If it's his top priority, why does X-Force 1 open with him chilling in Colorado while Scott sends X-23 to North Dakota?
BTW, the page by page commentary on CBR is neat. And their artist was right about the weapons bunker, not least of all because otherwise it fucks with Avengers: Initiative where Camp Hammond has a whole fucking room of Omega-class weapons it took off supervillains.
I finally ordered Dan Hipp's Gyakushu! Vol 1 and am eagerly looking forward to its arrival. I ordered it from Borders. I was going to order it from the comic store, but the guy at the desk was not very helpful. Seemed more interested in watching something on TLC or something instead of doing his job. I got it for less than 8 dollars with my wife's employee discount and it will come right to my mailbox! I am going to order vol2 as soon as I can afford it, probably also from Borders.
As much as I want to dislike the idea of Final Crisis, I'm a total homp for Morrison. The question is, is it worth me catching up on countdown before the Crisis starts up, or shall I just jump in with issue 1 in April?

You could, and probably should, depending on how issue #1 plays out..you not get the whole gist of it. If you're going to, I'd start with issue #25 or #24, the series does a complete 180 from there on out. Issue #26 was a recap issue, which didn't serve much of a purpose to those currently reading, but would be worth looking into for someone such as yourself.
also Wolverine's secondary mutation has been to be in all places at once since about 1990 or so...just roll with it.
His healing factor is so exaggerated now that every time he loses a limb, it grows into a full size, regular Wolverine. Kind of like when you cut a worm in half. So there are actually dozens of Wolverines roaming around the MU.
There's actually already an Absolute Planetary Volume 2 that is more widely available than the first one and so cheaper. I'm sure there'll be an Absolute Planetary Volume 3 once the last ish comes out.
You're thinking of Absoute Authority, I think.
Yeah, I think I probably am. Sorry for the confusion!

I kind of disagree on this point. Countdown certainly got better after the halfway mark, but it's still been a complete hit-or-miss series, and a lot of the stuff has still been pretty crappy.
That said, DC Universe Zero was just announced in DC Nation as the final issue of Countdown, and supposedly it's a 50 cent comic that'll explain the state of the DCU prior to Final Crisis. It's a nice idea, kind of like DC admitting, "Yeah, this 52-issue series was shit, our bad."
So I was looking at the top 100 sales charts they just put up on Newsarama.com and a few things worried and confused me. Several really good series like Death of the New Gods, Countdown to Mystery, Gotham Underground, and Black Adam: Dark Age sold much worse than I thought. That and Ms. Marvel was all the way down at #97. I hope that Secret Invasion tie-ins can save its sales. So does anyone have a good explanation as to why The Boys is outselling some of the books I listed above and Nova? The Boys has got to be the worst work Ennis has ever done.

A lot of people have shit taste. Plain and simple.
Ms. Marvel will definitely get a boost when Secret Invasion hits that'll probably keep it going for at least another year, I bet, but after that, I don't know.
Speaking of the comic sales, DC took a beating this month. I think they had like 2 titles in the top 20 or something. And what was that lone non-Marvel title in the top 10? Project Superpowers for $1.00? Is that that Alex Ross book or something I remember hearing about. I know I didn't pick it up, which is odd if it made top 10.

Yeah thats probably about the best answer I could hope for basically. I know I have some interests that some may shake their head at (being a fan of Civil War and Identity Crisis for starters) but there are some REALLY good books getting ignored. This also shows me that the two shops I frequent do not reflect in any way the sales charts shown here. If you aren't foldering Checkmate, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and when it was going Black Adam your chances of finding a shelf copy after Wednesday were low because they moved so quick.
So... Messiah Complex. I haven't read it yet (waiting for the trade) but I thought it was going to settle the whole "No More Mutants" thing... but I guess it didn't? Was there an explanation for why a new mutant baby was born, and does this mean other mutants are now being born from this point forward?

Nope, the baby was born but none of those questions are solved. All of Messiah Complex is various parties fighting over said baby. We know she's a powerful mutant that will impact the future and... that's about it.
So I read tycho's post from Friday, I know I'm like a million years behind in internet times so sorry if this has already been beaten to death, and I was wondering what you guys thought about the linked article about video games in pop culture he brought up while talking about his mom. The writer attempts to make the connection that both comic books and video games are trying to be movie instead of just being their own medium. I thought the whole thing seems to trip over itself since he also talks about how they display themselves as a childish thing. I agree that many comics do both of these things but if you don't want them to be over the top spandex and pouch covered meat heads and you don't think they should be attempting to emulate hollywood cinema what does he think comics should be? I know this isn't the main point of the article but his view of comics as a medium put me off to everything else he had to say. What do you guys think?
This might be the wrong place for this but I wanted to talk about it in GV and didn't really see anything that looked like it would fit.
There are multiple comic books/graphic novels that have gained a lot of acclaim from literary critics and whatever.
Comics are kind of at a point now where a lot of good non-superhero stuff (and some stuff with superheroes) is able to gain a level of respect as a work rather than just being dumped off as crap just because of the format. Some of that has to do with stuff like American Splendor, Ghost World and A History of Violence being made into films, and I think some of it has to do with a lack of real important stuff coming out of traditional novels anymore. And some of it stems from the quality of stuff like Watchmen and Sandman.
Stuff in comics still doesn't get a whole lot of mainstream praise and attention because print runs are smaller and people don't always pay attention, but most mainstream critics are past the whole "a comics are pulp crap" phase anymore, I think.
That's nonsense. Don't video games already make more than movies domestically?
Why would they want to go backwards?
And sure the comic industry probably wants to be bigger. Why wouldn't they? Thirteen years ago Uncanny sold over half a million floppies. Now ASM is crazy high at 180k. They're just trying to get back to where they were, and part of that is to become the mainstay comics always have been in spite of critics' ignorant derision to the contrary.

Yeah, it was a great massage but then instead of a happy ending the girl just slapped us on the ass and wished us well on the next six monthly visits we were asked to follow up with until... whenever.

Just look at it this way, those people won't survive the great disaster. Their bodies wont adapt because they have no souls.
Oh well, as long as the quality remains the same...I can remain content.
