Quick question re: MoHAA.

I have a friend's copy of WarChest sitting in front of me.

Is it worth installing? It looks like ass and I can't imagine the AI is very good, and what's more CoD is the one I associate more with set-pieces (which are the staple of an awesome FPS game). But I'm aware it's pretty highly regarded.

So will it show its age too much for a guy spoiled by HL2 etc, or is it still worth playing?

Yes/No.

I was just looking for some opinions, really. I'll probably install it anyway but I'm just interested.

    No. NO.

It was a pretty solid game at the time, but they were forced the rush it out the door too soon.

You can't go prone (it was in the game at one point, shown in one of the Omaha beach vids). You can't lean (but the enemies can. Better still, they can simply point their guns around a corner and fire blindly with PERFECT accuracy and shoot you right in the face EVERY TIME). Plus there's a lot more solo stuff than in CoD, and solo stuff is meh. The last mission with all those Nazis with AK-47ish assault rifles is really fun, too (NOT!).

CoD is everything they wanted to do with MoH, but couldn't. There's no reason to play it.

Yeah I'm finding this game to be pretty terrible. Currently having to look up what I'm meant to be doing as I'm trapped in an area where I've destroyed a tank, but there's no way out and INFINITELY RESPAWNING ENEMIES, one of my most hated things ever.

Plus I'm playing through on hard so they're accurate and I die in seconds.

The stealthy bit was okay. But that's mainly due to my unhealthy affinity for high-powered sniper rifles.

Addendum: Turns out, I went the right way, but because my AI cohorts had bugged out I wasn't notified.

This game is really bad, I'm amazed at the reviews and hype it got. I'm not even judging it by today's standards. Ocarina of Time, Half Life, etc... those are still good games. This was never a good game.

I find that most FPS games tend to age badly for some reason, which on one hand is quite strange, because the basic gameplay has not evolved that much. But things like graphics and AI are very important to them. Very few FPS games of more than 2-3 years old are still fun to play, IMO. Just play Call of Duty 2 for good WW2 action.

When I got a PC capable of playing MoHAA 5-6 years ago, I downloaded the demo and thought it was pretty damn good. After I built a better PC and tested out the Call of Duty demo, I was amazed and bought that game as soon as I could.

When I finally bought MoHAA, I was incredibly disappointed. It just wasn't that great anymore.
