Dean Takahashi over at the San Jose Mercury's got the scoop: BioWare are already hard at work on a Jade Empire sequel. And that it's definitely coming to the Xbox 360. And...that's it. You should be able to fill the rest of the gaps in for yourselves, though: expect Mass Effect's conversation mechanic to feature, expect more martial arts action and thanks to EA's purchasing of BioWare you can probably expect a PS3 version as well.
Here’s an opportunity for BioWare to get it right and for all of you fans out there to rejoice. Rumors have been swirling about the possibility of a sequel to BioWare’s Xbox hit, “Jade Empire.” For years, people have predicted it would come and Ray Muzyka, co-CEO of BioWare, even spilled the beans of something coming back in 2005. But I talked with someone who saw code for Jade Empire 2. It’s coming for the Xbox 360, and it’s real. It’s not much as far as scoops go, but I’m on vacation. What do you expect? Happy New Year.Jade Empire was BioWare’s second big game for the Xbox, following the exclusive Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic title in 2003. It will be interesting to see if Jade Empire 2 will remain an exclusive for the Xbox 360, now that Electronic Arts has agreed to acquire BioWare/Pandemic.
So I didn't play the first one. Is this something to get excited about?

On the subject of Jade empire...are there any asian culture themed games out besides Jade Empire? I like Medieval European fantasy games as much as the next guy but if there others I'd like to try them.
Moderately. Other companies would love to have it be one of their low points, and say what you will about the actual game, it does have potential, and it would be really cool to see Bioware fully follow through on that.
It's interesting how Bioware has been moving away from turns and D&D into real-time action.
I'm the first no in the topic. True that I didn't play JE until 2007, but it failed to impress in every area except graphics.
Not to be a total dick, but is it really fair to say that it "failed to impress in every area except graphics" without playing it? I can understand the whole "saw it, not my thing" view but "failed to impress in every area except graphics" is a pretty harsh criticism to put out there without playing the game.

Actually, I think he says that he didn't play it until 2007 ... which implies that he played it, but a bit late.
I played it near launch. I rather enjoyed it, but it was definitely flawed.

No, you button mash in real-time. One problem with the game was that you pretty much only use one attack through the whole game, changed by your class. The visuals change somewhat (I vaguely recall getting a cool sword), but it still was annoying at points. One cool thing about it was there was a bullet-time-esque thing, even though that has sort of been done to death in action games. But it still looked neat.
I would prefer they focus all of their efforts on ME 2, but oh well. It would be interesting if for once they chose to work from the dark ending, since
you kill the water god and then rule the world with an iron fist iirc

This is where multiple teams come in handy
One for Dragon Age, One for ME and it's related content, One for the MMO, and one for JE2
I'm kind of excited about the fact that this is a next-gen (current-gen?) Bioware game. And Bioware rock, so it will at least be decent enough to warrant a playthrough.
I'm a HUGE fan of the game, so my fanboy blinders went on and my reading skills went out.
I'm very excited. But if they don't bring Cam Clarke to do half the voices in the entire game like he did in the first, I'll be disappointed.
He didn't do that many voices in it, come on.
But he really did have his A-game on for voicing Sky. I actually took him seriously as a character, instead of giggling when he talked.
He did a ton of the little two-bit characters in the Imperial City and what-not and the student in the beginning who rushes in on your meeting with Master Li, Si Pat. But yeah, I like to exaggerate because I'm such a big fan of the characters he gets to do.

Lol. Wish I could help you man, but without saying something along the lines of the Tenchu series or Shogon: Total War, I can't be much help.

I didn't know they were big enough to do that. But even still, wouldn't it be better if they combined everyone and made one giant super-team? ;-) A lot of the ME issues came from time/money limitations, at least that's what the devs on this forum have said, so it seems to me that they shouldn't be branching their resources further. On the other hand, EA has a lot of money. Oh, and you forgot about Sonic RPG and an "interactive entertainment product" that they're making with LucasArts.

Asian culture?
Uh... well... Persona 3... kind of? I mean, you play through a Japanese school year complete with references to holidays and traditions and everything...
Really I am just looking for an excuse to recommend Persona 3.

It's a bit old, but what I remember of Prince of Qin was rather fun. Diablo clone type game set in ancient China. Came out for the PC 4-5 years ago or so.

Dynasty Warriors and the shitton of other games based off Romance of the 3 Kingdoms.

It's on GameTap if you have it. I didn't really get into it, but others may like it.
It was pretty fun, but it was definitely flawed. My main problem with the game was just that it wasn't big enough! I was surprised it was over so quickly, though it did make it easier to play through multiple times. Kinda weird considering how big KoToR is in comparison.
The combat was kinda wonky too, stunning and the War Golem transformation made everything too easy and it felt much shallower than KoToR overall.

I second that yes.

No, entirely real-time.

Read it a bit more ;-)

I suck.
Statement retracted.
I would like to get this answered hehe

He's got a few little one in there, and Private What's-his-name.
FUCKING WORD.

I just hope we get to see more of the Empire this time around.
Oh, and an Eastern invasion/colonisation force as well. Just for laughs.
