Hey, super-specific problem thread.
So I've got Xbox Media Center running just fine. Unfortunately, I have a bunch of movies that I encoded with Nero Recode (using MPEG4 and AAC,
not the AVC which I know the Xbox doesn't necessarily have the horsepower to handle). Anyway, almost all of them seem to also have subtitles encoded. But for some reason, while XBMC handles decoding the video/audio just fine, it "stutters" half the time whenever a subtitle comes up. Basically for whatever reason (I'm guessing because the subtitles are stored in a separate section of the file) it drops the cache when looking for a subtitle if it hasn't played one for the last 6-10 seconds or so.
So during heavy dialog it's not an issue, but if somebody is saying a (subtitles) line after a few seconds of none, cache is dropped and then frames are dropped...either because it has to recache from the network
or because it has to re-cache from the hard drive...it's
less noticeable from the HD, but still causes obvious frame drops that are unacceptable for watching a movie.
I'm looking for possible suggestions as to A) why it does this, and
how I can fix it.
Oh, the video files are in .MP4 format, MPEG4 video AAC audio and encoded using a Quicktime compatibility profile.
