This was an alright issue, full of setup. I dunno, Guggenheim isn't really one to be quick out of the gate. His best stuff tends to slow burn, and even his shorter story arcs really only start paying off about halfway through. I fully expect next week's issue to be pretty good.

Because he only moved half as fast... and ran out of web fluid... ah yes, web fluid... the cause of, and answer to, all of Spider-Man's problems...

ok I'll admit the writers seem good, but they've been hamstrung by some stupid mandate that spider man must be put at a disadvantage at the beginning of every story by running out of web fluid. then he has to spend the rest of the story complaining about how he's too poor too be able to buy the things he needs to make any more. and we all know from back in the ben rilliey(sp?) days that you can make web fluid for under thirty bucks so just how poor is peter?

You aren't seriously expecting a rational discussion about the current status quo of Spider-man with someone who has a "save the marriage - boycott spider-man" banner in his sig are you?

In so much as he appears to be buying and reading the comic.

Man, if you can't follow your own boycott, what hope is there in this world?

Got my issue today. It was good, just as I anticipated. Guggenheim's got a good handle on Spidey in my estimation.

I'm thinking about adding this into my pull, is the most recent issue good to jump in on, or should I try to get the whole BND run while it's still short?

you really should get the Slott/McNiven issues, since they are so good.

But if you don't want to, today's issue is actually the 2nd part of an arc, so you'd want to go back at least one issue anyway.

Agreed. Despite being Spanish myself, I don't care for Larroca's art. He should really go back to having his art inked and go away from that "digital coloring over pencil" thing. It doesn't suit him.

I haven't seen it. I hope so. He's good, it's just the coloring he's been using gives his art a fuzzy feel that is so wrong for his facial expressions. Maybe the sharp lines of Iron Man's armor will help him feel more solid, I don't know. Inking would certainly do the trick.

I've just read through the Slott singles and to be honest I'm not sure what to think about them. They're quite good, undoubtedly, and Mr Negative seems to be a well thought-out villain. I don't know, I think I ended with this nagging feeling that Slott was almost trying a little too hard? As if everything was 'turned up to 11', so to speak.

I think it's more of a side-effect of such a huge tonal shift in the book.

And probably of getting all the different writers in the same tone. That's gotta be hard to pull off, probably leads to everybody trying to hit the same notes a bit too hard for the first few issues until they get the feel for it. It's working nicely so far, though.

So I was just over at the Bendisboard ASM thread and someone there pointed out that the Sara Ehret who Spidey visits at the end of the issue looks an awful lot like one of the teases from the end of OMD.

The woman who says "I'm surprised you didn't think to ask about me, I'm another possibility yet to come."

I'll try and post the pics when I get home from work, but it seems like this Jackpot thing is a lot less simple than most of us assumed.

    He cannot write good comics.

Didn't mind the issue, but you could really tell the difference between his take on Spidey and Slott and Guggenheim's takes. There's a lot more consistency between the first two arcs than what we've seen so far of this one.

This issue felt a lot more like an old-school Spidey comic.
By old-school, I mean, Peter hasn't even started dating Gwen yet old.
It just didn't feel right when I read it after the last months' issues.

Got the new issue today. I dunno, I'm not feeling this arc as much as the first two. It doesn't quite fit in with the style of the others. Also, Councilman Hollister is being presented pretty similarly to a certain presidential nominee. It was almost weird reading the page where Hollister is giving his speech announcing his candidacy.
