Who's looking for rare trades?

So, after Hooraydiation made the extremely valid point that others might also be searching for rare trades, I'm altering this thread slightly.

The idea is basically that we all visit different LCS all over the world, and what's sold out in one store might be available in another. I know I managed to find both the Alias and New X-Men Omnibus in local sydney stores after being told they were out of print and impossible to get.

For me, I love Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. And as an extension of that creepy love, I want to own books he/it shows up in. The catch? Pretty much everything I don't already own is out of print and hard to find D:

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to check your LCS next time you think about it on the off chance that a rare OOP book is available and you know someone who wants to get their grubby little mitts on it! If you see something someone is looking for, post the contact details here and whoever is searching can get in touch with your local store and snap it up.

The stuff I'm specifically looking for is:

Thanos: Infinity Abyss
Thanos: Marvel Universe - The End
Thanos: Epiphany
Thanos: Samaritan

Rewards will range from sincere thanks for your help right through to that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping random people to buy comics. And if anyone else is looking for rare books and wants to join the hunt, they should post what they are after and the hunt can commence!

I'll look into those books for you, but I think this might stand a better chance of not getting locked if you turn it into a generic "What I want for Christmas" or 'Comic Book Rareties" thread rather than something that benefits you exclusively.

Good plan! I know I'd be happy to scout around if anyone else is hunting for similarly rare books.

Are you looking for the trade only, or individual issues as well? At WWTX last month I was able to pick up all theissues for 50 cents to a dollar each. Maybe someone can locate them for you that way as well.

Hmmm... to be honest I'm pretty anti-singles, I like to have trades that can go on my book shelf. Thanks for the thought though!

There is that service that dismantles your singles and binds them into a hardcover. Or you could place the singles in plastic sleeves and place the plastic sleeves into a labeled binder.

Neither of these are preferable to owning the trades, I'm sure, but surely they're better than never reading the stories at all.

Did you look up any of these trades on the American amazon.com? I figure it would have been one of the first places you'd look, but I'm seeing the trades listed as being sold on the Amazon marketplace. Is the problem that the sellers don't ship internationally or that the prices are too high?

Also, at least two of the trades are on eBay.

As for the site that binds a collection of singles into a single hardcover, I saw it posted on here like a year ago and never bothered to jot down the link. I'm sure someone has it, though.

None of them are available through Amazon (my first choice of international stores for this stuff) and to be honest I know next to nothing about the Amazon marketplace. Whenever I've looked the stuff is absurdly expensive (because they know its out of stock I guess) and postage is usually extremely high internationally.

I'll check out eBay, I haven't checked it in a while I must admit.

I think I posted that singles binding thing, but someone else might ahve as well.

Here's the process on how it's done:

    SOME GENERAL GUIDELINES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Single volumes cost $50.00-67.50 a piece.

Each project is unique however here are some notes that will help you get an understanding about the process.

SINGLE ISSUES: This assumes that you are having bound 25 issues of a title. Choice of colors for the binding are available. During the process, staples are removed from the comics, spines are trimmed slightly and then the whole package is sewn together. From there the hardcover is added along with acid free end-papers.

TRADE PAPERBACKS: The book would be created in the following manner. Using the trade paperback a professional bookbinder would make it into a hardcover book. During the process the TPB cover would be removed and then laminated (or not) to the outside of the book both front and back. Making it truly a one of a kind collection.

    * 4-6 six week turnaround, not counting shipping. Payment is expected in advance.
    * Customer files maintained so that as new volumes are produced consistency is preserved.

Hopes this helps. If you have additional questions, let me know.

Blergh, those ebay auctions went off... Marvel: The End went for nearly $50 US!!

Perhaps this is the answer instead... strikes me as "illegal" but he claims its not. Seems to have collections of just about everything under the sun, not just Thanos.

PS: Those bound singles ARE pretty awesome(ly expensive D: )

Stay away from shit like this. It's just a burned DVD of cbrs downloaded from the net, which kinda makes it illeagal. If you really want to read Marvel's stuff on your PC just get a subscription to Marvel's new online service.

Yeah, I'm aware that it's dodgy... i just think it's interesting he claims it's all above board. You would think Marvel would crack down on that kind of thing since they started the new service. In many ways it's worse than pirates, because he is making money off it.

The only rare trade I can get for everyone is Absolute LOEG Volume 2 for whatever it cost when it came out at my LCS.

Unfortunately Vol. 2 is not that hard to find. What I need is Absolute LOEG Vol. 1, at a reasonable price.
And absolute Planetary.... but I am hoping they will collect the whole series into a massive volume... if it ends.

Have you seen what Vol 1 is going for on Amazon??

    Yoink!

I've got a Cassaday Jakita sketch in the front of mine.

I know I've got some kind of impossible requests but I figured I'd give them a shot on here just to say that I tried everything.

    Batman: Prodigal
This was the story set after the whole Knights trilogy where Dick got to be Batman for a while. It was eight parts and I found 5 of the parts in bargain bins but I can't find the other three and I'd love to have the trade because the cover is so cool.

    Millenium
This was a DC event in the late 80's involving several key DC characters being revealed to be sleeper agents for the Manhunter Robots.

    Legends
The first crossover after Crisis on Infinite Earths and perhaps the only time Jason Todd did something useful as Robin.

    The Titans
Any trades of thsi series would be appreciated. It got to 50 issues and it was cancelled at the same time as Young Justice right before the Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day event.

Jason Todd had a really nice role in Batman: The Cult.

Which is also worth reading because, fuck me I love some Jim Starlin.

I might check out The Cult...is it hard to find? Death of the New Gods is the first Starlin book I've ever bought and I like it pretty well.

There were a few copies of The Cult kicking about my local comic shop recently, so I doubt it.
