Yap Yap Yap, shut up and tell me about the combat!
Combat is similar to a first person shooter, it is based in real time and you must aim a targeting reticule at your target then fire. Auto-aim and Auto-fire features are available but in fighting in real time you earn the chance to maximize your damage. There are special abilities such as healing, buff/debuffing and crowd control.
Alright, I know what I can do in SWG, where can I go?

The 10 large planets are Tatooine, Naboo, Corellia, Talus, Rori, Dantooine, Lok, Yavin IV, the forest moon of Endor, and Dathomir and the two smaller planets are Kashyyyk and Mustafar.

Wow, it sounds great but... where are teh pretties?
Alright, I'm in where can I find it?
Right now Direct2Drive has Star Wars Galaxies - The Complete Online Adventures for
$19.99 which included the first 30 days free.(This included the original game with all expansion packs, a DVD of never-before released bonus features, a slide show of more than 800 pieces of Star Wars Galaxies concept art and screen shots, all set to more than an hour of orchestral Star Wars Galaxies in-game music, excerpts from the popular “From Pencil to Pixel” book that chronicles the art of Star Wars Galaxies and interviews with the Star Wars Galaxies producers, and all the cinematic trailers for the game. It also included an exclusive in-game item for use while playing – a personal AT-RT vehicle as seen in "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith")
Buy Star Wars GalaxiesIs there a trial?
In fact there is, it is a 14 day trial but, you are limited to a very small part of the game. The quests on the trial station really give you an alright idea of what the game is actually like and they don't limit how many characters you create and delete on the trial so you can try all the available classes.
Star Wars Galaxies Trial
I just started playing and I figured I'd throw up a thread to see if anyone else plays or to possibly drum up some interest. Be gentle, I just threw the OP together quickly. Also, I know alot of people don't like SWG and that is fine, I'm just going to say it now to get it out of the way... Pre-CU was better. There it is said now you don't have to. Quite a bit of this information comes from the Star Wars Galaxies wikipedia entry, if I find it to be untrue or you know otherwise let me know and I will fix the OP.

Unless it was just the space combat.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
If you have a massive player base that up and leaves because of a sudden "Overnight" change, would you not learn from this?
That being said, aren't they shutting SWG down?
Started up a program that let players demolish those abandoned cities and get points for goodies for doing so.
The old abandoned cities were then replaced with new cities that were promptly abandoned.

Will SWG actually go away? I dunno, not privy to the details of the licensing agreement with Lucasfilm, but I imagine the Flannel One made his Imperial Advisors include an end date with extensions possible but not guaranteed. Certainly there is a no-compete clause, so SWG could not continue to charge directly, but Sony has already found a (brilliant) way around that...
Thought I would download the 14-day free trial just for a laugh. After a couple hours of download and install time I fire up the launcher just to be met with "You don't have a subscription to this game".
no help files, no read-me texts, no info on the station website.
They really are striving to set a new low in customer support.
Well the trial web page doesn't have the key.
The downloaded files do not include a key.
Installing via the 14daytrial.exe does not add the key.
The account homepage, or any page inside my station account doesn't list a key.........
So I guess my question is, where do I find the key?

I have never claimed, nor will I ever claim that SWG is not a good MMO. But I will reiterate that it is NOT what it advertises itself to be.
That's where most people take issue with it.
You said it.
SWG: Biggest dissapointment of the MMOG world to date.
I remember reading about it 3 years before it came out and signed up, but never got into, the closed beta program. (wrong country most likely)
Simply not star wars.
The biggest dissappoint was that the game mechanics in concept were awesome. The delivery absolutely blew. Judging by the current popularity, it has most likely not improved that much.
On another note, the Emulator SWGEmu, is coming along slow, but steady. I've played around on it and its coming, but they got a long way to go. I don't really see it being fully functional for at least another year. The website is, predictably, www.swgemu.com
By the Fires of Muspelheim!!
'Wookish' was cool...until they allowed everyone to learn every language.. negating the use of them
Grinds were still there... level 1 - 100 medpacks level 2 -1000 medpacks, lvl 3 - 10000 medpacks.. there was no getting around it.
When the playerbase hit the industrial level, and started making extractors.. they appeared over all available good space.. so they made the world change every few days .. changing the minerals found in the ground.
It was my second mmo, and even I could see that nobody had any idea of what was going on. That, and the 90% 'bounty hunters' in the game
Librarians harbor a terrible secret. Find it.
I will probably regret this.
Fixed.
Weren't we surprised when it released....
The fact that it took a party to take down one storm trooper says it all. And the day I saw a player running around with an AT-ST as a pet. Well that is the day I left and never looked back.
Critical Failures - Havenhold Campaign • August St. Cloud (Human Ranger)
Once aboard we encountered our first Rebel trooper...
... and were promptly met with a quick death. We respawned and tried again. Another quick and horrible death. Someone broke and ran during the second ran, running back into the spawn area. As a result the rest of us spawned only to have the Rebel staring at us with a menacing look, shooting us as we scrambled for the escape pod. I don't believe any of us made it out of there intact.
Jedi.
Another?
Omnicron. Holocron...cron job??
I remember my first encouter with a jedi. It was in a city. He was running for his life as THE ENTIRE CITY was trying to kill him. Because they could.
Who would have thought that everyone in the game would want to be a jedi and having more than a handful would ruin the game considering the period and the power difference?
Oh wait, everyone EXCEPT the SWG devs.
Somewhere a young Mon Calamari languishes, a house full of ship parts and shiny X-Wing untouched...

PvP was great too, bleeding people's Mind stat with aoe poisons was fun as hell.
Our guild was the second on the server to setup a full city. I remember the day player cities were gonna be put in, everyone racing to the spots that they wanted their city to be as soon as the servers came up, so that they could build it there. The terrain had to be completely flat, or else you couldn't build there, so trying to find a spot was scarce. My guild actually scouted out planets and shit on where to place our town. We ended up on Naboo on this huge flat plain, it was great.
I actually had alot of fun, but then I decided to quit when another friend told me about wow, and I'm glad I left when I did, before the combat revamp and NGE.
