It had the Samurai dual-blade arms, so you could do that. Me? I took Zinaida out with dual rifles, and just boosted backwards around the whole arena constantly firing at her. Ended with like 300AP and 4 shots left, but it worked.

AC has always sucked ass split screen.

Edit: That is in no way saying that I thought multi player sucked. I just always hated dealing with split.

So yeah guys, it's out now. Anyone pick it up yet? I'm about to throw it in for the first time now and see what the co-op is like.

    Hope it's good.

I don't have it yet, I'll try and pick up a copy tomorrow along with Dragon Quest IV and some non-related items. I'm really excited (not just about this, but still!)

So, apparently you can't fucking do single system co-op. It says "co-op 2" in green on the back, indicating there is non-Live co-op. They also have "co-op 2" in orange for Live.

But then in the book, it says split-screen can only do versus, no co-op.

    Fucking annoying.

I'm hearing a lot of "don't take independent faction" on the interwebs. Apparently, when you go the indy merc route, you start with a shitty generator and can't buy parts for ages.

The other factions are okay. Personally, I took the European one because of the Tellus parts and laser weaponry, which is always nice to have for S-ranking missions.

The controls are more customizable this time around, which is a blessing. I am finally able to move unused buttons like the pointless view reset to the D-pad. And the weapons can be set to jettison automatically when empty, which is awesome. The only problem I have with the controls this time around is that some commands are automatically set based your button assignments. So after I got the main controls set up exactly the way I wanted them, I found myself with impossible commands for manually dropping weapons and using Assault Armor. The weapon drop command wanted Left & Right on the D-Pad... at the same time. o_O

Shit. Mabe I should start over. I only made it a few missions in. Though I spent so much time in the garage changing color and whatnot I really don't want to do it again. But then again, I'm good enough to handle a cheap mech for a little bit.

I'm kinda glad that the flying bits are actually just a giant ass rocket on your back rather than the mech transforming into a jet. I didn't really want that.

Sounds like you're handling it. May as well keep going as long as it stays manageable. From what I hear, the difficulty spike hits at around mission 9.

Just wanted to give people a heads-up, since it could really adversely affect someone's first impressions of the game if they try the most punishingly difficult path.

Mainly cause of what Hunter said. Its a very steep learning curve. Its like someone thats never played an RPG try FF Tactics.

But man, no game has ever given me as much of a rush as a high ranking arena fight.

The best thing about the tough arena fights in AC4 is, they're difficult for the right reasons. If they're cheating, it's not obvious to me the way it was in previous titles, where Ten Ton would float around in his absurdly overweight airborne tank and Etzam Nar could fire an energy machinegun nonstop which would drain any player-designed AC's generator in about a second.

I'm not even gonna speak of Nineball.

Well, lord knows I didn't buy AC cause I thought it'd be easy.

What are the benafits of going merc then? I assumed it would be that I can buy all the parts, where as a company AC won't be able to get some of the other companies. Is that right?

Hmm. Speaking of factions and stuff, when I started I picked GA and I've been noticing that while I usually have a GA mission to do, there's one or two from other companies. I've been doing Omer missions, and after a while it unlocked a set of Omer parts for me to buy. So I'm figuring that you've got some invisible Faction Friendliness meters, and when that bumps up to a certain level from doing mission for them it'll give you associated parts.

    Also:

I have the hardest time in 4 regarding difficulty.

I don't know if it is the new control scheme, but I feel a lot more confident playing this. It just seems easier to me.

Not baby easy, but the learning curve seems to have been lowered a bit.

Stabilizers are mainly used to balance out the weight on your AC, in the event that you do something like mount a heavy cannon on one shoulder and nothing on the other. Having your AC off balance means you'll have more inertia in that direction. If your weight's forward you'll have a harder time stopping when boosting forward, and so on. The graph on the Stabilizer setup is pretty straightforward, it shows the +- value for your left/right leaning, and for front/back. The diamond shape shows how much weight you've got in each direction. What this means is that if you've got a heavy right cannon, and balance it out with stabilizers on your left, the left/right value will be 0, but to compensate you'll now have extra weight on your left side. If you jettison your cannon mid-mission, you'll suddenly find your AC left-heavy.

The other (arguably more important) thing that stabilizers do is make your AC look totally awesome. I mean, seriously. Badass fins and spikes and shit that you can add wherever you want.

Would it be counterproductive to balance a speed mech forward? Or should you always aim for a center of balance?

And yeah, gundam crests and back blades and shit. Awesome.

Stop it. Its cruel to hear that they finally made an AC game with such features. I need this now. I need it so hard.
