BlackSite: Area 51

Hey guys,

My wife picked up BlackSite: Area 51 for Christmas, and after reading about it on IGN and GameFAQs, she'll feeling like she got me a crappy game. I'd like to reassure her its ok, yet it seems like in a world of Gears, Halo and BioShock, some FPS are given bad reviews.

Is this one of those games? We loved Area 51 and Black on the PS2 and heard people say BlackSite is as crappy as those games. How Good or Bad is this game? Honest Opinions about it would be great.

    I think I used to have eyes.

    Anyway, I had the original on the Saturn, but no light gun. I did play a ton of it in an arcade once.

    On reflection it was probably pretty damn bad.

    One of my favorite reviewers, here says that it is just pretty average and not that bad. But like you said, there are alot of great new FPS out now so this game is going to get some shitty reviews.

    Yeah the game was pretty much dead to me, when in an interview they said they were trying to make it really deep with political commentary. In reality, it sounded like they just created some random alien creatures, and made a lame back story on how they were actually Iraq veterans that were experimented on, with some stereotypes of Americans in your squad, I think they even called them stereotypes.

    Ah thanks, now I can actually see the query.

    And no, Blacksite isn't a 'crappy' game. It's a ton of fun and some of the alien designs are unique. Obviously you can't compare it to Gears, Halo or Bioshock because it doesn't have as big as budget but it's still awesome.

    Edit: when I say awesome, I mean it's enjoyable enough to warrant a playthrough. If you liked Black and Area 52 you'll probably like this too.

    I'd rather have Blacksite instead of Jericho. Be glad she didn't get you Jericho.

    It just seems like its utterly and woefully average; bereft of any sort creative design and is built upon FPS clichés. It might not necessarily be a shitty game, but from what I hear, it doesn't have any entertainment value compared to other recent FPSs.

    The creator did apologize for how the game turned out, though, so that should be some sort of indication of its quality.

    Wait, I just got a brilliant idea. This isn't meant to be sarcastic or anything, I just this minute remembered there's a demo of Blacksite on live. Why not give that a try and decide for yourself if you're worried?

    The demo doesn't really give an indication of the game's quality because it's over in less than five minutes. You shoot maybe three aliens and then it says "BUY BLACKSITE".

    There' s a second demo up on marketplace that showcases two levels, But it's not that much longer than the first demo.

    I can tell you that the only reason I didn't buy it is due to the shafting that PS3 multiplayer got. (No mic support)
