That's nonsense. Don't video games already make more than movies domestically?
Why would they want to go backwards?
And sure the comic industry probably wants to be bigger. Why wouldn't they? Thirteen years ago Uncanny sold over half a million floppies. Now ASM is crazy high at 180k. They're just trying to get back to where they were, and part of that is to become the mainstay comics always have been in spite of critics' ignorant derision to the contrary.
I can't see things like 500k copies sold or a million for X-Men #1 or whatever. I'm pretty sure most of those were shipped or sent to newstand and then returned and pulped as Marvel refunded the newstand market (like magazines are handled) and in turn lead to a lot of the losses and crash of the market. That and speculators I suppose. Maybe it did sell 500k+, but I'm thinking it's a shipped vs sold and doesn't exclude returns.
That seems much more probable. Is that the case for the Golden Age and Silver Age too? I read somewhere that Superman or something used to sell half a million consistently. Before McCarthyism got to comics and all of that crap.

according to Marvel’s published Statement Of Ownership, covering the period of 1994, thirteen years ago, "Uncanny X-Men" sold an average of 525,967 retail copies, and "X-Men" sold 593,883.

From Lying in the Gutters, a rumour column that posts nothing to back up any of his claims. I don't doubt they did it though, but I also think there's some accounting fudging of numbers that aren't being added or subtracted from totals. Like, I know you can tear off covers and send books back when they were newstands after the month on the cover came up (note how most magazines have March for a January issue on it, it's like a stop selling at this date sticker). Most sales data would be published before then and based on shipped, ignoring most newstand non-sales.
I'm pretty sure I'm wrong though, as the industry was much 'healthier' with the multiple covers and speculators inflating everything, so, I'll take the numbers at value. Howeve,r I find it hard to believe Millar would go so far with his claims about sales if he didn't have some kind of proof from Marvel to back it up.
It could be. I'm just repeating what I read. But it does fit with what I've seen at the local comic stores between that time and now. The ones left, that is.

Johnston is pretty good at what he does though, and he's been doing it for years. He also warns you if any rumor he posts is insubstantial.
Plus, he backs up anything he claims with evidence if (1) he has it and (2) he has permission to do so.
Usually reason (2) is why we don't see much in the way of substantiation, but because he does so, it allows him to maintain his credibility and the likeliness of people spilling info to him rises.
I'm kind of not surprised that Onslaught sold better than IIF, because retailers seem very willing to support Loeb and Liefield. I'd disagree from a quality point of view, though - strongly disagree[/i].
So who drew that variant cover to Cable #1 and accidentally signed Rob Liefield's name on it? On a related-note can someone let Ariel Olivetti know a couple of things about how babies are size-proportioned to people...they are slightly bigger than newborn puppies.
Yeah he's like 6 foot 6 or something isn't he? I don't know maybe I'm just nuts but that baby just looks REALLY small. Like a lot smaller than it looked during MC. I am now officially nitpicking at stupid shit.
Well let's go through the checklist: anime-like white/silver hair, facial scars, glowing eyes, metal arm, vaguely defined mental powers, big guns, pouches, time travel, teleporting abilities, evil clone, evil son, multiple timelines/histories, super-powered parents, alternate versions of himself....Yeah I think Cable covers all the bases. So I was looking at the solicit to Iron Fist #15 and what issue did the Iron Fist in that issue originally debut in? It mentioned him popping up before. I've only currently read 1-7 and the annual. 8-12 are in my to read pile.
DMZ is pretty good, I think there are 2-3 trades out you can check out. As for the comics, it's recently been about 6-7 one-shots focusing on individual characters, and I don't know when the author is planning to get back to the "main story."

When you're a spy, it's a good idea to give away your trade secrets in a voiceover on a TV show.
So the trades are good but recently its just "meh"
The early stuff is good (first 2, maybe 3 trades I'm not sure), but recently I have found myself just not interested in the book, so this weeks was the last for me. It was a cool concept, there was just something missing that I couldn't put my finger on.

That would be why I put "main story" in quotes. There really isn't one.

yeah, i used to get it too, but it wasn't really doing it for me either. it felt a little directionless. maybe i'll come back to it some time, but it doesn't sound like it's gotten better in that regard.

Ahahaha, holy shit. That's hilarious. How does something like that even happen?
Walter Sobchak: Eight-year-olds, Dude. - The Big Lebowski
Only ignorant kids would buy Onslaught when Iron Fist is sitting right the fuck there on the stand looking them in the face.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
