Playing the new Burnout demo really made me wish for a 360/PS3 Carmageddon game. The whole time I was thinking if there were some pedestrians, penguins.. elephants etc, that it would be the perfect game.
Yes, this series should be revived properly. I had so much fun with the original. It's a simple formula that should be redone but this time they should have at least two modes of play:
- Classic: Just racing/Destroying other cars/killing
- Challenge mode: Do objectives scattered around the levels
I hated wierd challenges presenting me from just moving on to the next level and having fun.
I agree Handkor, on the PC version I always just used the freeze timer code and drove around at my leisure destroying everything and everyone.
I want a new version of this game so bad that I'd even take the pussied down version with zombies instead of people at this point. Basically they just need to take the good stuff from Burnout and add their universe and some people to run down and we're ready to roll with a kick ass revival.
I'd preorder this today if it were the case, and I rarely preorder anything.
A new Carmageddon would be a breath of fresh air, especially if it retained the design and art style of the original games which would set it apart from all the cookie cutter sci-fi games that come out these days.
I loved the second one. Never had to cheat for time, was always easy to murder enough pedestrians to rack up 20 minutes or so to just screw around really quickly. It was a great, strange hybrid of racer/destroyer/car based platformer, especially with the collecting of powerups and money for said powerups. Plus, there's nothing better than the pinball? powerup combined with the powerup that made people fall apart easily when you hit them. Driving through a crowd of people and having dismembered limbs in the hundreds bouncing sky high is uniquely hilarious.
A sequel would be awesome, but it would need to be pretty cartoony. The old ones had that blocky polygon goodness that kept you immersed in bugs bunny/monty python violence world. Carmageddon 3 was terrible. It was all about the racing, and they were really stingy with the time they gave for doing anything, so you were stuck playing it like it was burnout or something.
I loved both of them and played them both alot. I bet if I went back and played them now they definitely would not have aged well, but that doesn't spoil the memories I have of them.
Actually, I had the first one earlier this yr and it's still ridiculously good fun. They could stick it on Xbox Live, it'd be the first game I'd be willing to pay so much for.

We need to start a god-damned petiton or some shit to get this game on live
I was definitely more of a Carmageddon 1 guy, but 2 was awesome as well. It had some of the coolest vehicle deformation I've ever seen. Plus, Iron Maiden songs!

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
Thanks a lot, Cemetery man, now I'v got to go and hunt down copies of Carmageddon 1 and 2 and spend most of my time trying to get them to work on my lappy.

Also, one thing I've never heard anyone mention ever is that the music that plays during the intro for Carmageddon 1 is the exact same music that play during the second half of the Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight in the first MK movie.
I remember getting both the UK version (Carmageddon TDR 2000) and the US version (Carmageddon 3). Sadly at that point in the internet the only way to reliably play online was through Gamespy Arcade, but I had more luck playing with brits than anything else. It took months before US players and UK players could even play together. :x
While a disappointing game, it was still fun to drive around aimlessly. Of course, 1 and 2 are still superior, but god damn, I'd plunk down the cash for a fourth game or an XBL version. I don't even think SCi exists anymore.
Someone tell those guys to make another friggin game already! I found my discs of 1,2 and 3. I think when I'm off around Christmas I'll be torching some peds with the flamethrower.
man YES. the first two games are definitely some of my favorite games ever. me and my brothers would spend so much time wreaking havoc laughing our asses off. i would buy whatever system they made a new one for, no questions asked.

No one will care, but it bothered the hell out of me 10 years ago!
They're both the track "Zero Signal" by Fear Factory. Its from their best album, Demanufacture. I recall that the original Carmageddon had five or six of their songs for the soundtrack.
My fave power ups were in Carmageddon 2, the springs. Whether you were blasting pedestrians into orbit or sending opposing vehicles smashing into the nearby buildings, tons of fun.

The 2nd one rocked! Usually it seems the only one most people dislike is the 3rd. I thought 2 was highly regarded by just about all fans.

Just to piss you off, a very awesome Carmageddon 2 vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFTRHZQxQ6Y&NR=1
Aww, I made msyelf sad that I can't play it....
This video from Carmageddon 1 is even crazier. The best part is around 6:20.
This one is pretty sweet too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnlWwQ2WYD8&feature=related
I never did find out what the deal was with that.
For comparison's sake: Carmageddon vs. MK

I would go out and buy either console for it alone...because, you know...I'm poor.
It was the first game that really did that if I remember.
Also, who remembers Quarantine?
