I can't find any news at all other than this trailer, and a paragraph of stuff from a Wiki:
Biohazard: Degeneration is the first full-length CG animation feature based upon the Resident Evil series of games and films. It was announced by Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan on October 29, 2007. It is currently in production, with plans for a release in 2008.
On November 10, 2007, Capcom announced that the cast had been set, but did not unveil them. The film will feature a "brand new storyline", promotional footage suggests that the film will be set "7 years from Raccoon City" (the events of Resident Evil 2), showing Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
That would put it after RE4, and Leon looks dressed to match. Think we could get some Advent Children-level production values and visuals out of this?
Fuck you. The RE movies were much better than you make them out to be. :P
Still, this is the game-based thing everyone wished for. Even with the cheesiness we've come to expect from RE, without the groan-inducing problems of it being live-action.
It could even lead into RE5.
I liked the first RE movie. I'll rent Extinction, and give it a chance.
oh man the third one was fucking awful. lets have an entire cast that you care about and learn about through an entire movie, and then half way through just have them leave and not find out what happens. awesome.
Yeah, sorry but the RE movies sucked pretty bad man. Really bad actually. In fact, I only barely recognize Apocalypse as a Resident Evil movie while the other two are bad enough that I just like to pretend they didn't exist.

Oh, so they were merely turgid shit instead of full-on colon blow?
Bite me Pb. :P
/CapcomWhore.
That's not being a whore, that's being a sucker.
On the trailer though, they might want to spend less time rendering jets and more time on legs/hips when people walk. I don't know why I picked that out, but for some reason it really struck me. Maybe because everything else looked pretty nice.

Hmmm. Either way, they're better than any other video game -> movie adaption out there. I recognize them as good because they fulfill 2 of 3 "good movie" checkboxes for my personal tastes.
Zombies
Guns (must hold two guns at once)
Titties
I'm easy to please, but if a movie has Zombies in it... It's in my top 100 movies already.
It's from Sony Pictures so it will get a Blu-Ray release. Will the original voices be in English like RE4, or will it be dubbed, I wonder? It looks pretty but some of the animation is stiff. I hope the budget isn't small-time.

So by that formula Uwe Boll's House of the Dead must be your favourite movie ever.
But not the sequel. Anderson was smart enough to drop MK after the first go.
Resident Evil, apparently, not so much.
yet MK was so much better than RE. Largely because it stuck closely to the original source.
I consider MK to be the ultimate video game -> movie adaptation simply because it's damn good kung fu flick even if you ignore the video game fandom. In other words, as a movie, it can stand on it's own legs and still be enjoyable.

I see what you did there.
Leon makes me angry. Part of me wants to like him, because he is a certified badass, and he shoots guns and runs around and suplexes plagas like nobodies business all the while hitting on the hot codec chick.
Part of me hates him because he was pretty much a huge whiny bitch throughout the entirety of Resident Evil 2. When he wasn't busy freaking out or getting shot or screaming "ADA, WAIT!" every five seconds, he was
pussing out at the end, hiding under the train and moaning "I can't hold on much longer" while fucking Sherry Birkin (who is a seven year old fucking girl) is actually stopping the train, and Claire is fighting the giant mutated freakishly huge version of William Birkin.
I'm glad this is something that is sticking to the game's continuity than the movie's. The movie series was ok for a cheap action zombie movie, but (especially the third one) it was hardly connected with the RE universe. You could have removed any reference to Umbrella and it would have just been another Zombie B movie with really good production values.
I'm really stoked for a new RE movie that is made by Capcom and sticks to the original source. Hopefully it kicks enough ass to lead to a more classical Resident Evil 5.
Mortal Kombat was awesome when I watched it when it first came out. I fear watching it now, having grown up a fair bit (I'm 26 now, I think I'd have been 12 when it came out, I seem to remember trying to get in to the cinema to watch it). I've got it on video at home.
MORTAL KOMBAT! LOU KANG! JOHNNY CAGE! SUB ZERO! SCORPION! MORTAL KOMBAT!
The first RE movie wasn't so bad, though some of the action scenes were retarded (like pretty much all the hand to hand fighting with zombies). The second and third movies were god-damn awful though, they seemed more like fan-made Living Dead ripoffs (albeit with a pretty big budget) than Resident Evil movies.
Anyway, this looks great. As someone that enjoyed Advent Children for what it is, fan service, I'd love to see more franchises get this kind of treatment (especially DMC or Metal Gear).
I quite enjoyed the 3rd film, it wasn't as bad as the first two. It wasn't really an RE film but it was enjoyable enough as a bit of a mad max style romp.

You're kidding, right?

they remove all the characters but Alice and the doctor and those characters never even find out what happens and we don't see what happens to them! Not to mention the mind-exploding crows. @_@

I still remember the last full CGI effort for a RE flick:

In a bleak future...where cans roam the streets...
With all the slashfic out there, I just figured it was cannon by now to have Sephiroth, Cloud, Goku and Vegeta in the same universe.
If this is getting all that messy Alice nonsense out of the way, then this one should be excellent.
Is Anderson on the writing, or someone else(I haven't decided which means good things)?

I'm gonna go watch my DVD right now, in fact.
That ALONE makes it awesome.

well, we still dont know if the movie has knifes or midgets.
I can't wait for the one liners in the movie.
"I guess those passengers won't be joining the mile high club today."
I think they've already destroyed the continuity beyond repair, with the whole 'zombies conquered the whole world' thing.
I see what you did there.

You're not the only one.
I could tell you some horror stories about the 3rd movie:
In one scene...
And at the end...
The first Resident Evil was pretty good, but much like Umbrella's experiments, they went horribly, horribly wrong.

Dude what the fuck? That sounds horrible.
And Leon is in this? Even better.
