This is HUGE. We finally have confirmation that characters not only get color swaps, but costume changes as well. This opens the door for tons of things -- Mario and Dr. Mario, Lucas and Ness, Ike and Roy, Mega Man and X, Zelda and OOT Zelda, Young Link and WW Link...
Only Wario has this option.
No, it says wario alone is special. Well duh.. he's a little touched in the head, alright.
Yeah, the US site is updated now, and it's just Wario that has that option. I guess I don't really understand why they decided to just have the option for him...maybe it's since it's actually supposed to be the same character as opposed to Lucas/Ness, Ike/Roy, etc.?
Edit: It occurs to me...this means that Wario has at least 11 different color options, doesn't it?

I choose to believe! :P
There is literally no way to confuse the wording here. I respect your unwavering faith to the concept though.

Actually, someone 3 posts before us pointed out a very plausable scenario. The other character model swaps are changing the character, where Wario remains the same guy.
I assume that they're including the classic costume for people who aren't familiar with WarioWare, especially since he's still appearing in his overalls in the new party and sports games.

That's logical.
If you ignore the fact that Melee had no qualms about expanding the charater select screen for clones and the like.

This game has a ton more characters than Melee, however, and screen space is going to be a premium. Plus, the "clones" weren't really -- they all had slightly changed mechanics and such. If you were to consider character model swaps as clones, it would make sense to consolidate them like this instead of giving them their own slot.
As others have said, I'm happy that purple overalls Wario is definitely incorporated in Brawl. This also looks to be a promising start for this week. I look forward to the future.

I retract my earlier statement. It is indeed possible to misinterpret the wording in the update.
Carry on.

Bah, nice as Overalls Wario is, it's not looking likely that anyone else gets that bonus. Now the question is: does Kirby have a separate hat for him? Given that Wario gets a second "character portrait" on the select screen, maybe it will treat him as different.

I am generally confused by this exchange.
Don't be. I'm holding out that somewhere, somehow, there will be at least 1 more character who has a model change in their costumes, and King there is saying I'm wrong. We won't be able to resolve it until the game is released.
Well, technically you could say this doesn't 100% rule out someone like Ness as an "alt costume." But I'm not getting my hopes up now. The update seems very explicit that only Wario can access a new look through the color changes.
This is a good update though for people who like Wario(apparently a pretty small demographic). This request comes up all the time, even if his moveset is still based on Warioware.
I don't care if it says "Wario alone". They're fools if they don't at least use the same concept for Pokemon Trainer and give us the different generation protagonists. It would be a metric fuckton of costume options though, what with 4 different colours for each model. But still. I can't think of any drastically different costumes any other characters would have outside of flat-out clones. But this... this is tailor made for PT.

I assume you mean the actual human boy, as there's a difference between Charizard and say, Infernape.

the pokemon trainer changes colors only, i think it was in the kirby update someone noticed it.
Heh. They go through the trouble of pointing out that it's for just Wario and still the response is "Ah-ha, by Wario only they really mean... not that."

Not that it necessarily means anything. I'm almost certain we've seen the alt colours of Wario before.
And yes, I was referring to the human trainer, not the actual pokemon. Still kind of a bummer if they ignore a perfect opportunity, but eh, I'll live.

I'm guessing that if they're going to have any "clone" characters they'll be separate choices. In Melee the clones all had changes in how they played and so they were essentially a different character, but in Wario's case they decided they didn't want a clone but wanted the traditional Wario still in the game and came up with this. As such, it confirms Wario's the only character that doesn't have a clone and that's about all it confirms.

This is the standard Wario found in Smash.
Everyone can change colours, of course. But Wario alone is special...
Look! Wario is in overalls!
There may be some people who prefer this one. This is the "classic" Wario.
Flab is poking out from his sides...
Choose him just like you would any of the other characters. This outfit appears after the six standard colour variations.
Press the X or Y Button, or poke the pattern to change colours.
What’s more, this version has its own colour variations. What a bonus!
Oh! Talk about individualised!

Edit: I also like the alt that gives him the classic Mario colors to kinda rival the fact that Mario has Wario colors.
