Sinus Infection aftermath

I had a bad sinus infection during Thanksgiving week. I went to the doctor and got the antibiotics, over the counter cold medicine and nasal spray. Everything was fine, had a minor relapse few weeks later but I am feeling great.

My only problem is phlegm I have so much when I wake up. Its not decreasing nor thinning out. Also sometimes it would come out red/brown in small quantities, most likely blood but appears to be dry.

Being the season of people being sick I hope someone may have similar symptoms to offer some home remedies. And my nose, not to be gross, is building up so much mucus (boogers). I thinking the weather where I live might be the cause of this but I don't want to go to doctor again to get stronger medicine to mild sickness.

well a lot of the over the counter stuff is meant to get things flowing so to speak to help cycle out the mucus that is on overdrive as a result of the infection. just finish up the course of antibiotics and you should be fine

just carry some tissues with ya

Get a Sinus Rinse kit. It is basically a squeezy bottle that comes with little salt packages that you mix with water, then blast up your nose and recoil in horror as the mucous is expelled from the other nostril. Rinse and repeat!

    Honestly, it feels good afterwards.

Got the name brand? Just to go to right now and get it.

Seconded. I get rather severe allergies during some parts of the year, and I use one of these myself (and my wife has been using it while she has a bad cold) - it feels quite weird the first time, but it definately can help quite a bit.

The kit I have is made by NeilMed or something like that, but there's probably others out there as well.

Seriously. These things rock. I felt a sinus infection coming on at the beginning of this week (I have a LONG history of them) and started using it twice a day. I feel fine now. My doctor turned me on to it 4 years ago and it's helped me out with my sinus infections and any allergy flair ups I get. It really is amazing how well it cleans your sinuses out.

Yo I'll put my vote towards a netipot too... if you want a name brand I use SinuCleanse which I picked up at Walgreene's. It was recommended to me by my Ear Nose and Throat doctor before I had sinus surgery (my sinus are the wooooorst). You won't believe what this thing can do... and I know people like their sinus spray bottles but I just don't think they do nearly as much as the full blown netipot.... blowing your nose after using this thing? grooooooss... but better out than in

I used a product called "Mucocin" i got from CVS a while back..

it really cleared out any mucus I had. There are a couple varieties.. an over the counter, and an over the counter you need to give a drivers license over for because it can me made into other drugs.

Obviously one is more powerful.. I suggest that one.

Neti pot? wow.. i didn't know things were connected like that. I'm going to try that now, my nose is stuffed.

AYR makes a good one - and bend forward or you'll know why waterboarding is considered torture.

If you can't clear one side or the other, use Afrin or another nasal spray to open things up temporarily so you can clean house. Use warm, but not hot, water, cold water is like inhaling seawater.

I had two sinus infections this year and I wish I knew about the Neti much sooner. I have never used it but it looks like it would work wonders.
