That is, if a primordial hut made out of leaves and squirrel bones can be even considered a mall. Back in those days it was though, and it was first, and goddamn we were proud of it. If my history lessons serves me right, it was founded around 1978, and featured two stores. They both sold leaves and squirrel bones, a business model that would soon cause the entire superstructure to collapse.

Built several years after the close of World War II, the original Westgate Center opened in 1954. The first such shopping mall in Greater Cleveland, 8.5 miles (13.7 km) from Downtown's Public Square, and the first suburban shopping mall in Ohio, as one of the first post-war suburban retail centers with department store anchors in the United States, situated on a 55 acre parcel. The original anchors of what was then an open-air plaza of separate stores and outdoor walkways were a 3-level Halle Bros. Co., 3-level Higbee's, a Kroger Supermarket, and a Federal Department Store.

Federal Department Stores? Don't they mean Federated?
Crap, my Ohio roots are showing.

Pfft, Ohio may have had one of the first, but Appleton, WI claims to have had the very first enclosed shopping mall. Looks like they both opened about the same time.
Sadly, Valley Fair is no more. It's been entirely demolished now, and all that's left is the old Kohl's and the budget theater.
Back to the whole flag thing, because I am late to the party, I had to break down and get a U of M flag, if only for the reason that it says Michigan on it. I almost went to the airport here to see if I could find a Traverse City flag, but I was really just too lazy for that.
I wasn't sure if TC would have a flag or not, figured maybe I could find a Cherry Festival one or not. And no, as far as I know the cherry season is done. I think it ended late july, maybe early August. One of the guys I work with his parents own a cherry farm, so a bunch of other people I work with go help out during the busy parts of the season to make some extra money. Me, I like being indoors way too much for that crap.
Too bad Seattle's own Northgate Mall was actually the first mall, opening 4 years before that one in Appleton.
...I really have no place in this thread so I'll leave now...
Valley Fair didn't claim to be the first mall, it claimed to be the first enclosed and climate controlled mall. Westlake and Northgate both started out open air. I'd say we were first because we're all smart and sophisticated up here in WI, but I'm a terrible liar. It's really because it gets goddamn cold in the winter, and all those poor old mall walkers would have frozen.

It (sort of) begins. Very soon, randomguy will be departing to the bus station to make his way here to ohio. Tomorrow, from here we will join with the other CCST group in the area and start our journey westward. Soon, the guys from Houston will also begin their journey. The forces are assembling, and soon we will mobilize. Make way, highway, we're coming.
Yay for Tuesday! Almost packed and really REALLY excited to get on the road!

Holy crap, my laptop plug just shorted and melted in half. Glad this happened now and not tomorrow. Fixing this is just another thing to do tonight after work.

We have an extra 65w adapter if you need it.
I just broke the shit out of my Dell adapter on Sunday with no hope to rush order one. Luckily we have a ton of the 65w variety, so feel free to borrow one for the trip. Probably safer than trying to solder one together. Also, if you broke that middle pin the firmware won't let you charge the battery, only power the lappy.

It was the plug that goes from the wall to the unit that shorted out, so that's really all I need.
