Man I'm reading both the G&T and SE++ TF2 threads and my findings are that half of the people involved are asstacular morons
Seriously, words can't explain how much this bollocks has pissed me off, so just imagine that I'm dropping in every hour or so to post a couple of ANGSTY POSTS and you'll have my contribution for however long this shitfuckery continues
I dont see why theres an arguement about how tfs acts, hes breaking alot of the rules on the server isnt he? spraying porn and piping music should of got him banned the first time around.......
issue with the idea that it is a medic's "job" to heal people. If a medic wants to bonesaw or needlegun or what the fuck ever, why the hell not. It isn't his job to do shit. The only time you have any right to ever get mad at a medic for exclusively bonesawing is if the server for some godforsaken reason has a limited amount of medic slots.
Who gives a shit how much your choice of playstyle is "worth"? This isn't purposeful griefing, this isn't interfering with anyone else's ability to have fun, this is a person playing an online game in the method that they enjoy. It doesn't have any bearing on your play experience AT ALL unless you really really give a shit that they might have 12 useful players to your 11 and a half. Piping music? If the admin doesn't like it, ban that shit. Shooting flames in front of snipers? That's fucking obnoxious, and bannable. Building your own team in? Sure, that's pretty annoying, and it's up to the admin. But do NOT take action against a player for MELEEING.
This will get you a warning (from a temp ban to a "Don't do that again"):
Unrecognized Exploits
Malicious Namecalling/Insults
Newb bashing
"OMG it's a girl" creepiness
Borderline griefing (a catch all, really)
This will get you called an asshat by other people, and not make you any friends:
Running around melee only
Taunting a lot
Attemting to use Diplomatic means to come to an agreeable resolution between BLU and RED.
If someone is violating my rules, please get me the name they were using AND their steam ID. The Steam ID looks like this "STEAM_0:1:234567" and you can get from the console status command. I can not ban them without that second piece of info, and I won't without the first piece to make sure that other people saw it happen.

im not having very much fun when the medic behind me isnt healing me and i have to wait 20 seconds to respawn.
but im sure hes having a blast waiting 20 seconds to respawn too after failing to bonesaw anyone.
The mere fact that you see a medic and run into combat thinking "oh he'll heal me", and then get mad at him when he doesn't, implies a serious problem with your playstyle and quite possibly an infection of the amygdala.
I for one find bonesaw-wielding medics absolutely terrfying. They kill me in two hits guaranteed, they're faster than me and reach approx. 10 meters by my estimates. I'd rather go toe-to-toe with a scout.
I'd appreciate a team medic to be moderately useful even if they choose to be a battle medic, though. For instance, putting out fires? That would be great, thanks.

Yes because seeing a MEDIC who has a HEAL GUN and expecting that person to HEAL is fucking bat shit insane.

Just a little peeve I have, but if a medic has MASSIVE DAMAGE and you're racing him to the health pack, let him get it. He can then heal you to full and you're both ready for action.
I hate having to sit around at 10 waiting for the health pack to come back.

Yeah, it is. When I'm a medic, trust me, there's nothing more annoying than someone running by me, getting insta-raped, and holding a grudge against me for the rest of the map. If I don't say "I'm on you, ____" or you're not slowly and inevitable dying or close to it in an entirely defensive scenario (meaning that you're on fire or very very low on health and I'm not actively healing someone who would immediately die without my aid), I'm not going to heal you. You want a medic that automatically heals you every time he sees you? Get your girlfriend a copy of the game. Otherwise, people have priorities, and their own methods of playing the game. Do you bitch out an engineer for blowing up his teleport so that he can move it forward to an arguably dangerous position? Do you get pissed at a spy for shooting out of disguise instead of backstabbing? Do you get angry at a sniper for noscoping instead of SMGing at close range? How anyone else plays their class is none of your goddamned business.
Shankill I think you're taking umbrage where insult isn't meant.
I've SEEN YOU HEAL PEOPLE. Therefore you aren't what we're talking about.
There are people that have taken your "battle medic" and made it into an idea that they don't heal anybody, ever.
edit: we're talking griefing, we're not talking about people having different ideas of the worth of their play style with a class. If a dude gets more kills with the sMG as sniper then tally ho.
But if a dude builds a sentry gun outside your spawn as blu on gravelpit and then sits their healing it the whole time the something is wrong.
Or things that just don't work. Like an all offensive medic that doesn't heal anybody even when they're on fire with 8 health and no enemies are around.
Yeah, we seriously need to stop feeding TFS, and as far as I'm concerned the fucker should just be banned from the TF2 servers the next time this shit goes on. As said before TFS just likes the attention, and thinks we're all the fun police and that it brings the "lulz" and we all think TF2 is "serious business". We all know that TF2 isn't serious business, that we love having fun, and that us trying to have a serious discussing with TFS does in fact not bring the "lulz".
In conclusion: more hilarious class-rushes when everyone is goofing off, and more wacky adventures that I've come to love from the PA servers. Just less pipping music and fucking up your team mates for fun. I guess I come off as quite grumpy on the forums, and probably with my rampant cursing on TF2, but playing on the PA servers is some of the most fun I've had in gaming in a long time, and even when I'm losing, there's a chance I'm laughing my ass off at the situation I've gotten myself into against one of you guys. Even when I've got 3 kills and 42 deaths to Flippy or TinyLobster, or Marty punching my face in.
Shankill: getting my girlfriend a copy of TF2 wouldn't get me a 24/7 healer, she'd tell me to fuck off and rush in with a Pyro.
On the note of the Battle Medic, I know there are times when I goof off and rush in with the needle gun, but I make sure to whip out that heal gun when someone is nearby dying. I'd feel like an ass if I had the power of life and I didn't use it because I was too busy trying to bonesaw someone. If I can save someone a crappy 20 second respawn time, I will.

How so, its a team game. I don't think you fully grasp what it means to be on a team. I'm not saying you have to play a class exactly the way I or anyone dictates but one should at least play the class in a way that fits the role it was created for. (i.e. Medics healing people and Engis building stuff) That is all I ask of anyone that I play with.

You can ask it, but you cannot demand it, and they don't have to comply. It's a team game, yes. However, don't be so presumptuous as to assume that because it is a game in which players work together, you have any right to tell them how to play the game. First most important is each individual player's idea of fun; second most important is striving for a common victory.

Listen, I'm not saying that everybody needs to put the team ahead of themselves every time. I understand that whenever I choose to play a class I'm not the best at that I'm lowering my team's chances of success. That sort of thing can't be helped, we're all playing for fun here and I would never suggest that someone be forced to choose a specific class. But there's a limit here, and in a team game you have the responsibility to give the a little bit of consideration to your teammates. You can play whatever class you want, but don't do something that obviously has no redeeming value and is making everybody else's game worse just for the sake of your own fun. Battle medics are borderline compared to some of the more blatant examples, but it's still a pretty dickish thing to do. Sometimes we all have to make little sacrifices for the sake of playing well with others. I had thought most of us learned this in grade school but apparently not.

I think that the main decision lies in a consensus as to how much a player's conduct affects the other players. If the situation were a medic healing some guy, and saying "Ok, let's go", and then switching to a bonesaw as soon as they get into the fray, we would have an honest problem here, because that is clearly some guy fucking around with the other members of his team. As long as the bonesawing medic makes no claims as to his nature and doesn't play off of his teammates expectations, I see no problem.

Does seeing another player melee really cost you pleasure? Can you not enjoy yourself knowing that somewhere out there a medic is killing people at close range?
I have an enormous issue with the idea that it is a medic's "job" to heal people. If a medic wants to bonesaw or needlegun or what the fuck ever, why the hell not. It isn't his job to do shit. The only time you have any right to ever get mad at a medic for exclusively bonesawing is if the server for some godforsaken reason has a limited amount of medic slots.
Except that there are a limited amount of slots, in general, on the server and a bonesawing medic isn't exactly the most useful or contributive to the game. And no, this is different than players who are simply less skilled, because it's a deliberate choice.
I have same right to expect a medic to heal me as i have a right to expect the guy im healing to kill people.
No, you have the same right to expect a medic to heal you as you have the right to expect a player on the other side of the map to kill people. You have to same right to expect a player you are healing to kill people as you have to assume that a medic that is healing you will continue to heal you in combat.

If I say that having a player on my team who is deliberately trying not to help us win and rather intentionally just fucking off, and keeping another player who would do neither of these from joining the server in their place, does cost me pleasure then do I win the argument?
Because in a team-based game I don't see how this is an entirely unreasonable assertion.

You either haven't read my previous posts on the subject or a purposefully over generalizing the point I'm trying to make. A medic bone sawing people I have no problem with, I do it often myself. But I also heal people when they need it and when I'm sure they're savable without costing me my life. What I have a problem with is say someone spawning as a medic and doing nothing but bone sawing people and making no attempt at healing his team mates. Spawning as a medic does imply that you are going to try and heal your team mates at least some what. If you have no intention of healing spawn one of the many other classes who have no roll other than to kill and melee with them.

I don't have the right to expect a Medic to heal me, specifically, unless there really isn't any reason at all for him not to. It's the Medic's job to make the call about who to heal. But I think I certainly have the right to expect him to heal my team in general because he chose the class whose job it is to heal people, and who's pretty crap at actual combat.

You're generalizing. When I solely melee, I'm not doing it to fuck around or to anger my teammates, but because I feel like meleeing. This is not entirely unreasonable, I believe.
Except that there are a limited amount of slots, in general, on the server and a bonesawing medic isn't exactly the most useful or contributive to the game. And no, this is different than players who are simply less skilled, because it's a deliberate choice.
I'm not contributing my utmost potential to the game when I choose to play any class other than my best, which is demo man. That would be a deliberate choice, so it should warrant a kick from the server, no?
Zek is right about this whole thing. It comes down to not being a dick and working well with others, which any human being has a pretty good idea of what that means.
Although marty and I did top the point charts as a punching heavy/medic combo, I must remind you all.

I'd appreciate a team medic to be moderately useful even if they choose to be a battle medic, though. For instance, putting out fires? That would be great, thanks.
Yes because seeing a MEDIC who has a HEAL GUN and expecting that person to HEAL is fucking bat shit insane.
edit: but don't get me wrong. I don't expect a medic to follow anyone into a suicide mission

while true, being a shitty loan wolf player shouldn't be bannable or anything... but I may call you a fag
The fact that I am not the player that I am defending should only lend more credence to my argument. I understand that they don't heal people ever, that they run around only bonesawing, that they never ever touch their medigun, and I entirely support that.
If they're on my team it is some what my business. And you'll have to forgive me if I wasn't able to consider all your implied scenarios from your generalized one sentence reply that I quoted.

The only way your being on the accused's team has any relevance is if you're a professional clan playing a scrim or something. Otherwise, sorry, still none of your business.
I'm not denying people's right to suck ass and be annoying either mind you.
and i support calling you a fag.
How so, its a team game. I don't think you fully grasp what it means to be on a team. I'm not saying you have to play a class exactly the way I or anyone dictates but one should at least play the class in a way that fits the role it was created for. (i.e. Medics healing people and Engis building stuff) That is all I ask of anyone that I play with.
edit: and no piping music during a round, I ask that too.

For the most part I agree, however, if someone is purposefully sucking and doing it constantly I think after fair warning punishment is probably appropriate.
Hey, look, a GnTer.
But if your idea of fun comes at the cost of the enjoyment of others (read: your team) then why even play a team game? If your idea of fun is not to help your team but just to dick around for your own personal enjoyment, why play a team game? Why not pick up another FPS and play death match.

Except that there are a limited amount of slots, in general, on the server and a bonesawing medic isn't exactly the most useful or contributive to the game. And no, this is different than players who are simply less skilled, because it's a deliberate choice.
Tofu wrote: Here be Littleboots, destroyer of threads and master of drunkposting.
You're generalizing. When I solely melee, I'm not doing it to fuck around or to anger my teammates, but because I feel like meleeing. This is not entirely unreasonable, I believe.
Zek is right about this whole thing. It comes down to not being a dick and working well with others, which any human being has a pretty good idea of what that means.
Although marty and I did top the point charts as a punching heavy/medic combo, I must remind you all.
I suggest a new topic
Machete or Kukuri?
I submit that both are acceptable as a Kukuri is a type of machete and the sniper's machete does have the tell tale cant mid blade.
