Gah... okay, I will admit that, while I haven't been wowed by BND Spidey, I haven't actively hated it...

until this issue. This was just... it was just awful. The writing was atrocious... I think this Futurama quote sums it up best...

Robot Devil: This opera is as lousy as it is brilliant. You can't just have your characters announce how their feeling. That makes me feel angry!

Minus the brilliant part, of course.

Also, the new artist draws a weird Spider-Man head. I don't know if anybody else thought the same.

    But yes, absolutely terrible arc.

Newsarama's put up some stuff from Wizard World L.A.'s Spidey-panel.

    http://www.newsarama.com/WWLA/08/Marvel/spiderman.html

    Things to note:
-Wacker announced a new addition to the crop of Amazing Spider-Man writers - the now seemingly former DC exclusive writer Joe Kelly, who Wacker said is going to do at least two issues.

-Wacker said they'll be a "Brand New Day special" in a few months that'll flesh out some supporting character back-stories.

-Another audience member asked why Uncle Ben didn't come back from the dead in "One More Day," given the various things that happened in that series (like Harry Osborn coming back). The panel joked about the consequences of such an action, and Guggenheim said "We didn't bring anyone back from the dead” …. with Slott adding (and seemingly indicating everything isn’t what it seems in regards to Harry), "Keep reading."

-Slott announced the name of the story arc with Romita Jr. - "New Ways to Die." "It's going to have some big returns and some major Spider-Man villains," said Slott. "We've worked really hard to bring you guys all new villains, and now it's time to open up the toy chest." Slott said that in the first issue of the arc Norman Osborn will get permission to bring in the Thunderbolts to take on Spider-Man.

-A fan asked how Spider-Man fits in with New Avengers and Secret Invasion, and Wacker said they'll be a three issue series outside of ASM this summer that will deal with some of those issues and also feature Jackpot, written by Brian Reed.

Well I'm glad that there are now Fantastic Four, Spidey, and Runaways minis to help flesh out Secret Invasion since the regular titles aren't tying in. Goddammit.........that Thunderbolts hunt arc sounds cool. I think I want to buy it.....but my promise. Eh fuck it, I'm buying it.

Well it's something we've all wanted to see. Probably the only thing having kept Osborn from doing it so far is Stark.

It'll be interesting to see the Thunderbolts squad that ends up hunting Spidey considering the level of disarray the team is currently in.

I made a list of predictions to Lanz over AIM before I read the issue:
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:27:58 PM): lemme sum up it's inevitable story
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:28:02 PM): PETER PARKER HAS BAD LUCK
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:28:08 PM): HIS BOSS DOES NOT REMEMBER HIS NAME
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:28:14 PM): JACKPOTS TOTALLY NOT MJ
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:28:20 PM): (SHE TOTALLY S)
TMM's Totally Secret AIM (4:28:34 PM): SPIDER-MAN RUNS OUT OF WEB FLUID/HIS WEBSHOOTERS ARE DAMAGED

I don't HATE freak, but seeing the same group of symbols every other sentence makes me wonder if Gale knows how to write actual dialog or if that was to make it look like he was adding emotion.

It definitely was a subtext... I couldn't get a proper read on his emotions. I wish he would just announce them, and save me and the artist the trouble of trying to decipher them.

I will give them credit for treating us like we're smart though. Leaving it up to us to interpret through their actions what they are really feeling and in turn, emoting. I felt smrter after having read it.

Brand New Day and everything about it sucks hard. Back in Black was awsome, OMD seemed like a cool catalyst for another chapter in the spidey saga, but someone at marvel wanted too keep beating the dead horse that is the continuation of May Parker's involvement in the comics. It seems that the whole story took a giant leap backwards in time about twenty years, where Parker was searial dating and popping in corny one-liners in the dialouge boxes at least five times a page.

I'm rueing this story-arc very intensly, BND needs a retcon like Magic Johnson needs T-cells.

She could be in that many if she were dead through periodic quotes that Petey remembers at the appropriate time.

"Bake for 1 hour until crust is golden"
"You're right Aunt May, I can defeat this Venom army".

The point is she's served her purpose as being the spider-man/peter parker moral compass. Her time is done. The person who's supposed to take over that role once she's out of the picture is his wife, Mary-Jane.

And now he's being chased by civil servants who don't understand him, another goblin like figure, all the while being nagged by that old should-be-dead lady that's only there to perform motherly duties for the character. Why are they treading down already worn paths? Are they gearing the comic back towards teens or what? WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS TO MY BEUTIFUL COMIC?

because your "beutiful" comic has been average to terrible for the last 10-15 years, and now people are actually talking about it again. And many people (like myself) are loving it.

I started reading Amazing a couple months before Civil War started.

    Clone Saga was 94-97
    I was born in 90.

And I still have the last 4 issues of Clone Saga hanging around somewhere.
The last one was far better than the last two issues of Amazing.

Even though it killed both Urich-GG and Spider-Ben, Revelations was in no way bad. It was awesome. Hell, the months that followed up until the Scryers stuff were all awesome. Norman as a media darling, the return of Roderick Kingsley, all good stuff.

Then came total shit with the return of Aunt May, crazy God Norman and the reboot.

The whole thing just feels underwhelming. I mean, all that seems to be on the table now, post-OMD, is the following:

    1. "Oh, that darn Parker Luck, hyuk hyuk hyuk!" jokes.
    2. Aunt May and her wheatcakes are back! Yay?
    3. Harry is also back. Or maybe he's a demon. Or a skrull. Or a skrull demon. Or something.
    4. MJ is a superhero now.
    5. Some new villains have been introduced.

Is that it? All the rigamarole for just that? It just doesn't seem like much returned value for all the crap that was endured.
