Audio Static - Computer Front Audio Ports (shielding?)

Hello, I have a tech-support question for anyone that may have any suggestions.

I built my computer, and it has two sets of audio ports. The back-panel set is on the rear of the case, on my soundcard that is plugged into the motherboard. The front audio ports (microphone and headphone) are located on the front of the case. I have an internal cable that connects the soundcard to the front audio ports (this is inside the case if I haven't made that clear).

My problem is that my non-usb headset microphone/audio feed have a fair bit of static when plugged into the front audio ports. This problem does not occur when I plug them into the back panel ports. I'm farily certain that this is caused by electromagnetic interference inside my case from the Power Supply cables being near my internal microphone/audio header cable (from the soundcard to front ports on case). I have tried my best to isolate the internal audio cable from the power supply unit and it's power cables (and that did help somewhat) but I'm still not satisfied.

Here are the options as I see them, please chime in with any informed opnions:
1. Buy a USB headset. This is the simplest solution but I'd prefer to stick with my current situation, both for fidelity reasons and the fact that USB headsets have their own idiosyncrasies and driver issues.
2. Attempt to shield my internal audio cable from magnetic interference. I've read that you can use something as simple as aluminum foil to wrap around the cable and fix everything. Does this work? Do I need to make the Aluminum foil touch my case to ground it? It this pure witchcraft?
3. Buy a new type of self-shielded internal audio cable that interfaces with my sound card. This would be possible but tough since I don't know which product is the best, and it may require re-soldering some connectors on my case.

Thanks in advance,
-Malcolm

Aluminum foil would work as a shielding, assuming it was indeed bonded (connected) with the PC case (assuming your PC case is properly grounded as well, but it should be). Obviously it won't be anywhere near as good as properly-shielded cables, but it might just make enough of a difference for you to be happy. \

Failing that, before you go out and buy a shielded cable, where did you get the existing cable to connect your front ports to your soundcard. Is it something you bought separately, or did it come with your soundcard? If it came with it, I'd contact the manufacturer and request a cable that way.

The cable came with the Sound Card, which came bundled with the Abit Motherboard so I'm sure it's a cheapo one. Thanks for the advice I'll look into either getting a free cable or trying some foil.
