Your "Can't Miss" GameCube titles?
Idx86Long days and pleasant nights.Registered Userregular
I intend on taking full advantage of my Wii's backwards compatibility with GameCube as I never had one during its popularity. Before delving into the more current incarnations I'd like to pillage the Cube for as much as I can get out of it.
IGN had a "Top 25" GameCube list which had some solid recommendations, but I trust this community more for recommendations than anything else. Here's my list so far:
Metroid Prime 1
Metroid Prime 2
Zelda: Windwaker
Super Mario Sunshine
Paper Mario
Eternal Darkness
Battalion Wars
What other titles are there on the GameCube that I absolutely cannot miss? FYI - I've already beaten RE4.
2008, 2012, 2014 D&D "Rare With No Sauce" League Fantasy Football Champion!
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time if you haven't played it on another system. I haven't played the third one, because the second one was just so terrible.
Soul Calibur 2 is also worth a look if you ever have friends over. Beware it will make you hate them. Mario Cart Double Dash is also really fun, but probably not a must own since the Wii will surely get a version eventually.
Eternal Darkness
F-Zero GX
Metroid Prime (1+2)
Super Mario Sunshine
LOZ: Wind Waker
Eternal Darkness
Viewtiful Joe
Resident Evil
Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros Melee
Tales of Symphonia
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
These are my top GC games

If you can get it on the cheap and haven't played it on another system Spiderman 2 is also pretty fun. Swinging around the city is the best part of the game, and it doesn't get old until you beat it.
The third one is MUCH better then the second one. The story and atmosphere aren't quite as good as the 1st, but the combat is better. I'd definitely recommend it if you liked Sands of Time.
F-Zero GX is everything that the lovechild of Nintendo and Sega should be. On speed. And it looks as good today as it did the day it came out.
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat is one of the best 2D platformers ever, made by the same team as Super Mario Galaxy, and I would personally say nearly as good (just shorter and a little less polished)
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a bit love/hate, but for the price of entry is worth finding out first hand for sure. A little easy for my liking, but utterly adorable, and visually fantastic.
Rogue Leader/Rebel Strike for Single player/Multiplayer.
Super Mario Sunshine is no way near as bad as Yahtzee and others seem to think, it is a solid platformer.
If you havent played them on another format -
Beyond Good & Evil, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Prince of Persia series (I've not played Warrior within, and others might recomend against it, I just never got round to picking it up), Soul Calibur 2 and Ikaruga
I've been looking for a similar list since christmas, as my girlfriends mother gave us a gamecube. I must say, a lot of GC games are hitting the ridiculous "collector" price faster than I had expected. (Look for a copy of Mario Tennis, for example.) Also, why are Smash Brothers Melee and Double Dash in the $30-35 range, even used? It seems like you can pick up Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader and a few other early gems for a reasonable price, but several first party offerings seem to be a tad high. (Especially confusing since Wind Waker and the Metroid Prime games tend to go for a song.) Also, since I won't have the Wii for some time, I looked into Twilight Princess and was horrified to find that it still sells for $40-50, even used.
God help me for wanting the Zelda Promotional Collection. That certainly isn't cheap.

Though the official internet-play servers are now all shut down, if you've got friends and a decently-sized TV, Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II for Gamecube can still make for many nights of 4-player split screen action/RPG-ing.
If you get good at the game, challenge mode will provide exactly what it says, and there's also several PvP battle modes to slap your friends around in.
Heck, I still enjoy playing it even alone. PSO and Smash Bros. were what prompted my Gamecube purchase back in ... whenever it was.
That list is missing some serious Smash Brothers. Even with Brawl coming out soon, Melee is still one of the greatest games in the history of the GameCube and Brawl probably won't play quite like it. Though I guess it probably is a bit too late.
Also you need one of the Pikmin games. Those are surprisingly fun.
Those Lost Kingdoms games are pretty darn good, and since people around here like CCG's so much...
I want to recommend Metroid Prime 2, as well. It takes a lot of shit for not being quite as atmospheric and explorative as its predecessor. The shooting is more satisfying, the enemies are tougher and it just feels like it has a bit more action than the first.
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker is still my favorite game in the series. It's a real shame that so many insecure people spoke out and Nintendo listend. In fact, I believe that Nintendo averted their ears from the wave of criticism a bit too early, as I'm sure most of those people died down with time as they got deeper and deeper into the game. Twilight Princess is just dull in comparison to WW.
Pikmin 2 is far superior. It left Pikmin 1 obsolete.
I wouldn't say its better. I liked the time limit and the simpler 3 colored Pikmin in 1, but loved the length of 2. You should play them in order because of the differences, though.
One of the most criminally misunderstood games in the history of ever.
Play it now.
It's like Ikaruga only you're piloting a hot chick with super powers.
Also the following:
Tales of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos 1
Baten Kaitos 2
Pikmin 2
Smash Brothers Melee
Double Dash
Wind Waker
Prime 1/2
Killer7
Viewtiful Joe (just the first one)
Skies of Arcadia Legends
F-Zero GX
Eternal Darkness
Soulcalibur II
Odama
Donkey Konga (just the first one)
DK Jungle Beat
Resident Evil 4
REmake
Rogue Squadron: Rebel Strike
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Ikaruga
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Gladius
Chibi-Robo
Batallion Wars
I could go on, but I won't as the list would become tedious at that point.

Beat it again. It's that awesome, and you know it.
The Division, Warframe (XB1)
GT: Tanith 6227
Tales of Symphonia. Super Mario Strikers. Mario Golf.
That's all I can think of that you don't have on your list... More to come I'm sure.
The Division, Warframe (XB1)
GT: Tanith 6227
The Wii version of RE4 is superior to the cube version. Cheaper too, if they're both new.
Your list is pretty good, though. Really for the GameCube you only need to look at most stuff by Nintendo and a handful of other games.
Soul Calibur 2 is also worth a look if you ever have friends over. Beware it will make you hate them. Mario Cart Double Dash is also really fun, but probably not a must own since the Wii will surely get a version eventually.
F-Zero GX

Yes, well, I would expect the port of RE4 to a new console to be better than the original.
And there's no reason to pay full price for the GC version now.
Regarding Prince of Persia 3: You should check it out because they mostly undid the mess they made with PoP2
The Division, Warframe (XB1)
GT: Tanith 6227
Tales of Symphonia,
Eternal Darkness,
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, (if you haven't played the original PSX MGS...)
Also, until newer/better versions pop up for the Wii:
Super Smash Bros. Melee,
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.
The third one is MUCH better then the second one. The story and atmosphere aren't quite as good as the 1st, but the combat is better. I'd definitely recommend it if you liked Sands of Time.

If you lack the previous titles then the Zelda collection can let you catch up on Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask as well as the NES titles.
Also much love from me for Killer 7 and Chibi Robo. Games I'm sure everyone could love if they give them a chance.
God help me for wanting the Zelda Promotional Collection. That certainly isn't cheap.
My buddy lent me the Zelda Collection, and I actually never played MM so that's on the list as well. I've even got an N64 logjam, for chrissake.
I've thought about Double Dash but am waiting to see what the Wii holds for Mario Kart.

Pikmin! You can skip to Pikmin 2 without much loss but both are good.
By "Pikmin" I meant the Pikmin series. Pikmin 2 may be superior, but the first is still certainly worth playing.

I like everything mentioned so far, but now I'm going to get a little weird with you.
You can't miss Baten Kaitos: Origins
You can miss the first one, which while fun and all has a horrendous voice cast and lazy writing.
Origins however is an extremely fun, extremely written slightly off the beaten path CaRDPG.
I guess if you can pick them both up on the cheap, then why not, but I have only seen them both for pretty expensive, in which case I say skip 1.
