An outstanding attach rate for the 360 and a good one for the PS3 shows that there is still a huge market for HD gaming.
The problem with this "casual gamer uprising" is that developers may begin to ditch expensive, big titles for cheap, quick selling casual games. Dinner at Black Angus probably costs more than what it cost to develop Brain age and look at the sales on that. Why spend millions of dollars on development and advertising on a big title like MGS4 and Halo 3 when you can make 10 good puzzle games for the same cost?

Yeah, as I mentioned.
Perhaps it would be better if the real hardcore PC houses got together, the ones that haven't consolized their games too much. And I mention that only because those houses have more to lose, and aren't swimming in the console dollars. Blizzard and Valve would be a start -- is there anyone else? Not sure the MMORPG houses would be any help.

Probably because that shit isn't easy to score on. It's like asking why filmmakers don't just develop 10 Napoleon Dynamites.
Call of Duty, GTA, etc. really are just like printing money unless you screw up.
Google released a chart for the most-searched for gaming consoles.
That spike on the Wii there? That's the desperation of the market searching for wiis online when they realize that B&M retailers are sold out everywhere..
Has this been posted yet? Nintendo starts it's own raincheck program for the Wii. Maybe this will combat all the chodes buying a Wii and putting it right up on eBay.

The 'Playstationxbox Family' (needs more trademark symbols) You've never heard of it?
I think we were all thrown off by that comment.
We still don't have Zero coming to explain it yet...
You have to put them on the same scale and logarithms would only confuse people.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
Nintendo will start buying back Wiis from customers.. Oh Michael Pachter, you card.
DS - 15,100,000
PSP - 9,440,000
360 - 7,862,151
Wii - 6,019,685
PS3 - 2,446,649
Some are more specific than other because they come from different posts at GAF
Also US tie ratios were posted
PS3 4.01
Wii 3.86 (not including Wii Sports)
360 6.85
PS3 and Wii's are good, 360's is incredible

lol, not the best representation of the phantom jerk but the expression on his face perfectly matched mine when I was reading that post.
That's pretty bad, I thought Japan (and everyone else for that matter) loved GT
So if Wii starts getting 1.8M a month out, it could pass the 360 in NA sometime around when brawl and wii fit comes out?
It's not selling 1.8 million/month in the US, that's worldwide. On their current tracks Wii will overtake 360 in the US in about 10 months.

Games for Windows is probably the worst thing to happen to PC gaming in awhile... especially now that theyre forcing users to use Live.

Actually, wait, I don't, because anything that furthers the cause of handhelds is a good thing in my book.
Die, wretched abominations chained to power outlets! DIEEEEEE!!!
Ahem. That aside, it's pretty obvious that, for now anyway, Japan is a handheld/mobile nation.

WTF does "sell through" mean?
i.e. A retailer order 100K copies of a game and 50K copies are sold to consumers, it's a 50% sell-through.
Platinum FC: 2880 3245 5111
NiGHTS only sold 10% of its stock on store shelves, I believe.
Wow, that's even worse then I thought then.
Also, Is that Castle Shikigami 3, I see there?
ooh.. I hope they bring that bad boy over to the US!

They're only 1 day of sales.
We're used to seeing JPN numbers after a full week, and even then, a lot of decent-selling games only hit 80k.
The only games that nail 100+k on the first day are reserved for squeenix games and nintendo games, it seems.
