It's good because you say so. Thats how personal opinion works. I mean, if you flip through the book or read a few previews and don't feel interested, ignore it.
I'd think that few comic arcs have real, permanent 5 or 10 year effects. That's the nature of the beast. Complaining that they don't 'matter' is like complaining that a football teams' wins two seasons ago don't count this year.
So, I went and re-read the Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man comic since its in continuity now and everything.
Its good and all but something about it rubs me the wrong way. I guess it just the sudden change in tone from the emotional firestorm we've been getting from JMS these past few years.
The overdrive villain was easily the best part and he has connections to the Mister Negative guy that will play a role in BND.
God I hope this will be good... or OMD will be for nothing.
Overdrive was awesome, and I'd love to see more villains who exist outside of the petty thug with powers, evil genius with powers, and homicidal maniac with powers templates that shape the greater part of Spider-Man's rogues gallery.
You know, setting aside all of my issues with this entire mess and what I think it means for the industry, etc...
... another good question has been raised. Precisely how the fuck is Mary Jane Watson a superhero, and what makes her a superbeing, and how on earth did not getting married affect this? I mean, I kind of like the costume with the butt came and flared pants ( :winky: ), and granted she has very rarely gone up against supervillains before, but those were comedy situations, like "lol 2x4 > Chameleon." What's different that allows her to actually play with the big boys?
From the first issue, so far what we know about Jackpot is that she's not invulnerable, but she may be immune to pain. She's also extremely fit and has some kind of gymnastics/acrobatics training, and since she could kick in the windshield on a semi, I'm guessing she's got some enhanced strength.
Has it been stated that MJ actually is Jackpot or is it just everyone sees red head with big boobs named after MJ's catch phrase and assuming its her? While I won't be surprised if it is, in fact, actually her in the costume, I haven't seen any outright confirmation of it.

From her internal monologue, it's reasonable to assume it's MJ.
So I succumbed to the allure of Dan Slott's writing (love A:Initiative) and bought this. It was alright but did anyone else feel like they were being hit upside the head with "oh brand new day" and other things.
Also did anyone else find themselves counting the "o" faces in that jackpot story?
Man, someone tell Steve that he's not even a quarter as funny as he thinks he is.
Wow... you weren't kidding. I didn't make it more than about three lines into his first response before having to stop reading. His "humor" > my interest in learning more about OMD/BND.

*raises hand*
The "I'm too young to get married" was especially blatant. And Ridiculous.
Pete. You're almost 30, if not already there. What age do you think people marry at?
I didn't think the first issue was awful, or anything near awful, really, but I wasn't an enormous fan, either. It still feels really weird, and something that I can't quite place feels off (useful, I know). The issue is a significant departure from JMS's emotional, change-filled run (which, as I've stated earlier, I really enjoyed for the most part), but I'm not sure that detracts from it. It's a change of pace, for sure, and one that could really be awesome, but right now there are so many loose ends that need to be tied up, and questions that need to be answered, that I'm wary.
I'm not sure if I should spoiler this or not, so I'm going to play it safe and go ahead. Concerning events from the most recent Amazing:
The thing that leapt immediately to mind was Spider-Man's apparent long absence. Where in continuity is this set? The biggest question that I had was how does this affect New Avengers. I mean, I know the team is called the Secret Avengers for a reason, but they've been somewhat high profile recently, and it seems like Spider-Man would have had to have appeared in the media once or twice after stuff like the Venom virus.
Anyway, I enjoyed Slott's writing and McNiven's artwork was excellent, as usual. I'm mostly concerned with where they're going to take the story. With that said, there's been no indication that this is going to go in a bad direction, as of yet, so I'm staying optimistic and hope for some great things to come of this.

I'll say one thing for Brand New Day: if it gives us more stories like Darwyn Cooke's little number at the end of the second ASM harcover, I'm all for it.

Yeah. Slott's really their big gun and he's coming out blazing.
I'm going to start infracting people who take every opportunity to be as big of a bitch as is possible.

That's gonna be a big fucking issue.
It could be a multiple issue story like most comic stories
Stop shooting down my flimsy rationalisations
"Great, another one. And what do you do, little boy?"
"I make the life of everyone around me hell!"
"... yeah, we're gonna get along just swell."

The MJ back-up was decent, I liked Harry's and Aunt May's was....different.
I'm on board for now if they keep this level of quality.
Also Mister Negative is pretty damn awesome.
Man, someone tell Steve that he's not even a quarter as funny as he thinks he is.

Was it Amazing, at least?
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
but I chose not to.

I highly doubt they would have canceled Amazing Fucking Spider-Man instead.
