And Magic, I can't help but look at your name and avatar and feel that you are biased to all things cute :P

    DAMN YOUR SMART EYES

Oddly enough, I also have a huge weakness for hideously evil as well. Cthulhu ass raping a pikachu? I'm there.

As for Xenosaga, I liked what I played which wasn't much. Keep in mind all cutscenes are skippable.

Xenosaga Ep. 1 doesn't really pick up until after the Cathedral Ship business. Make sure you grind in the Encephalon a lot before that point. Even after I grinded for a decent amount of time, the boss fight at the end of that section nearly did me in. The rest of the game seemed a lot easier after that part.

I made it about half-way through Ep. 2. Pretty disappointing. I hated that they changed chaos' voice actor, and I really didn't like Jin all that much. His voice actor sounded a lot like Adam West to me, and the character kept doing this "pat myself on the back" thing that annoyed me. In terms of plot, it was okay. A bit slow, though, with its narrow focus on just a couple of characters.

    I haven't tried Ep. 3 yet.

Huh. I never knew that the right combination of Deathblows did extra damage, or had elemental effects?

You are speaking of the AP Combo's where you build up points and then select several deathblows to do on one turn?
They didn't - some of the deathblows had elemental effects, but only the ones that required 7 AP and none of those could be chained together. The combo string was really only useful against enemies that tended to heal themselves or unleash massive attacks if you used a deathblow - or worse, a combination intant kill/HP steal (I'm looking at YOU Redrum).

It was really only useful against specific enemies, but watching the deathblow animations in fast-forward all strung together was pretty cool regardless.

One Xenogears tradition Xenosaga did keep: tough boss fights. I always dreaded fighting bosses in Xenogears, but the story afterwards was usually worth it.

The second seems much easier from what I've played of it, but it's also got a better battle system.

Actually, I like everything about II more, except the story.

Most people hated Xenosaga 2's battle system.... I've heard only bad things about it.

However, I've also heard the game is a lot shorter and more streamlined, and I think I've heard that there's less grinding as well.

Xenosaga Episode II's battle system is my favorite. Like, out of every JRPG ever, pretty much.

Episode III's battle system takes everything I liked about the first two, and either removes it completely or ruins it. It's not a bad system, I just kind of wish it resembled the one from the first two games, since I liked them both a lot.

BTW: Xenosaga EP II's battle system is the worst ever conceived by man. period.

My favorite thing about Xenosaga 2's battle system was how it made every single random encounter last five minutes!

So I just started playing Xenogears for my first time about a week ago. At the moment I'm about 9 hours in. Currently trying to save Bart's cousin. I didn't really want to start a thread, but I may use this thread to put some thoughts in:
    - Like how half of Bart's crew on the Yggdrasil are bald men with mustaches.

    - Also, apparently Citan talks to a golden floating space skeleton for guidance.

    - I was worried when Fei had a Shinji moment, but thankfully that lasted about 10 minutes, and then he got his shit together.

Please don't spoil anything for me.

Okay, i don't know if this is the answer to the OP question or not, but there are a couple of points in the game where you can eat various foods, and then it will say "you gained a little weight" and I never did figure out if that actually meant something. Perhaps it affects the rate that your stats increase?

Eating the foods will change your base stats (eating more makes you stronger/slower. Exercising has the opposite effect.) I think you can be weighed at the carnival deal early on and that lists the stat changes, but it's basically just some weird little thing that dosen't really matter.

Oh Xenogears, you silly silly game. Very hard to get into for first timers. Heck its painful for me to get back into it and I love the fucking game. That first forest has me tearing out my hair. Painful graphics that game has.

Why do I play it then? Because I'm a man...

One of the things I absolutely love in Xenogears is if you pick Citan to play the card game and he loses, his comment at the end makes him sound like he's trying to be civil about it, but in reality he's about to burst into tears. Just imagining him running away from the card table bawling his eyes out to go cry alone in his room is hilarious.

I found it easy to get into the first time, but I can see where you would say its hard for the first timers, it sometimes doesn't give you a clear clue as to where you want to go, it will just say, "Make yourself at home" and thats it... Duh Hurr.

However, I found if you have someone over your shoulder to kind of give subtle hints here and there, it makes it much more playable. Which I am doing for my girlfriend right now.

Playing through it again is much more fun then you let on I think. That first forest isn't so bad. It has a lot of encounters, a lot. Which is great in my opinion, It allows you to Level up, as well as get deathblow training out of the way.
